Honestly, you can't make up these posts.

Seriously, I often wonder why any of you follow the Twins. What's the upside for you guys? You hate everything about baseball, and in particular, everything about the Twins, from the owners down to the players. Why do you waste your time on something so unpleasant?

Because we love what the Twins used to be before the entire philosophy of the organization changed in the mid 90's, and the "Twins way"
emerged. This organization has a terrible owner, and Ryan is his right hand man, whose sole purpose is to make the owner as much money
as he can. You can almost trace the demise of this franchise to the winter of 91-92 when Pohlad lowballed Jack Morris after he almost singlehandedly
won the World Series. It's been all down hill ever since. I don't even count Gardy's cute little run of mediocrity from 2002-2010 as success.
That was nothing but mediocrity and they proved it in the playoffs.

http://tracking.si.com/2014/02/17/matt-garza-passed-angels-vacation/?eref=sihp

Garza received an offer from the Angels in December worth $52 million over four years, but he passed because he was in Turks and Caicos on an anniversary trip and did not want to be distracted by baseball.

“I was on vacation with my wife, and I didn’t want to be disturbed,” Garza said. “It was like, ‘Here it is, we’ll pull it in a certain amount of hours.’ I didn’t have a chance to respond, so I just said, ‘Whatever. It is what it is.’”

The music at the ballpark is ridiculous. It's so damn loud and such a distraction. Give me an organ over that piped in nonsense. Screw the Kiss Cams and all the other gimmicky BS. Matter of fact, there are too many damn distractions and distracted people at the ballpark. People noodling around with handheld devices nonstop and what have you. It is thoroughly annoying. What ever happened to.....
"I'll be at the ballgame today, catch you later"??
I guess that mentality is more of a societal thing but it certainly effects my time at the ballpark.

The games are also far too long. So many meaningless substitutions because the game has become over specialized. Back in the day you could sit through a game watching it on the TV without it eating up almost four hours of your life. Interleague play is a huge pain in the ass as well.

There are plenty of things that have diminished the entertainment value of the product.

Again, agree 100%.  And the younger people cannot argue this because they have nothing to compare it to.  They weren't around in the 80's, let alone the 60's and 70's.

Uh...I wasn't around in the 80s?

Seriously Dave, you have to admit the average Twins fan is a baseball imbecile. Given a 10 question test of the most basic baseball terms, definitions, and strategy and I bet 80% of fans cannot get more than five answers correct.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (2/18/2014 6:05:53 AM)

Ubaldo Jimenez signs w/BALT. Guess the draft pick wasn't that important to them.

I do agree that our long-time organist for Twins games needs to be replaced, or required to change her selections of things to play at Twins games....same ole, same ole, same ole....you can almost guess what she will play next.....need some new blood and songs from our organist, and it is my understanding, that she has been hanging on for years......just like our coaching staffs!! She must be related to Carl!!

psssst Pohlad family: Your team isn't one of them. The franchise will be an also ran for the 4th straight year. Had enough yet?

Black 47 -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (2/18/2014 12:04:36 PM)

But once they get Buxton, Sano, Arcia, Rosario, Hicks, and Pinto hitting the ball to the opposite field, they should be darn near .500 in a couple years.

Dave E -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (2/18/2014 12:26:17 PM)

Don't think Ive seen any comments on Ubaldo's 4/$48 contract.

I didn't mind TR's pitching moves at the beginning of FA -- in a vacuum, they seemed decent, if not mind-blowing -- but now with Garza and Ubaldo both going for the same money as Nolasco, the Huhges/Pelfrey signings are looking worse and worse. If you wanted Nolasco, fine -- but if you could have had one of Garza/Ubaldo/maybe Santana for not much more than you spent on Hughes/Pelfrey? Man, you better hope one of those two hits big money for you, because the evidence is piling up that you misread the market.

TJSweens -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (2/18/2014 12:33:12 PM)

As I have said over and over; it isn't an unwillingness to spend that's killing us. It's spending money in the stupidest way possible.

Dave E -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (2/18/2014 12:41:33 PM)

Yep. Wasted resources.

All comes down to draft picks. Twins went with guys that wouldnt' cost them picks.

Foolishly. Ubaldo/Garza >>>>>>>>>>>>>>Nolasco/Hughes/Pelfrey

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (2/18/2014 12:45:17 PM)

IF the Twins were actually drafting well, then that would have been a concern, giving up a pick. Given their track record of the past multiple years, what would
be the difference?

Dave E -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (2/18/2014 12:45:49 PM)

Even so, you could have gone Garza/Nolasco -- I don't Garza had a draft pick attached b/c of the trade.

TJSweens -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (2/18/2014 12:46:47 PM)

Not to mention Garza would not have cost them a pick, which makes it even dumber.

Ok, so what was the concern? Attitude? His shoulder? Both?

MIL put some language in dealing with innings. Must be some lingering doubts.

TJSweens -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (2/18/2014 12:59:25 PM)

They didn't want to commit to 4 years.

Best I coulid tell from Doogie, they didn't want to go four years b/c of the arm. Who knows.

Beyond the cost of the contract, signing a free agent like Stephen Drew or Ubaldo Jimenez would cost the Twins a draft pick and reduce the available money to sign draft selections.

Dave E -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (2/18/2014 2:33:12 PM)

I do not understand why the Mariners hired the failed Lloyd McClendon for a manager, but I like that fact he's not afraid to take shots at the Yankees. Beats peeing your pants and signaling to your team you have no chance of beating them.

Steve Lentz -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (2/20/2014 10:47:49 AM)

Cuddy uses the whole field and hits with power," Weiss said. "He uses the whole field and is just a professional hitter that's dangerous. With the pieces we have or that we potentially have in our lineup, we can afford to move Cuddy up to that spot. You've got some power throughout.[sm=scratch.gif]

Homer Bailey gets a SIX YEAR deal.
Some thought he'd be in MN on sign and trade deal.
No. Way.

Harrison having MRI on his back. TX needs pitching.

I know of a team that has an excess of starters [;)]

Not GOOD starters, mind you.

Dave E -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (2/20/2014 11:46:14 AM)

There's one of two potential FA aces for next year off the board.

Texas extends Ronnie Wash thru 2015.
Good move.
