How juiced are these balls?

David Levine -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (7/17/2023 8:24:41 PM)

Aaron Gleeman@AaronGleeman

Josh Donaldson has a torn right calf and could miss the rest of the season.

He would finish his Yankees career having hit just .207/.293/.385 while missing 159 of a possible 324 games and getting paid $51.5 million.

Donaldson will be a 38-year-old free agent this offseason.

The oft injured old man is a shell of what he was.

The writing is on the wall for Josh....time to hang them up.

Love the Dodgers' Yamamoto signing. If, big if, they can stay healthy then later in the season the Dodgers can wheel out:
- Yamamoto
- Glasnow
- Buehler
- Bobby Miller
- Sheehan, Joe Kelly, etc

Hope they can add more talent. They need to have ace power to deal with any short playoff series.

Add Ohtani and Dustin May in 2025, but I don't know how effective they will be.

A few years ago they were absolutely stacked with Buehler, Kershaw, Bauer, Urias, and May but the wheels totally fell off, similar to last year.

And Dylabn Cease is no longer in the AL Central.

Padres acquire Dylan Cease.

The Dylan Cease saga has come to an end. The Padres announced the acquisition of the right-hander from the White Sox for four players: prospects Drew Thorpe, Jairo Iriarte and Samuel Zavala and big league reliever Steven Wilson.

The big question now is who will the Yankees now panic pay for due to the Gerrit Cole situation? Snell or Montgomery?

I keep sitting here thinking, the Twins have an opportunity for a short time addition to their rotation, Just like Correa a few years ago, they could sign one of those guys to a short term deal with opt outs...the Pohlads just have to act against established norms and pony up when they said they were done ponying up.

For the first time in history, an MLB game will be played in Alabama. Watch the Giants and Cardinals tonight.

So let's talk playoffs.

Anyone have any predictions, or hopes for this year's playoffs?

I'll start. I wont predict anything because I am terrible at it..

AL

Teams in Detroit, Houston, Baltimore, Kansas City, NY Yankees, Cleveland.

NL NY Mets, Brewers, Braves, Padres, Phillies, Dodgers.

Teams I would love to see eliminated post haste: Yankees, Dodgers, Phillies, Braves, Astros.

If my team is not in the postseason (way to collapse your ass off Twins) Then I generally want teams that haven't ever won a WS, or the longest suffering to win it all.

That means In the AL, I will be rooting for Cleveland first (last won in like 1948). Baltimore second (last won 83), then Detroit (Last won 84).

In the NL that means I will be rooting for Milwaukee, and San Diego (even here. don't care which neither has ever won a WS) Then Mets (last won 86)

What this means..

The Yankees and Dodgers will meet in the WS, MLB and the networks will be walking around on cloud nine while the rest of mlb will not give a flying rats ass.

I think I understand your formula. Thanks for that.

My 1st choice this year - Royals.

2nd choice would be Cleveland. Then probably the Astros. Detroit would be next in the AL. Don't care for the O's or the Yanks.

NL, not much preference. But I'll try ranking my preferences anyway.

1. Brewers
2. Padres
3. Mets
4. Dodgers
5. Braves
6. Phillies

I'll be rooting for the AL team in the WS unless it's the Yankees. If it's the Orioles, I would root for the NL unless they are facing the Braves or Phillies.

Bibee pulled after 4-2/3 IP and 76 pitches. Zero runs allowed. I don't get it.

Bob Nightengale
@BNightengale

The NLCS Game 1 between the New York Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers averaged 8.264 million viewers, the highest TV ratings for Game 1 of an LCS since the Angels and Yankees in 2009.

Trekgeekscott -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (10/16/2024 9:07:16 AM)

A friend of mine asked me why I am so bitter about the Yankees probably going to the World Series again. Here was my response

I can hate the yankees if I want. They've won 27 world series. Compare that to the Rockies, Mariners, Padres. I don't want to see them win another title in my lifetime. I would rather see the Guardians who haven't won since 1948, Pirates 1979, Orioles 1983, Tigers 1984, Mets 1986, etc win it. There are 29 other teams in Major League Baseball and the media and MLB only seem interested in sending just a few to the championship. I resent that about baseball. They FEAR a Milwaukee Cleveland world series. The league is set up to favor the big money teams. It's an unfair playing field. There is no competitive balance. Then there is the air of entitlement with regards to the Yankees..."they haven't won it all since 2009". Like it's their birthright to win it every year. What about my Twins who haven't won it since 1991, or the Mariners who've never even been to a World Series? I loved last year because Texas had never won one. I want to see all of baseball be able to compete nearly every year. I don't see that now when the expectation is the playoffs WILL include the Mets, Yankees, Dodgers, Astros, Braves etc... MLB is dying a slow death and this is a contributing factor. The NFL, NBA and even NHL have figured out you need all fan bases to think they have a chance for the league to succeed. MLB just wants a couple fanbases to be happy. they rest can suck it. They are killing my sport. having the same teams in the playoffs every year is NOT a good thing for the sport in general.

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (10/16/2024 9:43:40 AM)

Kansas City lost 106 games last year and made the playoffs this year. Nobody really saw that coming.

So are you saying the White Sox got a good shot at the postseason in 2025?

Or that Kansas City can maintain that success?

Or that Detroit wont take a huge step backwards?

Or that the Dodgers, Mets, Braves, Astros AND Yankees WONT make the playoffs?

A occasional hiccup can happen. Smaller market teams can sometimes wiggle their way in, but in the end who's remaining.

In all likelihood it'll be Yankees/Dodgers in the WS, and MLB couldn't be happier.

Finally someone with a memorable stance. Flashback to the 80s. And boom! Noel!!!!

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (10/17/2024 7:49:00 PM)

It's so telling that they don't put a runner on 2nd in the postseason. MLB knows it's a garbage stunt. But they go ahead and do it for 6 months anyway.

What the hell was that?!?!? 100% safe, but didn't reverse the call. Replay rules are so broken.

Rooting hard for the Dodgers to complete the sweep tonight.
