Yeah that was something wasn't it. I felt sorry for the goalie. He didn't seem to know if he had it or not, so he ended up letting it drop out of his glove and it took a bad bounce and rolled into between his legs. Heck of a way to lose the championship game...

I was about to post that, but you beat me to it. Should be interesting to see if Hakstol can make the jump to the pro's without any experience playing or coaching at that level.

Whoa! Wonder who will take the UND job? I bet the Mankato and St. Cloud coaches will be prime candidates.

I'm confused.

Brad Berry will be introduced as the next head coach at UND at 1 p.m. today.

“We will seek the best coach for the best men’s hockey program in the country as expeditiously as possible,” said Faison. “I want to thank Dave for the tremendous job he did in leading the men’s hockey program at North Dakota. While the numbers speak to his teams’ many successes on the ice, just as important is the impact he and his staff have had on the student-athletes who have played for him.”

So is Brad Berry an interim head coach? It doesn't say that. It says "the next head coach." Then in the very next sentence, there's a quote saying they will seek the best coach for the Gophers as soon as possible. Really weird. Not only are they looking for a new coach after just hiring one, they are looking for a coach for the Gophers?

Funny, because the GF Herald article says they will seek the best coach for the best men’s hockey program (nothing like blowing your own horn - I'm SHOCKED) in the country as expeditiously as possible.

Yep, not shocking.
Very careful about who they let in.
I would have assumed Eades was Taylor-made for the spot.
Maybe something internal preventing that, too.
You never know in those cloaked programs, exactly what is the truth and what's not.

Agreed.......I see SMF also posted about Cary Eades......I thought he would be a perfect choice.

He was "fired" in 2012 as a UND assistant....wonder what that was about.

Eades and Archibald were playing when I was at grad school at UND and Gino was coaching.

A great time for UND hockey in those days.


30th anniversary of one of the more infamous yet amusing moments in college hockey — the North Dakota–Wisconsin Water Bottle Fight. On a Saturday night in January 1982 at the Dane County Coliseum in Madison, the Badgers were leading the Fighting Sioux 3–0 in the third period.

The Grand Forks Herald picks up what happened next from the perspective of Sioux co-captain Cary Eades:

Eades skated past the Wisconsin bench on his way to make a line change. Wisconsin’s John Newberry squirted Eades in the face with a water bottle — for the second time during the game.

“Their door was open, so I went in to have a talk with him,” Eades said.

Eades proceeded to put his stick up near Newberry’s throat and ask the Badger forward what he was going to do now. Wisconsin defenseman Pat Ethier saw this exchange, ran down the bench and landed a punch on Eades that set off everything.

Maybe Eades will replace Dean Blais (Dave Letterman's brother from a different mother) at Omaha someday.

He (Eades) and Sioux Falls owner could not agree on a new contract.
