Agree with parts of all these posts

Idiotic to play 162, if "just getting in" is the goal

Make the playoffs the be-all then.
But no way you play 162, to only eliminate a couple.
Talk about meaningless chunks of the season
That would be pitiful

At least with the NHL, the much-maligned NHL, the playoffs become a season of its own, often separating the real teams from the fake ones.
Months of hell in a cell. You survive it, you earned it.

Cheater's payback.

Now if only someone could get the Asterisks out of the playoffs.

Gibby 4 hit them last night. [:-]

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (9/17/2020 9:56:27 PM)

The Yankees hit five home runs in an inning for the first time in their history.

Brett Gardner, DJ LeMahieu and Luke Voit homered on consecutive pitches in the fourth inning from Toronto's Chase Anderson on Thursday night. Voit's home run was his major league-leading 20th.

Aaron Hicks struck out, and Giancarlo Stanton and Gleyber Torres followed with home runs that gave the Yankees a 9-2 lead and chased Anderson. They went on to beat the Blue Jays 10-7.

Bad News for Asterisks

Houston Astros right-hander Justin Verlander is set to undergo Tommy John surgery, he said in an Instagram post Saturday.

Verlander hasn't pitched since his season debut on July 24. He said in a video that he "felt something in my elbow" during a simulated game this week and that after consulting with doctors, Tommy John surgery was determined to be the best option.

Angels first baseman Albert Pujols blasted his 660th career home run on Sunday against the Rockies, tying Willie Mays for fifth on the all-time list.

Update: 662 now. Is he going to play another season or two. Isn't he 50 right now?

I'm going to post it here and in the prediction thread. Acuna is being walked multiple times a game and stealing a base about half the time. Freddie Freeman batting right behind him is a great RBI guy. Acuna has scored 15 times in the last 7 games. He currently stands at 31 games played 31 runs scored. My prediction: He will finish this season with more runs scored than games played.

Update 40 games 39 runs. He needs to pick it up this final week.

yep. Twins still have the slightest of chances at winning the division. I hope we play the Skankees in this year playoffs. We have to end that freaking streak.

Was surprised he was still pretty good last time we saw him
I expected the "scout blues" were gonna shut him down much earlier

Now we see, if he's the real deal.
Some rebound and live long careers
Some never rebound

Among those that rarely struggle for a full season or dip that low....

Trout (still only 29)
Harper (still only 27)
Betts (also only 27)
Judge (has to be healthy more)

Was going to put Bellinger in this list, but he's only hitting .231 this year

Very few this doesn't happen to. Those are the uber stars I guess.

kgdabom -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (9/22/2020 5:58:39 PM)

Scoreboard watching. Skankees up 2-0 on Toronto
Indians up 1-0 on the White Sux.

With Belinger and Yelich this is a very strange year. Many stars are struggling. We'll see if they get back to their normal dominance next year.

How is Dick Allen not in the HOF? I was looking at his vote percentages while on the ballot and they are laughably low. He led the league in OPS 4 times. He led the league in SLG 3 times and OBP 2 times. He eclipsed 1.000 OPS in 3 different seasons, and finished with a career OPS of .912.

It appears he was a below average fielder no matter where the Phillies put him. Was he bad enough that it should keep him out of the HOF? He certainly couldn't be worse than David Ortiz, Edgar Martinez or Frank Thomas defensively. Comparable to Harmon maybe?

Plus, he used to regularly smoke heaters in the dugout during games.
Legend.

Dick Allen called this the greatest baseball card of all-time.
