I'm confused.

Brad Berry will be introduced as the next head coach at UND at 1 p.m. today.

“We will seek the best coach for the best men’s hockey program in the country as expeditiously as possible,” said Faison. “I want to thank Dave for the tremendous job he did in leading the men’s hockey program at North Dakota. While the numbers speak to his teams’ many successes on the ice, just as important is the impact he and his staff have had on the student-athletes who have played for him.”

So is Brad Berry an interim head coach? It doesn't say that. It says "the next head coach." Then in the very next sentence, there's a quote saying they will seek the best coach for the Gophers as soon as possible. Really weird. Not only are they looking for a new coach after just hiring one, they are looking for a coach for the Gophers?

Reports are that the transition to Berry will be seamless.
He is a firm believer in all Sioux principles.
That a punch to an opponents head is actually a "good physical play".
That a blatant trip on an opponent is actually just that a "dude can't skate".
That tackling an opponent varies only slightly from "finishing a check".
And that starting a fight once a loss is imminent, is not only good strategy, it is a program staple.

OK, good. We can continue to count on your allegiance to the maroon and gold. I was worried for half a day.

UND fan here, thrilled to see Bridesmaid Dave moving on.

Agreed.......I see SMF also posted about Cary Eades......I thought he would be a perfect choice.

He was "fired" in 2012 as a UND assistant....wonder what that was about.

Here is Eades taking on Badger nation

Good stuff Miles.
Remember, I was a a ten year old Grand Forks hockey player then.
That rivalry was heated.
For about a 6 year stretch my Friday and Saturday nights consisted of either going to the game or watching it on TV.

I wish an NHL team would hire Lucia away.

SoMnFan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (5/20/2015 1:54:24 PM)

Sadly, I agree.
We are in a huge rut.

Apparently former North Dakota, and new Philly, coach Dave Hakstol had an out-clause in his college contract that included a $100,000 penalty if he took a job in the NHL.

Per the Grand Forks Herald:

When negotiating coach Dave Hakstol’s last contract in 2012, (UND athletic director Brian) Faison put a clause in the contract that specifically outlined a penalty fee if Hakstol left UND for an NHL head coaching position.

The Philadelphia Flyers hired Hakstol to be their head coach last week.

According to Hakstol’s contract, he will owe the school $100,000 for leaving his contract before June 30, 2015, for an NHL head coaching job.

Coaching the Flyers is a much more high profile job than coaching North Dakota. And probably a higher paying gig. Hakstol had the UND head job since 2004-05.

Great thinking by North Dakota – seriously. Losing Hakstol isn’t great for the hockey program, but at least it got some monetary gain out of it. There's not much precedence for this, since a coach hasn't gone from college to the NHL in almost 30 years. So they definitely knew he was a hot name before the Flyers came calling and shocked humanity.

So let’s say he had to pay his own buyout to work for Ed Snider … smart business decision perhaps? It’ll turn out well if general manager Ron Hextall can get Hakstol some secondary scoring.

It's almost time Matt! You ready for some Beaver hockey?? I'm looking forward to this year. Hoping to see more of the triplets, and word on the street is that there's some skilled freshmen coming in this year as well. Replacing all of our experienced D men from last year will be a challenge. Also, we have have UND and UMD right out of the gate so that'll be fun.

Our schedule is always exciting. Probably the best schedule of all the Minnesota teams year in and year out. I hate fall; the beginning of BSU hockey is one of the few things to look forward to.

twinsfan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (10/6/2015 9:02:29 AM)

Nice game to start the season for BSU, defeating Manitoba 6-1 in an exhibition matchup. Now let's take down the Bulldogs this weekend!

twinsfan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (10/6/2015 9:05:38 AM)

drew, what do you know about freshman Jay Dickman? 6'6" 232 lb from St. Paul. Looks like he's playing on one of the top lines and he had 2 points in the game against Manitoba.

drew -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (10/6/2015 9:49:39 AM)

I don't know much about the freshman yet. Most of the press has been about the dman Eichstadt, and that's because he's a home town boy.

6'6", 232 lbs? Won't be easy to miss him when he's on the ice!

SoMnFan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (10/6/2015 7:33:33 PM)

Very cool to see you guys geared up for Beaver hockey already.
Good luck fellas.
You deserve a fun season.
I'd pull for the Beaves in any game my Gophers weren't involved.

Thanks SMF. We're picked to finish 4th in the WCHA behind Mankato, Tech, and Bowling Green. It'll be interesting to see if last year was an aberration in the WCHA where we had 3 teams ranked in the top 10 for much of the year.

What's your outlook on the Gophs? I know they lost a lot, but I heard it may be "addition by subtraction" by being able to get rid of some prima donnas. Is that accurate?

SoMnFan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (10/8/2015 8:20:52 AM)

Definitely feels like a stronger group mentally.
Something missing last year, hoping that IT returns this year.
The new recruits have some edge to them, have paid some higher dues than the previous crops.
Of the ones I know anyway. Shocks me how many come in that I've never heard of before.
Used to be all familiar prep names to us, now we have a roster of guys most Minnesotans have never heard of or seen play before.
I'm hoping to be pleasantly surprised. [:D]

drew -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (10/10/2015 9:42:01 AM)

So, we have to wait one more day to open up the season. Apparently there was a power outage at the AMSOIL arena yesterday and by the time it was fixed the ice was in too bad of shape to play. I hope the Sanford is full tonight and the Beavers come out flying! Big chance against a highly ranked opponent to kick this season off with some momentum.

SoMnFan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (10/10/2015 9:54:28 AM)

Floored when I heard that last night.
I love Duloot, but really, you aren't generation-protected?
WTH?

Steve Lentz -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (10/11/2015 10:55:13 AM)

It took 40 saves by a rookie goalie, but UNO was able to sweep Minnesota State at Minnesota State. That doesn't hardly ever happen.

drew -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (10/11/2015 11:02:33 AM)

Great win by the Beavs last night! UMD came out flying in the first, but Bitzer shut them down and kept it tied. In the 2nd and 3rd, we were probably better than the Dogs and O'Connor scored with 22 seconds left for a great 3-2 win. We go from the #2 team in the country to the #4 team next weekend, the no-names.

Nice! Missed the game. Just checked here for the result. Go Beavers!

Would be nice if the Beavers could pull this game out. Down 4-3 to the NoNames with 17 minutes left. Either way, they are apparently competing well. Not really watching the game with MLB playoffs going on. Will check back in later.

Tie game with 6 minutes to go!!

Nice! I have to admit, I love the way the Beavers play the game. They are an easy team to cheer for even for a Gopher fan like me. [:D]
