Just read the article. There was actually .6 seconds left in the game when the goal was scored. It sucks to put 44 shots on goal and not get one to hit the net! We had 25 shots in the 1st period!

Unbelievable. We outshot them 34-18, but lost 4-2. BSU outshoots their opponent by wide margins every single game. Must not be quality shots.

Looking at the rest of the schedule, we might be in trouble. There's definitely a chance we finish last in the conference and miss the playoffs.

We need to dip the entire state in whatever is the voodoo destroying equivalent of that flea dip that dogs get.

Or, I should say, the entire state minus the women's sports teams. Thank goodness we have some light at the end of our long, dark tunnel.

I am surprised nobody has posted yet about yesterdays North Star cup games. I was home and able to watch them both, and the WCHA teams came to play and really took it to the U, north and south campus'. BSU looked in charge of the game from the get go against the UMD and played a great game. Mankato took control early against the Gophers as well and were the faster and stronger team. I am looking forward to seeing the BSU and MSU match up for the cup tonight. It should be a good game.

I wanted to watch, but what the hell channel was it on!??! I flipped to every possible station. FSN said "no info available" and a notice that whatever program it was (no idea!?!?) was not available in my area. I have never seen that happen on FSN before.

Congrats to BSU. Let's take down #1 tonight! If anyone knows what channel it's on, let me know.

I think it's safe to say the powers that be did not get the results they wanted last night. [&:][&:]

Both games were on FSN+ yesterday. They are both on regular FSN today. Gophers vs Bulldogs at 4PM and Beavers vs Mavericks at 7PM. I will be in the stands today watching the Gophers season continue down the tubes. I am hoping for another win for BSU in the championship game. Even though MSU has a very good team, I just can't bring myself to cheer for them. Too many past years of chippy, and cheap shot hockey from that team for me. Maybe in the NCAA's if they are the last team from the state playing I will be able to, but not yet for me.

It'll take a miracle from BSU. We're not that great.

Bummer that these games do nothing for our playoff chances. We're still really struggling for points in the WCHA. We're about on par with Alabama-Huntsville and Lake Superior State, which is pretty depressing.

This surprised me:

BSU is 10-7-1 in the last 18 meetings with Minnesota Duluth.

I'm gonna be in the Cities tonight for TwinsFest tomorrow. Would love to head over to Xcel for the game. But it ain't gonna fly.

I agree 100%. The scary thing is, watching this years team is almost identical to watching the Wild. Soft, no heart, and other than a few shifts each game no intensity at all.
In hindsight, they might have been better off if the big guns had moved on to the next level and made room for some young hungry freshman.

I was watching last night and trying to come up with another scenario that sums up my Gophers right now.  Then, it occurred to me.  It was right in my face.  We are the Texas Longhorns of College Hockey.

We had a guy come in and bring us to/near the top every year.  We even managed a championship (2 for us).  Now, we are very inferior to the smaller schools in the state. 

Texas <<< A&M/Baylor/TCU

Minn <<< MSU/UMD/BSU

It's eerie to think about because the 2 states, respectively, are the top dogs for each sport.  It's even funny, when the Texas high school football playoffs come around the locals claim it's the biggest HS tourney in the country.  I have to remind them....

Minnesota high school hockey players have a lot of good options when they are looking to play at the college level. Other programs in the Big10 or other conferences are able to grab most of the best players for their "big school" program, but the University of Minnesota has really fine competition for that talent from St. Cloud, Bemidji, Duluth and Mankato (I'm sure I'm missing something).

It's been hard to swallow but the real truth is.  We just aren't that good this year.  I wondered aloud why Rau was named Cap'n.  I still so no leadership on this team.

That was awesome. Watched it at The Local downtown mpls. I think I was the only one watching. But that's ok. Woulda been sweet to be at the X. Just wish the win meant something other than bragging rights. MSU is a WCHA team...give us some points!!

I was at the X yesterday and had to sit through another listless, terrible performance by the Gophers before a good game broke out in the championship game. I won't say any more about the Gophers since they don't seem interested in their season, then either am I. We ended up sitting in what seemed liked the Bemidji section, and from what I saw most Gopher fans that stayed were mostly cheering for BSU as well. The Beavers played a great game last night just like they did Friday. The way they are always moving and hustling makes them so easy to cheer for and it is was a really fun game to watch. I know the Beavers have struggled off and on this season, but if they continue to play the way they did this weekend they could very well make some noise yet this year. They have one tourney championship in their belt now, one more for the WCHA gets them in the big dance for sure. Just like the Gophers now, if the only way in the NCAA's is the league tourney auto-bid that has to be the goal now.

Lost some respect for Mankato last night. Lots of cheap shots. #5 punched a BSU guy in the face right in front of a ref and didn't even get penalized.

Congrats on the win Matt!

And sorry to hear that Mankato has slid back to their old ways. I was just thinking that they had turned a leaf and weren't the dirty thugs of a few years ago (maybe they have a new coach? I don't know), but from your reporting it seems that stuff like that doesn't change very fast.
