Someone is floating rumors Scherzer will be trade bait this offseason, given that he's inching toward FA and Boras is the agent.

A night light this one isn't hurting his value.

If Hunter had made that catch, it would have been the greatest catch in MLB history. And he just missed it.

Choke job by the Tigers.

Choke job by the Tigers.

Should have wrapped up the series. Now they will lose it.

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (10/14/2013 8:24:14 AM)

I soooooooo wish Hunter would have made that catch.  Sounds like he's OK.  And even if he's not, he's gonna be out there playing.  While watching this postseason, I have gained even more respect for Hunter than I had before.  We really underestimated this guy when we were OK with him leaving.  Turns out he was worth every penny he's ever been paid.

Agree with your last 2 posts Matt.

The SAWX will win the series now. And THunter should have stayed a Twin. I didn't like his whole shtick during the flirtation w/Free Agency.

Pohlads should have kept the good times going by securing him and then thought about dealing Johan later instead of choking during the trade period.

Oh,yeah, TERRY RYAN was the GM when Hunter left. [X(]

Dave E -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (10/14/2013 9:19:54 AM)

That was an INSANE game. Wow.

Amazing -- the Detroit bullpen may well cost it a trip to the WS. How can a team be so good at putting together SP and position players, but fail so miserably with the bullpen? Even TR can put together a bullpen.

I love how Red Sox fans call ARod a cheater yet they all want David Ortiz to be their prom date.

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (10/14/2013 1:06:34 PM)

Another cool Red Sox fan.  What a loser.

http://www.kfan.com/articles/sports-top-stories-104670/watch-red-sox-fan-rips-home-11735578/

The fan who ripped a home run ball out of a woman's hands and threw it back onto the field allegedly spent Game 2 of the American League Championship Series uttering racist remarks, including a parting shot to an African-American man as he was ejected from Fenway Park: "Bye, Trayvon."

The man was not immediately identified, and stadium security declined to provide his name. But fans in Section 42 of the stadium confirmed that he directed multiple slurs at 25-year-old Angelo Sikoutris, aDetroit Tigers fan from Brooklyn, including a reference to Trayvon Martin, the Florida teenager whose shooting death sparked a national firestorm and prompted fierce debate about modern-day racism.

"He was talking all game," Sikoutris told Yahoo Sports from his seat in Row 1, right above the Tigers' bullpen, two innings after the man was escorted out by security after throwing back a home run hit by Detroit catcher Alex Avila.

Video of the man taking the ball from a woman sitting next to him and chucking it onto the field quickly went viral as Boston faced a five-run deficit. The Red Sox came back for a dramatic 6-5 victory to even the ALCS at one game apiece.

Sikoutris, who attended the game with his father, wore a Prince Fielder jersey, which prompted the man to allegedly call him "Prince Fielder's crackhead brother." In addition, Sikoutris said, the man yelled at another African-American Tigers fan walking through the section, saying: "Go back to the ghetto."

Another fan near the altercation, Dan Cook, confirmed Sikourtis' account, as did a woman who declined to provide her name.
Security led the man and a woman, who fans said attended the game with him in Row 5 of Section 42, out through the stadium's Gate C. On the way out, Sikoutris, who fans said had been level-headed dealing with the man, said: "Bye-bye."
The response from the man: "Bye, Trayvon."

Now the Cards are reacting to the "excessive" celebrations of the Dodgers and their fans.

Aww. Focus on the game. Don't be distracted. Be a robot and win. [;)]

Dave E -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (10/15/2013 9:43:31 AM)

What a game last night.  Puig is awesome -- he pimps what he thinks is a homer, and still makes it a standing triple.  Wow!  He's what makes baseball awesome.  If he were an NFL player, he would have been fined $100,000.

Serious question: if the Twins had the Dodgers' roster, does Puig make the post-season roster?

Puig is still in AAA or AA for disgusting behavior.

Agree.

That's a problem.  I had more fun watching that single game last night than I did watching the entire Twins season.

Market
Sosnick told MLBTR Josh Johnson loved playing for Blue Jays manager John Gibbons, and bought into the vision of GM Alex Anthopoulos.  The pitcher has interest in returning to the Jays.  If a reunion doesn't happen, pretty much any team could explore a deal, since the risk will be limited to one year.  The Cubs, Rays, Mets, Rangers, Pirates, Nationals, Twins, Indians, and Athletics are some teams that have shown a willingness in recent years to sign free agent starting pitcher projects.

Expected Contract
A one-year deal free of options is in the cards for Johnson, as he aims to rebuild value with a healthy 2014.  The gold standard contract for a pitcher coming off an injury is the one-year, $10MM deal Ben Sheets signed with the Athletics after missing all of 2009.  Though that contract is almost four years old, I see it as the ceiling for Johnson.  Ultimately, I predict a one-year, $8MM deal, with significant incentives in the $4-6MM range.

Yet if Wainwright strikes someone out with the bases loaded he likely pumps his fists and goes nut - pitchers are a bunch of whiney babies. [sm=cry2.gif]

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (10/15/2013 3:43:58 PM)

Verlander throws 8 pitches in 1-2-3 first. 26 in the second, walking Ortiz, fanning the next 3.

This is the double-standard in MLB i cannot stand. Pitchers can whoop it up fanning someone. Yet there is no retaliation for that??

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (10/15/2013 3:51:40 PM)

Just Detroit's luck. Delay.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (10/15/2013 4:39:56 PM)

Yahoo. Couldn't agree more, if baseball wants to click with younger fans.

The Cardinals just gave up a big hit. The last thing they should be worried about is whether or not Puig over-celebrated a big hit in a big game.
Sports are supposed to be fun and if baseball is going to compete for viewers with football and basketball, it needs more Yasiel Puigs, not fewer.
So let's hope Puig ignores the critics and continues to have fun.

Steve Lentz -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (10/15/2013 6:46:09 PM)

Another playoff game completely dominated by pitching. It's almost comical how pitching dominates these games.
You want to win playoff games, get pitching.

Oh man!  Check out the crowd behind him.  Been there!  But he's "a winner."  That's sooooo Punto.  One of the announcers got it right....he was dancing with the stars.  [&:][&:]

I was in tears laughing.  Oh man.  Between Punto, Puig, and the Rally Bear, the Dodgers are the most entertaining team I've seen in a while.
