Cuban slugger Jose Dariel Abreu has narrowed his list of possible destinations to the Astros, Red Sox, and White Sox, multiple industry sources tell Jesse Sanchez of MLB.com. The standout first baseman could sign within the next two weeks.

The Rangers, Giants, and Marlins were also showing strong interest in Abreu along the way but are no longer in the running.

Cuban first baseman Jose Dariel Abreu is "finalizing" a six-year, $68MM contract, likely with the White Sox, FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal tweets. Abreu is represented by Praver Shapiro Sports Management. The deal would be the largest contract ever for an international free agent. It would easily surpass the six-year, $42MM deal Yasiel Puig received from the Dodgers last June.

So disappointing. Not only does it appear we passed up on talent that would have cost us the one asset we have in abundance, but we've got to watch him God knows how many times a year play for our rival.

TR is a joke. This org. is a joke. And the joke is on us.

I might be able to improve my seats 2 years in a row!

6 years at less than 12 mill/year. Steal for a slugging first-baseman.

So pursuing a has-been MVP is more logical. At least he's a good guy.

TR needs to take a remedial math class.  Wasting $2 million per on 5 players is not better than getting value for a guy at $10 million.

Um, Morneau has leadership abilities.  You can't put a price tag on that.

Great Make Up.

# 1 on Twins FA list.

They need the bodies. Upper depth is horrible. Can't deal the priceless prospects for improvment.
Throw a lot of junk at a wall,and something will stick.

Tigers home white uniforms and Olde English "D" logo the best in baseball?  I think it probably is.

I had 4 hats I wore out as a kid:

Tigers (Olde English "D")
Astros (orange star and H)
Twins (M hat)
Boze's Bait Shop (Greenbush, MN)

Definitely top five, no doubt.

The first hat I remember regularly wearing, of all things, was a Copenhagen hat that my parents gave me.  [&:]

Twins GM Terry Ryan: "Disgusting."

Dave E -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (10/18/2013 2:51:34 PM)

Stupid signing.  We don't know this guy's grit level, for cripe's sake.

Dave E -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (10/19/2013 9:23:57 PM)

So, if I'm the Sox, I give up the grand slam here intentionally to kill this tigers rally. Z, you agree?

Dave E -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (10/19/2013 9:26:46 PM)

Tigers got lucky there that the ball stayed in the park. Martinez takes them out of the game if he homers there.

Stacey King -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (10/19/2013 11:16:53 PM)

Buchholz was okay tonight.

Twins drafted HS 1b slugger Henry Sanchez 6 picks before the Sox selected Buchholz, and 3 picks before the Sox took Jed Lowrie.

Sanchez I don't think made it past A ball.

Another Twin's scouting and drafting fiasco.

Sanchez never got past the MW League.

I wonder if the Cards will get all bent in the Series when some Sox player(s) celebrate HRs like Victorino did.

Trekgeekscott -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (10/21/2013 8:07:17 AM)

Really don't want to watch this world Series.

No interest in Cardinals or Red Sox winning another series.

Cardinals just won one in 2011 and outside of the Yankees have won more WS titles than any other team.
Red Sox are almost at Yankee level for hate of teams for me.

I was really hoping for As/Pirates and then Dodgers/Tigers.

Should have held off on extending Gardy.

I don't. “@MightyMpls: Det, Was, Cin all available jobs. I bet Gardy's feeling like an ass for renewing with the Twiners.”

OF course he doesn't. Gardy has the most secure job in MLB. Low expectations.

And the results are rarely, if ever, his fault.

He doesn't have to win.  The team can look like the bad news bears before Buttermaker tried to get sober.

Lose 291 games in three years and your whole staff is retained.

He gets paid millions to be an utter failure.  Why would he leave?  It's the best job in sports.

Tigers liked your idea so much they tried it.

Steve Lentz -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (10/21/2013 11:08:55 AM)

Leyland was always a favorite of mine.
Good manager and class guy.
He had the best team in baseball this year, but didn't finish the way he would've liked. Fielder was a no show and Cabrera was injured.

Zoilo -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (10/21/2013 11:12:25 AM)

Who did Leyland bring in to give up the grand slam? Bases loaded, elimination game, brings in who?
