Good work on the updates last night Matt. I was flipping between the Beavers, baseball, and something else and forgot to post until now. From what I saw, it was pretty similar to the UMD game last Saturday. The first period the _____ were on us and played most of the period in our zone. Bitzer actually let in a softy (very rare) and they were taking it to us. 2nd period apparently was more of the same. We actually scored at the conclusion of the period to make it 4-3, but it was ruled to come after the buzzer. They actually said the puck was on the line as time expired, so we're talking milliseconds.

3rd period we outplayed them. The thing I'm most encouraged about though is we've played, at the time, the #1 and #2 teams in the country and we can no doubt skate with them. It's not like a few years ago when we'd occasionally beat the top teams but we'd need our goalie to stop twice as many shots as our opponent. We have some scorers and we look pretty dangerous. If our young Dmen improve as the season progresses, I think we'll have a nice year.

UND is down to their 3rd goalie tonight, so maybe we can go in there and play well again. Maybe we'd get ranked then?!?

Is Jeff Jubinville still with the Tulsa Oilers. I see they are affiliated with the Winnipeg Jets. How close to the NHL is he? Looks like he had a good season last year.

Big weekend in Bemidji with 2 games against Minnesota State. I see we are the first team out of the Top 20, which I guess puts us at 21. Minnesota State is right behind us in the polls. Gotta win at least one of these games.

Right on Matt. At least 2 points this weekend is my hope as well. Hopefully we jump on them early, because I don't think the Mavs have won a game yet.

Goalie who started his youth hockey career in our association is currently killing it at D1 Mercyhurst.
Left us in 7th grade and took the long, lonely route (that has finally paid off).
First kid we've had that went D1, excited to see him there. He's not just ON the team, he's the man there most nights. Pretty cool.

Only flipped to the BSU game during baseball commercials last night. Saw the short-handed goal by Mankato. What a back-breaker. Looked like a very even game most of the way. Disappointing to come out of it with a loss. Tonight isn't must-win or anything in the grand scheme of things, but it would suck to fall 4 points behind Mankato right out of the chute.

This is a pretty even matchup between these two teams. Beavers look more athletic. Mavericks play smarter.

I have a funny feeling this season is gonna be a big letdown. Bitzer doesn't seem as sharp as he was all of last season. Also it looks like the returning skaters just assume they'll be better because they have one more year of experience. Letting the predictions of Top 4 in the conference get to their heads. Maybe this sweep will wake them up.

Man, that happens way too often (with teams I follow)
As you say ... they simply ASSUME things will be great the "next year".
Not so fast my friends ...

Gophers have been guilty of that for decades now.

I think this is a really good point. Friday was a really even game, and last night the Beavers were better. However, we leave the weekend with 0 points. The reason for this was too many odd man rushes given up, and especially on the PP.

The other difference is that Mankato has a few more snipers on their team. When Gervais or Blueger get a grade A chance, they don't make a mistake. It's in the back of the net.

I hope you're wrong about Bitzer this year, but he hasn't been as sharp as last year. Tough start to the conference year.
