Jeff Jesser -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (1/10/2016 7:48:41 PM)

I'm actually 'ok' with the loss. It hurt but I came in to the year with a couple goals for the team.

1. Continue to improve
2. Really see if Teddy is the guy

My thoughts before the first game in SF:

8 wins - expected
10 wins - wow
Division Title - [&:]

I though "next year" would be the year to start cranking up expectations. Zimmer and Co. blew me away this year as we went along. Think about this for a second. We had a shit-tacular OL last year, Kalil regressed and we lost our starting C and RT. We knew WR and S were also massive question marks. That being said we opened the year, on the road, at what amounted to a 10 PM game for us. Recipe for disaster and it was. If we played SF any other time this year we would have smoked them. Our other losses were @Denver when they were at full strength and the toast of the NFL. GB/Sea/Cards, 2 on the road and both went down to the wire (in fact, we shot ourselves in the foot in Ari).

That's not bad and we have a lot of studs moving forward. Can't wait to blow the roof off the new stadium.

TJSweens -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (1/10/2016 8:32:52 PM)

I'm not OK with it at all. We were a chip shot FG away from going to the next round and our place kicker pooped his weener. Walsh is like the short stop who can make the diving stop and throw out a runner and then gets eaten up routine grounders. Honest to God, I didn't think you could hook a kick that badly from that close. Usually the ball needs to travel farther to wind up that far off target.

Next year I want I want the O-line replaced from tackle to tackle. I want a new kicker.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (1/10/2016 9:34:14 PM)

Agree on the kick. I just looked at my wife and laughed.

"ok with it" was the wrong verbage. I was gutted by 98. That one hit me hard. 2009 was tough. I fought hard, all year, to say "F-Favre" and then I started to buy in to it. Finally did and he 'farve'd me'. That one was also tough. This one sucked because we had em' but I am so excited about the future, after all the BS we've had to deal with, I'm 'ok' with it.

I can't wait until next year. We will dominate. If we aren't 12-4'ish and division champs with home field, it'll be a disappointment.

twinsfan -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (1/11/2016 8:36:56 AM)

I've been sick as a dog the last couple days. Took a Tylenol PM right before the game and kinda dozed thru most of it. But I was awake when Walsh lined up for the field goal. I was listening to the WCCO morning show this morning and Dave Lee and his producers were all using words like "shocked" and "disbelief" that the FG was missed. Really? After all these years of being a Vikings fan, how can you be shocked by that? Did I expect him to make it? Yes. But there was no shock that he did miss it. None whatsoever. Not for me anyway.

I like the optimism but I am SO FREAKING TIRED of always have to look to "next year." I've been looking to "next year" for about 46 years now.

Nope. In our house, no one wanted to watch it, expecting him to miss(the ol' can't bear to watch the disaster).

And it was shanked. Oh, man. Epic Shank.

Looks like it's been covered.
Exciting, fun game, until the final inevitable heartbreak.
Loved the defensive effort, except for a simple Captain Munnerlyn route to a downed escape artist.
You have help coming up the middle, and you allow him to escape wide?
THAT play signified to me, that the loss was inevitable.
As did SETTLING for field goals, even SETTLING for the final try instead of pounding for first downs or TDs.
"We're settlers, son .... It's what we do"
Speechless after the inevitable AP fumble. He's a moron. Shoulda covered up. Shoulda not tried to reach more yards. Shoulda shoulda shoulda. Shoulda cut your ass?
A couple worthless players still need to be culled. Our punter is a joke. Wallace is embarassing.
Our QB is too small to be a pocket passer, most every throw has the very good chance to be batted down or turned over.
If you aren't going to learn to use him like they use Wilson, he will never be a decent NFL QB.
That isn't a settled position, IMO. Doesn't keep the ball up, doesn't release it high enough, doesn't read his very unstable pocket correctly. And yes, his O-line is awful.
Love the D love the HC love most of our young talent.
Could easily see a dominant 12-4 out of this team next year.
Could also see a disappointing 8-8 because we are what we are.
And finally... FG kickers and goalies .....
Can't live without em, can't kill em. Walsh has been like falling in love with an addicted hooker. Some pretty great moments, some inevitable exasperation.
Thank you all for not blowing up the stupid excuses. Laces schmases. I don't care if there were shards of glass pointing the wrong way, if your kicker doesn't hit that three foot putt, it's on his choking ass alone.
We've all done it, just never when it meant that much to so many.

Read where Peter King asked an ex-special teams coach about laces.

Said it would be a factor longer out. Said he simply rushed it.

just like I rush my golf swing and hack.

Lots of good points here. Need to move the QB more.

Need to let Peterson move on.

Settlers. Dang straight. Just like a lot of other MN games. Settle. Play not to lose.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (1/11/2016 10:07:52 AM)

Captain. WTF were you thinking?

Un-real.

twinsfan -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (1/11/2016 11:00:13 AM)

I think it was discussed that in those cold conditions, it was decided that the holder would not bother with trying to spin the hold. Makes sense. Not worth the risk when your hands are that numb and the ball is that hard. Especially from that distance. Kicker has to be ready for whatever the hold is. Other than laces, looked like the hold was standard and fine.

sixthwi -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (1/11/2016 11:09:36 AM)

Now you guys know how I feltl when I called the Seahags the luckiest SOB's I've ever seen. From Fail Mary, to the failed on-side kick, to this. Why does it have
to happen to such a jack like Pete Carroll?

