Tough but fair take on Punto:

I was just checking out a Dodgers board from last night.  They're speculating that Punto is working as a spy for the Cardinals.

Airhead; was an airhead for the Twins too.
Only reason he stuck around was because he was Gardy's
2nd son!!

You would think so, right?

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (10/16/2013 5:07:52 PM)

Joe Kelly is mortal today. 4 runs, a couple of soloHRs, in 5IP

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (10/16/2013 7:26:47 PM)

2nd inning. Red Sox leadoff with a double. Nava bunts him over to 3rd. Good move?

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (10/16/2013 7:28:03 PM)

Nope. Now there are 2 outs and the runner is still on 3rd. If they score this inning, it's most likely no thanks to the bunt. Wild pitch or passed ball needed for the bunt to matter. What are the odds of that happening?

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (10/16/2013 7:31:12 PM)

Zero runs.

Very disappointed in John Farrell. I figured he was smarter than Gardy by default.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (10/16/2013 9:46:27 PM)

LOVE the Leyland move to get Austin Jackson down in the lineup.

Hunter
Miggy
Fielder
Victor

as the top 4.

Table setter?? They don't need no stinkin' table setter.[:D]

He certainly took a lot of criticism from the people paid to opine on it.

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (10/16/2013 10:45:27 PM)

Notice that both managers bunted a guy from 2nd to 3rd in this game. Neither time did it help them score a run. The Tigers eventually scored, but it was with a 2-out single, so the runner would have scored from 2nd base anyway. And if the bunter had been allowed to swing away, maybe they score multiple runs if he gets a hit or walks.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (10/17/2013 8:10:15 AM)

Dang money gets in the way. Really sucks doesn't it TRyan?

Cuban slugger Jose Dariel Abreu's name continues to generate buzz. The latest, courtesy of ESPN's Buster Olney, is that the Rangers, White Sox and Astros have emerged as the front-runners to sign the 26-year-old, and his price tag is expected to be around $70MM (Twitter link).

Against his beliefs and what he knows is right. Better to save the money and overpay a little for someone with a good make-up who might be the difference in whether you lose 92 games next year or whether you lost 99 (Corriea-type signing coming up this winter is very predictable.)

That is better, more wise, a more-respected way to do business rather then greatly overpaying someone who might actually be a long-term piece to a winning team.

That is the Terry Ryan m.o.

Then when asked about it roll out the ol' money constraints have never been a factor in my decisions, whenever I've gone to the owner salary expenditure is never an issue with them ... the same spiel he always gives...

then nothing ever changes. nothing is ever done differently.

cue up 190 losses the next two season's combined (2014-2015).

there is no way around it. Twins have had the worst starting staff for the last 3 seasons and there is no hope coming soon unless they do something. It is going to get worse.

Brad Radke is not walking through that door, Johan Santana is not walking through that door...

Things are probably happy happy in Twins-land...AS game is ours in 2014 and the national TV revenue check increase by 26M annually.

Who cares?

We are loyal around here. No scapegoats!

Actually, Johan could.
But he is an injured shell of his former self.

And would still be one of the better starters on the roster.

Bad managing.

Good managing by Leyland to have his best player batting second, however.

Quickly one of William's favorite players. Loves his enthusiasm. Even tho he wants the Cards to win, pulls for Puig.

Cuban slugger Jose Dariel Abreu has narrowed his list of possible destinations to the Astros, Red Sox, and White Sox, multiple industry sources tell Jesse Sanchez of MLB.com. The standout first baseman could sign within the next two weeks.

The Rangers, Giants, and Marlins were also showing strong interest in Abreu along the way but are no longer in the running.

Cuban first baseman Jose Dariel Abreu is "finalizing" a six-year, $68MM contract, likely with the White Sox, FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal tweets. Abreu is represented by Praver Shapiro Sports Management. The deal would be the largest contract ever for an international free agent. It would easily surpass the six-year, $42MM deal Yasiel Puig received from the Dodgers last June.

Sox making a big splash.

White Sox are going to replace their aging 1B with a young stud from Cuba.

We're going to fix our 1B problem by bringing back Justin Morneau....just watch.
