According to sources, Phillies will name Sam Fuld general manager. Former big leaguer has been in front office for several years with Phillies.

Former Twins OF

Hmm
Pretty young eh?
Doesn't seem that long ago he played

yeah, he's 39

and

Good Luck Philly!

Highly-respected Terry Ryan, who was the #Twins GM for 19 years, will now have a much larger voice in the #Phillies organization.
Jorge Velandia is promoted to #Phillies assistant GM and Terry Ryan is special assistant to the GM.

First baseman Josh Bell has been traded from the Pittsburgh Pirates to the Washington Nationals, it was announced Thursday.

In return, the Pirates will get young pitchers Wil Crowe, who made his debut with the Nationals in 2020, and Eddy Yean.

I've been watching Tom Seaver's 300th win this afternoon. Harold Baines has been playing a wonderful RF. He was much more than just a DH.

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (12/26/2020 7:20:56 PM)

Rank the 6 HOFers that passed away in 2020.

Here's my ranking.

1. Joe Morgan
2. Tom Seaver
3. Al Kaline
4. Bob Gibson
5. Whitey Ford
6. Lou Brock (questionable HOFer, by many accounts one of the worst defensive outfielders in history)

RIP. Another one gone. This is sad. Slide him in between Kaline and Gibson on my list.

remember getting cable tv in the early 80's and watching tons of Brave games on WTBS, Niekro is one of many names that stirs those memories. Would have guessed him to be older, he looked like he was 60 when he pitched for the Braves

Same
Watched those damn Braves games every afternoon
They were "americas Team" [&o]

I hated them and pulled against them every day, except when Phil was tossing
he was fun to watch

MLB had some awesome classics on this weekend
REAL ones

Left-hander Blake Snell, the 2018 American League Cy Young Award winner and one of the sport's premier arms, is headed to San Diego in a five-player blockbuster, according to sources. Prospects Luis Patiño, Blake Hunt and Cole Wilcox along with catcher Francisco Mejía are headed to Tampa Bay in return. Neither team has confirmed the deal, which is pending physicals.

Padres get: LHP Blake Snell
Rays get: RHP Luis Patiño, RHP Cole Wilcox, C Blake Hunt, C Francisco Mejía

Pads s#3/#7/#14/#15 prospects

OMG the Twins would NEVER give up that much

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (12/28/2020 8:13:11 AM)

San Diego must be one of those teams we cannot compete against for guys
That list gets longer all the time

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (12/28/2020 8:16:00 AM)

In 1979, Niekro had a particularly unique season. He led the National League in wins with 21 while leading the Majors in losses with 20. He’s the only pitcher in the modern era to lead his league in both wins and losses in the same season, according to Elias. And he did it for the last-place Braves, making him one of nine pitchers to win 20 games for a last-place team (division since 1969, league prior to that) in the modern era.

He made 44 starts that year, the most in any season of his career, and threw a career-best 23 complete games. His 1979 campaign was the last time a pitcher made more than 40 starts in a season.

Yep

Traded coins for Clevinger

He needs TJ

Eh, fine, trade some more Coins for another starter

They play in the same division as the World Champs

Guess they want to actually try and dethrone them.

Twins may get the opp in 22 to dethrone the Sox as Kings of the Division
WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

I got into a huge argument with Dustin yesterday. I say Niekro had a better career than Gibson. He adamantly disagrees. In fact, he ranks Gibson #1 on my 2020 HOF death list ahead of both Morgan and Seaver. I see absolutely no argument for Gibson over either of those guys. I'll at least listen to an argument of placing Gibson above Niekro.

Let's say you have 40 starts in a season from Gibson and Niekro.

When Gibson starts, you win 32 of those games, because he was more "dominant" than Niekro. When Niekro starts, you win 30 of those games. Gibson does it for about a 10-year peak. Niekro does it for more like 20 years. Give me Niekro's career.

The argument was Gibson vs Neikro. Not Seaver and Morgan. Some day you will realize how much smarter you are when you agree with me.
