$$$$$

MLB/Turner Sports deal: seven years at $535 million per year through '28. That's a 65% increase over what Turner had been paying.

One of the few Royales I respect is hangin em up

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Kansas City Royals outfielder Alex Gordon, a former first-round pick whose roller-coaster career took him from near bust to All-Star and Gold Glove winner, announced Thursday he will retire after the season.
Gordon was the second overall pick in the 2005 first-year player draft following a standout career at Nebraska, where he won the Golden Spikes Award as the best amateur in baseball. He made his big league debut two years later and, after a few years shuttling back and forth to the minors, moved from third base to the outfield and found success.
He wound up playing his entire 14-year career in Kansas City, joining only George Brett and Frank White as position players with that much longevity with the franchise. He heads into a weekend four-game series against Detroit with the third-most walks (682), fourth-most homers (190), fifth-most doubles (357) and sixth-most games played (1,749) in club history.

He was all business and consistently hurt the Twins. He hit better against us than anyone else.
I respected him. Being from Nebraska helped too!

I remember a couple smart dudes pining for him when the Royals wanted to cut him loose.
And if I'm not mistaken, you and I did, too.

You guys aren't real Gordon/Royals fans.

kgdabom -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (9/25/2020 12:08:30 PM)

Three days left in the season for most teams at least.
Cubs have Darvish going against Cease of the W Sux today. Darvish has faded a bit recently so this game is anybody's. A Cubs Victory would put the Twins in great shape to win the division.
Ronald Acuna Jr. has played 44 games and scored 43 runs. Assuming he plays all three remaining games he will need to score 5 times for my more runs than games prediction to be correct.

kgdabom -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (9/25/2020 9:05:11 PM)

Acuna 2 runs so far today. Back to exactly a run per game.

kgdabom -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (9/26/2020 7:58:49 AM)

Holy shit. Acuna hit a 495 foot homer in that game and scored three times. He has one more run than games played with two games remaining.

RONALD ACUNA
OF, ATLANTA BRAVES

Ronald Acuna Jr. went 1-for-4 with a solo homer, a walk and three run scored in Friday’s extra-inning win over the Red Sox.
Acuna led off the bottom of the first inning with a 495-foot blast to left-center field off Chris Mazza, the longest home run so far this season. The 22-year-old has hit safely in six straight games and has mashed nine homers in just 22 games this month.

Miami outfielder Starling Marte and right-hander Jose Urena left Sundays' regular-season finale against the New York Yankees after getting hurt in the early innings.

Marte was hit on the front of his helmet by Clarke Schmidt's 94 mph fastball in the second inning. The pitch knocked off the helmet. Marte stayed down for a few minutes and was replaced by Lewis Brinson.

Urena, a candidate for Miami's postseason bullpen, was hit on his pitching hand by a 103.9 mph line drive from AL batting leader DJ LeMahieu with one out in the third. Urena crumpled over in pain and stayed down in front of the mound before exiting the game. He was replaced by Daniel Castano.

After the game, a 5-0 Miami win, the Marlins said Urena suffered a nondisplaced ulna fracture in his right forearm, and Marte had a bruised left ear.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (9/27/2020 10:02:51 PM)

Nationals outfielder Juan Soto became the National League's youngest batting champion on Sunday, as Washington closed out the season with a 15-5 victory over the New York Mets.

Soto walked and singled before being lifted for a pinch hitter in the third inning, elevating his average to .351 and sealing the NL lead in the category during this pandemic-shortened 60-game season.

The 21-year-old Soto surpassed Brooklyn's Pete Reiser as the youngest ever to take a batting crown. Reiser was 22 when he ended the 1941 season hitting a league-leading .343.

"For me, it doesn't matter the age," Soto said with a smile when informed of the feat's historical significance. "If you deserve it, you deserve it."

Soto held off Atlanta teammates Freddie Freeman (.341) and Marcell Ozuna (.338) and also finished 2020 with the major league lead in on-base percentage (.490) and slugging percentage (.695).

Baseball is THE dumbest when it comes to getting the games out there

For those wondering, the MLB postseason games on ESPN networks will not be available via http://MLB.TV.
All games telecast on FOX, TBS and MLB Network will be to subs who are authenticated subscribers to the applicable network through a participating pay TV provider.

@mlb: Yup! Checks out!

Guess we didn’t win enough games this year to earn the right for our family to watch us play. Sorry Mom and Dad!

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (9/30/2020 11:08:51 AM)

San Diego Padres right-hander Mike Clevinger is unlikely to pitch in the wild-card round and could miss the remainder of the postseason with an arm injury that did not resolve during a bullpen session Tuesday, sources told ESPN.

The Padres acquired Clevinger, 29, from the Cleveland Indians at the trade deadline and expected him to lead their playoff rotation. Clevinger left a Sept. 23 start after one inning, and while he has attempted to throw in the week since, concerns about his short- and long-term health persist, according to sources.
