Agreed. If they can't trade him for prospects, just ride out the deal. Don't make things worse by taking on another bad contract.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (12/8/2015 9:46:19 AM)

The market is heating up. Dunno if Ryan can keep up

The Rockies have agreed to terms with a pair of veteran relievers on two-year contracts, the club announced. Both Jason Motte and Chad Qualls are headed to Colorado.

Motte will receive a $10MM guarantee over his two years, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports (Twitter links). And Qualls will take home a $6MM overall promise from Colorado, Rosenthal adds.

9:26am: Center fielder Jon Jay is going to San Diego in the deal, ESPN.com’s Keith Law reports on Twitter. Joel Sherman tweets that the deal is done.

9:20am: The Cardinals are closing in on a trade for Padres infielder Jedd Gyorko, Jon Morosi of FOX Sports reports on Twitter.

Good trade for the Cards.

Get rid of Nolasco, don't take on a shitty contract to do it. Get a bullpen arm for him.

Plouffe will be traded before ST.

They are playing this "we really don't want to trade him...really!" game to drive up the asking price. And every GM in the league knows it.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (12/8/2015 2:59:58 PM)

Reports are SD drawing major interest in James Shields. Which seems odd:he cleared waivers in Aug. when he could've been claimed for nothing

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (12/8/2015 3:57:08 PM)

In losing both Alex Gordon and Alex Rios to free agency the Royals now have two corner outfield spots to fill and general manager Dayton Moore indicated today that they plan to give Jarrod Dyson one of the starting jobs.

Dyson has been a semi-regular for the Royals since 2012, averaging 100 games and 271 plate appearances per season while hitting .260 with a .668 OPS. His hitting is well below par for a corner outfielder–he’s totaled just six homers in 443 games as a big leaguer–but Dyson has 40-steal speed and excellent range.

Dyson would allow the Royals to save money on one starting job and avoid making a multi-year commitment to a player who might end up blocking a prospect like Bubba Starling as soon as 2017. Also worth noting: Kansas City won the World Series with Rios posting a .640 OPS in right field, so the bar for Dyson to clear isn’t a high one.

Say no to James Shields

I see no benefit in getting rid of one bad contract and taking on another, even longer bad contract.

Yesterday the Royals signed Chris Young. He's so skinny he showers in the barrel of a .22.

Zobrist signs with the Cubs. This makes me kind of sick to my stomach. I don't like when players I like sign with teams I hate. Shouldn't be surprised....I'm sure Maddon loves him.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (12/8/2015 8:42:39 PM)

Arizona is getting serious about this competing thing

After more than a week of rampant speculation, the Shelby Miller blockbuster that many anticipated has arrived. The Braves on Tuesday reportedly agreed to send Miller and left-handed relief prospect Gabe Speier to the Diamondbacks in exchange for outfielder Ender Inciarter, right-handed pitching prospect Aaron Blair and shortstop prospect Dansby Swanson, the latter of whom was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 draft back in June.

The Yankees and Cubs have agreed to a trade that will send Starlin Castro to New York, pending medical reviews. The deal will also see right-hander Adam Warren and Brendan Ryan (listed as a player to be named later) heading to the Cubs.

Great move by the Cubs
Zobrist was the main reason for the Royales success, IMO.
Talk will always be about their pitching and D, but Zobrists timely hits put them over the top.

The Mets have reached agreement on a deal for Pirates second baseman Neil Walker, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports on Twitter. It is pending a review of medicals and “small other matters,” he adds. Lefty Jon Niese is heading to Pittsburgh in the deal, ESPN.com’s Buster Olney tweets.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Major League Baseball recommended teams have protective netting between the dugouts for any field-level seats within 70 feet of home plate.

The guidelines were announced Wednesday at the winter meetings following a season in which several fans were injured by foul balls, prompting MLB to study fan safety. Most teams are expected to expand their use of netting.

"It is important that fans have the option to sit behind protective netting or in other areas of the ballpark where foul balls and bats are less likely to enter," Commissioner Rob Manfred said in a statement. "This recommendation attempts to balance the need for an adequate number of seating options with our desire to preserve the interactive pre-game and in-game fan experience that often centers around the dugouts, where fans can catch foul balls, see their favorite players up close and, if they are lucky, catch a tossed ball or other souvenir. "

The recommendation also applies to spring training ballparks, many of them owned by municipalities.

Well, scratch off one area I will no longer sit.
Nothing worse than looking thru netting.
Screw that. Pay attention. Watch the game, and stop eating or texting or daydreaming.

Cant believe they so easily parted with Dansby Swanson

Detroit continues to re-tool

TRyan is simply a tool

The Tigers and Yankees have announced a trade that will send left-handed setup man Justin Wilson to Detroit in exchange for right-handed pitching prospects Luis Cessa and Chad Green.

They should put up the chicken wire that used to be up at hockey rinks in the olden days.
