Agree with both of those posts.  Very solid.

The arguments I'm continually seeing on Morris are bordering on the silly.  Apparently, "most Game 1s started" is a great way of analyzing a pitcher's entire career.

Morris was good.  Very good.  Scrappy.  But just like Dave Stieb who was about as good in the same era...he's not HOF worthy.  I truly believe he's stayed on the ballot this long because of his WS heroics more than anything.

But nobody should go in on the strength of one game...

Here's the writer's ballot. Need to read the article for his reasoning. Looks good, but I'm not sure about Mussina at first glance. I would probably replace Mussina with Larry Walker or Jeff Kent. I guess I'm on board with Bonds and Clemens, but I know they will not be getting enough votes anytime soon.

Jeff Bagwell
Craig Biggio
Barry Bonds
Roger Clemens
Tom Glavine
Greg Maddux
Mike Mussina
Mike Piazza
Tim Raines
Frank Thomas

On this list, I would only question Mussina.  Hall of very good at most...not HOF.   But I am sure that his inclusion has as much to do with what I like to call the "Yankee/Red Sox" effect.  what I mean is, he played for the Yankees so he got lots of extra media attention that pitchers with similar numbers playing in say...Kansas City would have gotten.

All others, by their level of play and careers belong in the HOF imho.

I'll be very curious to see what kind of support Mussina gets.

Depends on How many voters think Kenny Loggins should be in, too. [:D]

Will the voters enter the Danger Zone?!

For the First Time, perhaps, he'll Meet Me Halfway and tell me I'm Allright

Then I will be able to Celebrate Me Home.

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (12/5/2013 3:32:16 PM)

If you read his explanation as to why he included Mussina, I don't think he even believes Mussina is the best choice. He wants to keep him on the ballot and evaluate later. However, is there really reason to believe he'll receive less than 5% of the vote? And I guess you can definitely question a person that is voting for someone just because they don't want that player to fall off the ballot.

Cano is going to be a Mariner.  Fantastic player, but $230-240 million?!  Wow.

What happened to his demands for $301 million?

I really don't understand the Yankees. I think I would keep Granderson and Cano then Elsbury and Kelly Johnson.

Jim, agree, however, when you look at Granderson getting 60M and Cano getting 240M, the Yankees would have had to pay the same (300M totla), most likely, and even for the Yankees, it was way more than they wanted or could afford to pay them!

Was just checking out his stats.  His best years were awesome, but not quite as amazing as I thought -- nothing to compare to Pedro's best years (which is a absurdly high bar, admittedly).

Jim Frenette -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (12/9/2013 10:31:36 AM)

LaRusa, Torre and Cox all elected to the HOF and all deserve it.

Agree, I'm fine with all those.  Marvin Miller should have made it as well, though.

I disagree on Miller. He's a union guy, not baseball man
