I'd like to scream at the Twins for that one, but I have to admit I had given up on him (here) ... as well.
Not sure any change here would have resulted in his ahem, uhmmm, ahhh, "career turnaround" in Bahhhhston.

Have to wonder why no one asks him if it's worth shrinking your nuts or having testicular cancer to do that.

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (9/12/2015 9:43:09 PM)

He's "lovable" Papi.
More dirt on him than the worst offenders, yet he's "lovable" Papi, so they just say "it cant be!"

Todd M -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (9/12/2015 9:48:18 PM)

Pretty damn impressive what the Jays are doing.

I thought NY was going to lie down after that 6 run 2nd. Man that was some of the worst pitching and catching I've seen. NY wakes up...Jays say no...some teams would've let that get away from them.

Most attention I've payed to baseball in years. I don't think I could even name two players on the Tigers anymore. But the Jays run has been infectious...especially around here....

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (9/12/2015 9:51:10 PM)

Crazy support too.
Lots of fans making their presence felt in NY.
They are built like I've always wanted us to build a team.
When they are going good, no ones going to be able to out-slug them.
And they'll wear out a lot of people's pitching staffs, no matter how good they are (hear me, Royales?) [:D]

When they picked up Price and Tulo I predicted they would win the division. Scoring runs at record levels.

Pirates now only 2 games back of the Cards in the loss column after the Cards getting swept by the Reds in the double header.

Marcus Stroman coming back from injury is a huge boost for the Blue Jays.

Almost as big as Hughes coming back to the Twins....[&:]

And how in the world does Tulowitzki end up with a cracked shoulder blade. I saw the collision when it happened and thought at first, Tulo's ball drop when he went down to the ground was a kinda whew....we got the out.

The collision didn't seem to be that severe.

Big problem with Tulowitzki, is staying healthy and on the field.

Playing on metrodome cement turf didn't help him.

Amazing how quickly the Pirates have made ground up.
And speaking of amazin .... the Mets with their 7th straight win.
Suddenly have become a rolling juggernaut.

Ouch. Didn't they give up a ton for this guy? And will undoubtedly not re-sign him? Oh well. If it was a likable team I'd feel bad for them. But one postseason run and they carry themselves like they're the 1996-2001 Yankees.

NL is crazy

3 teams in the Central with 80 or more wins. PITT now within 4 1/2 of the Cardinals, who have 88 wins.

Cubs at 80 wins NINE game Wild Card lead for the last spot.

Just read an awesome article by CJ Nitkowski hi-lighting this problem. One of those three teams won't make it past the one game playoff, and that's a joke. This format is awful. The best teams don't make the playoffs. He talked about the 2012 Tigers had the 7th best record in the AL, but won a
bad division. He proposes eliminating divisions. I fully 100% agree.

Eliminate divisions. Top four teams from each league make playoffs. Balance the schedule so every team plays the same schedule. Eliminating interleage would add more intrigue to the World series and reignite the AL/NL rivalry. Who could be against this? Shouldn't we all want the best teams making the playoffs? The Twins embarassed themselves year after
year in the playoffs, while other teams sitting at home would have been far more competitive than our low talent scrappy bunch.

MLB would be against it.

Divisions add races and interest and excitement. If you eliminate them, races don't carry as much weight anymore.

I LOVE a one game playoff for wild cards. If you don't want to have your season hinge on one game. Win your division.

I think the one game playoff is a fraud. An entire 162 game season should not come down to one game.

I just think it's wrong the best teams don't make the playoffs. Like I said, the 2012 Tigers had the 7th best record in the AL, in addition to playing in a weaker division + unbalanced schedule = weaker schedule than teams in other divisions had. Same scenario with most of Gardy's division winners. TAINTED. It's a shame that money rules.

I remember A-Rod made a controversial comment one of those years saying his Texas team that wasn't making the playoffs was better than the Twins. We all bristled, but he was right.

The NFL doesn't get it either. That a 7-9 division winner can host a playoff game against a 12-4 team is nothing short of criminal. Although I was pretty tickled to see my most hated team, the Saints, get beat that year.

Any three game series that goes all three games comes down to one game.
Any five game series that goes all five, comes down to one game.
Any seven game series that goes all seven comes down to one game.

The postseason in baseball is already far too long. Extending it so that two teams that didn't win their divisions can have a three game series or more...is preposterous. Not to mention the disadvantage of all the division winners having to sit out for a week waiting for a wild card round.

A one game playoff also makes winning your division all that much more important.

The point of the two wild card teams it to get the best records of non division winning teams into the playoffs. If they want to play on they have to win.

Think of it as a game 7 in the first game.

Eerie, how similar the Yankee and Twins seasons have been to this point.

The G-man after his wild throw to first back in the 1984 season. Twins had a 10 to 0 lead and I think were leading or near the top in the West with the bunch of young guys who would win in 87. When the G man's quote appeared in SI, I knew that team would be fine.

The weren't in first but they had a 10 - 0 lead after 3 innings and lost 11-10. They were over 500 and it was late in Sept.

I had to go for a drive after the game and calm down.

Longest hardest most-painful game in my life, I truly believe.
Because it was one you could see coming.
Some started celebrating early ... I KNEW what was coming, and when it did actually happen, it was the ultimate nut-punch.

Fueled the hatred for Cleveland for awhile after that, so it all worked out for the best.

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (9/15/2015 6:36:06 PM)

That year was eerily reminiscent to this one.
Fresh young guys coming up that we had high hopes for ... unexpected success into September.
The rest is history. If that plays out again ... I likey.
