Darvish out with stress reaction in pitching elbow.

Man, the Twins missed out on that one

Thankfully

One good non-move. Agreed.

One of those guys that I wish the Pohlads would have burned their money on.

He never had any interest in coming here. He was just using us to leverage a better deal with the Cubs.

I'm glad he didn't come here.

Actually I was mocking you. [8|]

Not sure what's wrong with the quoting feature on this thread.

JT2 -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (8/22/2018 9:35:35 PM)

Bad game this afternoon, but I couldn't be more impressed with what the Athletics are doing this season.

Houston has the second best run differential in the league, yet Oakland is just one game back.

Legit shot at going from last to first. How do they do it?

Davis certainly isn't the Saber obp guy that Mauer is, but he sure hits a lot of balls over the fence.
Seems like a valuable tool to have if you are a baseball player.

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (8/23/2018 7:50:46 AM)

The A's just keep impressing.
That's the stuff I always see too, Pete
The AWESOME Astros yadda yadda yadda .... oh, and btw, the A's are basically at the same pace.
They try to run on the cheap, too, but the difference between them and the Twins, is that they're good at it.

They get today's baseball. HRs

and some decent pitching

The A's are sending out a lineup that has 7 or more guys with double digit HRs every game.

Lucroy says the other advantage is the Coliseum

"We have a built-in home-field advantage here, because it's a graveyard. So teams don't want to play here. It's true. I'm just telling you."

We make our opponents feel very good about themselves here at our house.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (8/23/2018 8:51:49 AM)

It's so weird that AUG 23, you face a team for the first time all season.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (8/23/2018 11:13:22 AM)

Saw a gif of this

Found the actual play from the World Series, Reds/A's

This is like Eddie Shore, old-time Hockey

Some of the Legendary names of my Yute.

Loved the "Swinging' A's", we had a poster in the "boys bedroom" of the house.

Reggie
Rudi
Geno Ten-ach-ee
Vida Blue
Blue Moon Odom
Bert Campaneris
Catfish
Holtzmann.

Amazing how much its changed Ed
That's why you were taught as an IFer ... NEVER hang on the bag.
And when you had to hang on the bag, your throw better be started, and it better be head-high.
Because YOU'RE going down, if not.

That's the crazy part of that.

End of the play

Fans booing
But that's it. No fight, no benches cleared.

Out at second on a force play.

As the announcer said that's how they play it in the World Series.

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (8/23/2018 11:20:24 AM)

Vida Blue was one of a kind.
Had some incredible years.

I was a huge Joe Rudi fan

Him and Reggie.

Crushed me when Rudi bailed to the Angels.

No worry about retaliation, etc ... get up and do it again
No going on the injury list, etc
We have some guys who would have had to retire after that hit

Or they'd whine to the league the baserunner should be suspended.

Could not get the guy out

Career .260s hitter

2 WS hit .333 and drove in 4 runs in each.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (8/23/2018 11:26:06 AM)

Rudi was part of the A's in 5 straight ALCS

Lost to Baltimore in 71, then 3 straight years of wins and WS titles, then lost to Boston

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (8/23/2018 11:27:51 AM)

In 1972 Regular season Joe Rudi's WAR was 6.1
In 1974, it was 4.7

Not bad.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (8/23/2018 11:29:00 AM)

Would love to find that rookie card
1967
Last year A's were in Kansas City

Loved those cards with little known facts

Joe Rudi was a "wrestling champ" in High School
