Tanaka does have a major advantage the first time or two around the league, especially with how many different pitches he throws. But he should be solid for them. He looked pretty impressive the game against us I went to in the spring. I don't think he'll be as good as Yu, but probably somewhere in between Yu and Dice-K (really good #2?). Dice-K SHOULD have been a really good pitcher; had the stuff for it. Just mentally he didn't translate over here for whatever reason.

Take away the Yankee hate.
Tanaka was a great signing.
First three starts, 8 + Ks.

Nasty splitter is his out pitch.
He could, for sure, have a much tougher time of it
second time through!

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (4/17/2014 9:34:41 AM)

NYY with 2 shutout wins.

Saving games with guys named Adam Warren and Shawn Kelley.

And the Twins NEEDED to extend Perkins more years/more $$$....WHY??

To be fair, the NYY went the better part of 20years with a guy named Rivera closing games and getting paid a lot.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (4/17/2014 9:43:35 AM)

NYY had their heir apparent go down with injury.

And now saving games with no-name guys. Pretty nice. $$ saving.

Overpaying a closer is nonsense. Esp with the Twins, who won't win that many games, anyway.

Conversion: TJ surgery

Dave E -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (4/22/2014 10:41:27 AM)

I heard he threw something like 137 pitches. Yeesh.

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (4/23/2014 8:29:48 AM)

Another great Tanaka start.
But the experts tell me he will falter soon.
Nice return for Ellsbury. These east teams are still all better than most others.

Pujols reaches 500.
That used to be a much more ballyhooed number.
Kind of shocking how quietly it came and went.
I remember it being like a national holiday around here when Harmon reached it.
That's a whole lotta homers.

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (4/23/2014 10:08:11 AM)

Loved the long stories lately about GoGo.
Non apologetic for his reactions.
Accepts the suspension and will move on.
Won't be changing. Good for you kid. Ride that talent as far as it will take you.

It is if you are playing it straight rather than the Sosa, McGwire, Bonds, Palmeiro, Pay-Fraud, era 500-homer group.

Made the game interesting.
Hopefully they've improved testing and everyone's on the same page again.
That whole steroid era thingy doesn't bother me at all. We all lived. Move on.

He got body-slammed pretty good in that dust-up.

One of the Pirates got a black eye. Awesome.

These guys gotta get over a player watching his shot. Yeah, that's "showing you up", but tough. Make a better pitch.

If he runs out of the box, it's an inside the park HR.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (4/23/2014 10:13:56 AM)

PUjols is back and healthier than last year. 8 dings already.

And DOZIER already with six.

EVIL stuff.

Basically what GoGo said too.
They get him out more often than he gets them.
Nothing personal.

Can believe we haven't fixed Dozier yet.
We don't do that here, son.
Four singles are better, kid.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (4/23/2014 10:30:54 AM)

6HRs/8rBIs

An indictment on the bottom/order guys as much as anything.

Dozier is 3-18 RISP. That has to improve, too.

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (4/23/2014 10:34:58 AM)

Yep.
I'm his biggest lover, but even I'd admit he does his best work when we need it least.
When our bottom of the order knuckleheads do finally get on, they have to be driven in.
I'm looking at you, BD and JM

ronhextall -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (4/23/2014 12:42:16 PM)

Sure seems like the Twins brass and Gardy beat GoGo down. To play Twins ball you need to lose the attitude, lose the home run swing, and just be thankful you put on the uniform and not try and piss anybody off.

Basically how the Twins play against the Yankees 24/7.

Mr. Ed -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (4/23/2014 2:39:18 PM)

Looks like TJ surgery for Nova

TODAY: The Yankees announced that Nova’s second exam confirmed that he has a partially torn UCL, and that Ahmad has recommended surgery.

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (4/23/2014 3:07:12 PM)

Pretty cool stuff in Chicago today for wrigleys 100th anniversary
On WGN right now.

SoMnFan -> RE: MLB General Information PT 4 (4/23/2014 3:38:15 PM)

Diamondbacks a couple outs away from being 5-19. [:-]
Weren't they just pretty damn good a couple years ago?
Wth happened?
I remember we mentioned it last year too. Talk about..... Falling off a ledge.
