Someone wants to hire Gardy.
After being able to reevaluate his last couple years.
(Compared to what's happened since)
Wow. Ok.
Can't help ya.

Jeff Gilbert @jefferygilbert
@karlhenk @JeffMossDSR I hope its true. I've been a Gardenhire fan for years. His teams always did the basics well.

This is what happens when you watch/focus on game 163 of the 2009 season.

Try watching 162 games of 11 regular seasons including all the games vs. the Yanks and all those playoff games.

Honest to God.......does the opposition believe that TR was a magician this offseason with acquisitions and that is why we are where we are?

Where would Rosario, Sano, Hicks, May and Buxton be if Gardy were still here........

First......we would rarely use defensive shifts.

We would still have Jordan Schafer on the roster. He would probably be our starting CF.

The Tigers may have their new manager picked out and it looks like that new manager may be Ron Gardenhire. The news comes via The Detroit Sports Rags Justin Spiro who cites a ‘source within the organization’ that Gardenhire to Detroit is ‘pretty much done’ and that the Tigers would ‘move quickly to secure their new manager at season’s end’
Here’s an excerpt from the DSR report: Recently, the Tigers quietly reached out to the former Minnesota Twins skipper to gauge his interest in the job. When their interest in him was quickly reciprocated, informal discussions began in earnest. Gardenhire is expected to sign a three- or four-year contract, with yet to be determined financial terms. The sides are in agreement that compensation will not be a point of dispute when formal negotiations take place. Take the DSR’s report for what you will but keep in mind they’ve been pretty accurate when it comes to these very early findings in the past.

Here is another interesting comment on the Gardy / Detroit rumors.....not a bad assessment.....

Twins fan here. Gardy should stabilize the Tigers, if this happens. And yes, the name is "Gardy." Get used to everybody being called something like "Verly," you're already used to "Miggy;" everybody's name will be shortened and end in "y." He's a really nice guy and his players love him.

On the other hand, he uses a pitching staff "by the book," by rote. He has no feel for when a guy has it or has lost it. If it's the end of the 6th, the starter is out, and here comes the designated 7th inning guy, then the 8th inning guy, then the closer. Doesn't matter if the starter has retired 12 straight and the 7th inning guy has blown up 3 games in a row.

Gardy loves "gritty guys who get after it and battle their tails off." Meaning, guys with no talent who play hard and keep their mouths shut. He was great with the young guys he helped develop in the minors when he first got the Twins job, but later he became impatient with youngsters and relied on has-been and never-were veterans who were predictable and easy to manage, even if they were awful. He likes to plug guys into set roles and leave them, even when it's clearly not working. "By the book," again, rather than by feel.

If you're lucky (and this happens), Gardy will be revitalized by a new gig. It would be great if there's a decent lowbrow bowling alley near the ballpark in Detroit; that will become his new office. But don't expect to ever beat the Yankees in a game that means anything.

If Dustin is correct and the Tigers are planning on slashing their payroll I guess the hiring would make sense. After all, who but Gardy would
rather manage the Puntos and Tyners of the world rather than the Cabreras and Verlanders.

Maybe Detroit could use TR.

And if they hire Gardy, they will have to hire Rick Anderson as a pitching coach.

Maybe he can coach Verlander to pitch to contact......take some velocity off of Verlander's fastball. It has been in decline....maybe Anderson can speed up the decline in his avg velocity and his upper velocity.

I hate to break it to Jeff Gilbert or whichever twit wrote that tweet...
It wont be long until you are wondering why a utility guy is your starting third baseman
It wont be long until you are wondering why a subpar shitty hitting slappy is batting second.
It wont be long until you are wondering why a pitcher is cruising and he is pulled anyway because...cookbook
It wont be long until you are wondering why if Miggy gets a day off at 1B his replacement is still batting third.
It wont be long until you are wondering why your team is carrying a third catcher.
It wont be long until you are wondering why your manager is hiding in the corner and peeing his pants when the Yankees come to town.
You will be flabbergasted if you make the playoffs but don't worry, it wont last long. It will be a first series exit at the best.

And there are several more.

Good luck with your years of suck.

Should have coaxed Leyland out of retirement.

That is an outstanding, honest synopsis.

Awesome take. Love it. Detroilet is nuts. Cross them off the list of AL Central teams the Twins will have to worry about. I wonder if Gardy can get his boy Nathan back for another year? They're perfect for each other. Both curl up in the fetal position at the sight of pinstripes.

Mets looking legit. Putting nails in the Washington Generals coffin.
Cespedes turning out to be one helluva pickup.

Making himself some money with this finish.

Interesting to see them improve, once David Wright returned to the lineup.
Doesn't always happen that way.
Some "stars" are easier to deal with in that regard.

Sending him packing in the deal to get Lester was a huge mistake for the A's last season and screwed up their team chemistry big time.

Than Billy sends Donaldson away.

So ultimately, both the Blue Jays and the Mets are huge winners in Billy Beane deals.

MDK -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (9/10/2015 12:08:23 PM)

My favorite NL team, the Pirates, continue to be tough. Aramis Ramirez was a good pickup for this club.

Liriano's line for the season:

GP GS CG SHO IP H R ER HR BB SO W L P/GS WHIP BAA ERA
27 27 0 0 164.2 132 64 60 13 63 178 10 7 96.9 1.18 .217 3.28

Liriano is another reason why I would say good luck to the Tigers if they hire Gardy (and Anderson)...they will need it.

Wouldn't Liriano look good if he were still pitching for the twins? 178 K's in 164 innings.

JA Happ is 5-1 on his NL return. Really struggled in the AL.

I really love Molitors demeanor lately, in these tight games.
Seems to have his shit together, even while others are losing theirs.
Of course he makes a questionable move now and then, he's a manager, that's their thing.
I already feel about three gazillion times more confident in him ...... than I did for the previous decade.

No question. I'm harder on him than I should be. He instills a sense of calm. Gardenhire instilled a sense of panic. Will I ever laugh when Detroit hires him.

Well said Black

That's what it is ... a sense of calm.

I mean, what can we see, that Molly hasn't already faced ... and ass-kicked before?
