Age discrimination. Most people 35+ would prefer the old-school voting. Over 50? Sorry, hardly any of them are gonna pull out their smartphone to vote for the all-star game.

I'm not exactly heartbroken over the Colabello aspect of it, but this is dead on. MLB really is archaic. I can't even fathom submitting a paper ballot in just about any walk of life other than an election this day and age.

No reason they can't have an up to date smart phone option. That's how I would guess most ballots would be submitted now anyway. While you're at the game "Go vote now on your MLB app".

They can do both. Why do they have to be mutually exclusive? Also, you'd be surprised at the data. Smartphones are becoming pretty universal now for even 50's or so.

Gomez robbed another HR from Joey Votto last night.
That's six in two years for GoGo
No other player has had two in that time.

djskillz -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (5/4/2014 7:42:43 PM)

As athletic as any player in the game.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (5/5/2014 4:10:22 PM)

Their owner may be an arse, but the Marlins bounce back as quick as any team that re-loads

Biggest Riser: Marlins. No division is tighter right now than the NL East, with all five teams at .500 or better, and few teams are hotter than the Miami Marlins. The Fish wrapped up a 5-1 week that included a three-game sweep of division-leading Atlanta by taking two of three from the Dodgers. That series ended on a walk-off win Sunday that featured two Giancarlo Stanton blasts; the 24-year-old slugger is now hitting an eye-popping .285/.362/.602 with an NL-best 10 homers and a major-league best 36 RBI. That Miami's hot week came at home is no surprise; the Marlins are now 14-5 at home and just 2-10 on the road. Luckily for them, they'll stay in Miami to open a three-game series against the Mets before leaving for a long West Coast road trip.

It's crazy how they keep doing this
From God-awful to relevant .... Faster than anyone, and more times than anyone.

djskillz -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (5/5/2014 4:47:16 PM)

Helps having the best pitcher on the planet on your team. Man, I'd kill for Fernandez. Literally.

Stacey King -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (5/7/2014 4:44:35 PM)

Rangers purchased the contract of RHP Scott Baker from Triple-A Round Rock. Baker had a 3.32 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and 30/11 K/BB ratio in 38 innings (six starts) this season at Round Rock. He will pitch out of the Rangers' bullpen initially but could be in line for a spot start down the road.

djskillz -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (5/7/2014 6:14:44 PM)

Gotta love Baker. One of the best pitchers in Twins' history.

twinsfan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (5/7/2014 6:15:47 PM)

I think he'll be great once he gets into the rotation.

Sizemore early leader for comeback player of the year.
Oh, wait ... he's soon to be injured I keep hearing. [&o]
Good teams don't care, its a chance worth taking for that kind of money.

BOSTON -- Carlton Fisk cleared the Green Monster to beat the Cincinnati Reds.
All Grady Sizemore had to do was hit it.
The Red Sox outfielder lined one off the bottom of Fenway Park's left-field Wall to drive in the winning run on Tuesday night and Boston beat Cincinnati 4-3 in 12 innings -- the longest game between the teams since Fisk's historic homer in Game 6 of the 1975 World Series.

"It will never get old to walk off," said Sizemore, who had three hits in the game. "I was just glad I could come through."
An All-Star with the Cleveland Indians, Sizemore missed all of the last two seasons while recovering from back surgery. The Red Sox brought him in as an extra outfielder, knowing the low risk would pay off big if he returned to the form that earned him MVP votes from 2005-08.
"I've got to believe that tonight gives him even further feeling like he's contributing here rather than being someone coming back from an injury," Red Sox manager John Farrell said. "Nights like tonight go a long way and continue to rebuild Grady."
Sizemore singled in a run in the third and had another base hit in the eighth, then came up with nobody out in the 12th after David Ortiz and Mike Napoli had already singled off Logan Ondrusek (0-2). He hit the first pitch to left-center, and the outfielders didn't even bother picking it up as Ortiz scored easily.

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (5/8/2014 6:14:52 AM)

Texas DH Mitch Moreland came in last night and pitched an impressive inning of relief in a blowout.
Love it when that happens.

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (5/8/2014 6:16:57 AM)

Also love it when Jeter gets a bunch of love from the Angel fans ... then hits a dinger on his way out.
Dudes lived a charmed life. That he's busted his ass for. And deserved.

Anyone else see the two schmos sitting over the dugout at the Rays game the other night?
Batter rips a hook as bad and as nasty as you can rip one ... right between the two doorknobs ... who never even flinch until its by them.
Could have easily been the first time on camera we've seen a guy get killed. Not hurt, killed.
We bitch all the time about inattentive fans, its not just because you irritate us, its because you may be putting your life in danger.
And I don't want some little kid scarred for life when he sees your brain tissue explode.
Pay attention, or don't go to the game.
And you can eat something before you go, you really can.
You can chat all you want on your limo ride home.
While you're there ... pay attention!

Fly ball pitcher in Arlington? What could go wrong? [;)]

I'm rooting for him, though.

Meh. Incredible durability, no doubt, and certainly a solid pitcher, but total lack of a dominant peak. I think he falls short, unless he can go for another ten years like this (who knows -- maybe he can).

[&:][&:][&:][&:]

I was thinking the same thing. Scotty Baker the Homerun Maker in one of the most hitter friendly ballparks ever built...

Cripes that place made Gary Matthews Jr look like a superstar, enough so that the Angels forked out 5 years and 55 million for him.

Was trying to be objective, but yeah, I can't stand the guy either. [:D]

The Twins ALWAYS got lucky when they happened to finish in front of the Sox...they were ALWAYS the better team...blah blah blah.

Dude absolutely hated us even when we were decent
Never gave us any slack, ever
Fans of other teams think he is a decent guy
Something about the Twins just rubbed him like sandpaper underwear.

Kinda like the current Twins are rubbing us now.

It so makes sense that all the Biebers are in love with Jeter.

(think that'll get 'em going?)

Agree guys, though I will say; baseball can do a better job of protecting. Different bat material (maple's ridiculous), larger nets, etc.

Buerhle is in the mix for my least favorite player of all-time.
