B10 hockey sucks.
Hope that wasn't too long-winded. [:D]

Much more eloquent than I. [&:]

That does sum it up nicely though.

I know man. Just being silly. If you read the Gopher forum, there were a bunch of us lamenting how stupid the B10 conference is. It sucks. We all want the WCHA back to the way it was also.

The B10 has no emotion to it. Going to PSU or OSU is just mind numbingly boring. This season had nothing until the NCAA's kicked in. That sucks. We use to get so geeked up for ND, Wis, SCSU..ect..

Everybody hates it but I guess they get more money from the Big 10 Network for the TV rights. Very sad. I think it will hurt NDSU and SCSU in recruiting.

And BSU. Don't forget BSU.

Never heard of em.

Bemidji State University Head Men’s Hockey Coach Tom Serratore has announced the hiring of Travis Winter as assistant coach. The 2009 BSU graduate and former captain, returns to Bemidji State after getting his coaching feet wet in the United States (USHL) and North American (NAHL) Hockey Leagues.

I didn't realize Bert Gilling left BSU to take over as a head coach at some university in Calgary. Bummer.

Matt,

What's the countdown to the drop of the puck for Beaver hockey? I'm looking forward to discussing it with you this winter! Hopefully a better season is on the way.

twinsfan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (9/27/2014 10:16:54 AM)

Looks like they start the season at UND on Friday Oct 10. I wonder if LPTV will televise it? If not, the first TV game will be the following night when UND visits Bemidji.

Last season started out with a lot of promise, but they just couldn't keep it going. Need better goaltending and a more dynamic offense. The defense seemed good, probably because that's how they figured they could stay in games.

SoMnFan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (9/27/2014 2:24:05 PM)

Got any write-ups on the team this year?
Haven't heard much.

twinsfan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (9/27/2014 2:58:05 PM)

Haven't seen anything yet. Will post something when I see it. Please tell me your son will be rooting for BSU in that opener.

Anyone have a subscription to read the article? I thought about creating a username, but they were asking for full name, address, etc., and it was unclear if they'd be sending a bill or what...

Edit: Well, I set up an account anyway. It still won't let me read the article. I guess you have to have a true newspaper subscription to read it.

Even if they make him wear green, he should find a generic/non-Gophers maroon and gold stocking cap or something. They call him on it, he says it's not Gophers. Wear it all season long.

Congrats to former Beaver Brad Hunt for cracking the Edmonton Oilers' roster to start the season.

Another year older, another year wiser — or at least that’s what Bemidji Sate is hoping for. Last season is one the Beavers are ready to put behind them, but they know they have a few holes to improve upon. In the WCHA coaches teleconference Sept. 29, BSU coach Tom Serratore specifically noted needing to strengthen the power play and work on tipping the scales on their goal differential.

While some work does need to be done, BSU returns mostly intact from last season, losing only four players and adding eight freshmen. The Beavers return their top four scorers, notably junior forward Cory Ward who led the team with 29 points last season and 18 goals. His fellow junior forward Markus Gerbrandt trailed Ward’s effort with 25 points and 15 goals. Senior defenseman Matt Prapavessis will anchor a veteran defensive corps that returns in full, while both Andrew Walsh and Jesse Wilkins return between the pipes.

Based on what he’s seen in practice so far, Serratore has been impressed by his large freshmen class. He noted that the youngsters — in his words, a “skilled group” — will get ice time, it’s simply a matter of when opportunities arise. While he’s pleased with what he’s seen in practice, he is also realistic about the learning curve that takes place in games.

Overall, Serratore is confident the Beavers experience last year is a solid foundation for their growth this season.

“We feel we can build on the backline, in the net and we feel we have some players who can generate offense,” Serratore said. “We’re also a year older. We were very young last year and we’re experienced this year.

“We really like what we have. We’re a year older, a year better.”

Looks like Illo, Mattson and Jubinville are the only three players of note that we lost. But I do like all of those guys. We return our top 4 scorers, but Illo was always a threat and I think we'll miss his offensive abilities. Not sure what happened to Mattson. He was only a Junior last year, but he's not listed on this year's roster. Hopefully some of these Freshmen are actually scorers. Serratore is selling them hard, that's for sure.

I WISH that was our schedule.

twinsfan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (10/7/2014 3:22:01 PM)

The Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) made its move to the Twin Cities official on Monday while concurrently introducing a pair of new faces and saying goodbye to two long-time WCHA staffers.

The WCHA, under new commissioners Bill Robertson (men) and Aaron Kemp (women), opened its new offices in Edina in late August, a move which consolidates the league’s operations into one location after decades split between Denver, Colo. and Madison, Wis. under previous commissioners Bruce McLeod and Otto Breitenbach.

Robertson and Kemp both believe having the offices in one location will assist the league in marketing, promotional and sponsorship/partnership opportunities as should the announced the additions of Matt Hodson and Alyssa Bennett.

Hodson, the WCHA’s new associate commissioner for public relations, will oversee the league’s external and internal communications, brand marketing and social media. Hodson was with the San Francisco Giants media relations staff from 2001 until 2008 and also served as the assistant athletic media relations director at Stanford University.

Did the Ducks release Radoslav Illo? I don't see him on the Norfolk Admirals roster.

Wish Lakeland TV would broadcast the game tonight. How hard would it be to bring the equipment to Grand Forks for a night? Maybe it will be on CBSSN or NBCSN or some oddball channel.