Captain. WTF were you thinking?

Several early examples, where our defensive coaches adjusted our mindset correctly.
We alternated encircling Wilson with forcing him one way or the other.
They had obviously understood the importance of corralling him, and on one game-changing play ... Our most experienced defender didn't follow protocol.
It's what we do here. So many good things. Too many complete brainfarts/collapses at critical times.
Minnesota sports. Catch the fever baby. It's a sickness.
Kirby Puckett and Jack Morris refusing to lose was abnormal for us.
Thomas Vanek being the best player in the country and acting like it, was abnormal.
The Lynx using years of suckage to build a dominant ring-winning team is abnormal.
Those are the only times our leaders led us to the promised land.
Certain towns and states expect success. We expect heartbreak and failure.

Multiple dropped interceptions.

Waynes looked like a player. Finally.

Yup
Those int drops were very eerie ... Started to get that feeling.
"You just can't make that catch, huh?" Too much for you in the moment. Sigh.
Very amazed by those who just trudge forward, loving this franchise like they're getting rewarded.
Excited by Waynes getting a taste of it. Hopefully it pushes him forward.

SoMnFan -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (1/11/2016 12:43:54 PM)

Wife suffered thru the whole thing with me yesterday.
Looked over at me as Walsh set up and said ... "Don't say it"
She knew. And she's not jaded like I am.

True Vikings fans

Stand with Blair

Ahhhh Minnesota nice

For those that agree please like and share... let's show our support for him and our Vikings as true Viking fans should!

But where is the "Stand with Pete" stuff??

Mr. Ed -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (1/11/2016 12:45:39 PM)

I have not yelled good/bad at the TV since the Favre year.

Hate it when the emotional investment gets the typical Vikings treatment.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (1/11/2016 12:49:14 PM)

Walsh appreciates support from inside and outside Winter Park
Blair Walsh said Monday that "there are some great kickers in this league that have said some nice things to me. I very much appreciate that."

We are Twins fans, we understand this.

Thanks for saying that. Been driving me nuts.

On another forum you get shredded if you're not 'over it' and giving Walsh a reach around.

TJSweens -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (1/11/2016 12:58:28 PM)

Waynes has been trending upward for awhile now IMO. I think the biggest difference between Waynes and Rhodes as rookies is that we had no CB's worth mentioning when Xavier was a rookie, so he started and played. He got scorched a lot as a rookie, but he got better. Waynes came in with Rhodes as #1 and a rejuvenated Newman at the corners and Captain finally embracing the nickel role to which he was ideally suited. After some early ugliness, I thought he generally stepped up whenever he was called on. He was outstanding on ST's as the year went on. Next year I wouldn't mind seeing Waynes move in as starting CB and sliding Newman over to safety for Sendejo, who has the greatest gift I have ever seen for completely whiffing when trying to tackle a stationary target.

The other interesting developments to watch will be if Greenway retires and if they keep Robison. I would like to see Chad retire and be replaced by someone younger and faster. On the one hand the emergence of Hunter could make Robison expendable. At the same time, one of the hallmarks of a Zim defense is quality depth on the D-Line with a lot of rotation.

Offensively, the left side of the line has to go. Kalil is a complete bust at this point. As the season wore on it became obvious that his run blocking was almost as bad as his pass blocking. This was supposed to be his bounce back year and he played even worse. Fusco was almost as bad at an easier position as Kalil. They could try moving him back to the right side, but that seems like a desperation move. Just get rid of him. Center is a crap shoot. You will have Sullivan and his multiple back surgeries backed up by a 35 year old Berger. Harris seemed to be adequate by the end of the season. He still seems more valuable to me as someone who can back up multiple positions. I can't tell if Clemmings was better, about the same or worse than Loadholt. I suppose it is reasonable to say Clemmings will get better.

I'm also very indifferent on AP coming back. I get that he has a career of incredible individual stats, but his game doesn't seem to have great synergy with modern NFL offense. His style of running requires too many slow developing plays. A lot of this would be mitigated by a half way decent O-line.

Some great guys busted their ass in bone chilling cold, they carried the little ball right to the edge of the cup.
Walsh had one job to do, knock that little ball in the cup, and he didn't do it.
No ones asking the guy to quit the game, but let's admit what happened.
He'd have been basking in glory land all week had he simply knocked it home.
If you're wanting that glory, be willing to accept the blame.

SoMnFan -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (1/11/2016 1:03:52 PM)

Good stuff Tim.

Strange collapse on the PI by Rhodes yesterday.
Just an awful breakdown in technique, which he had been working hard to correct.
Very good officiating yesterday, btw.

TJSweens -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (1/11/2016 1:07:09 PM)

Agree on the officiating. Other than one play where I thought Wilson was still clearly inside the tackles and got away with grounding, I thought the officiating was pretty solid.

One of about 6 passes by Wilson that should've been picked off.
