Agree on the officiating. Other than one play where I thought Wilson was still clearly inside the tackles and got away with grounding, I thought the officiating was pretty solid.

Agreed. The IG was textbook but for more than the most part it was refreshing not to have to think of how the refs played a roll.

I'm convinced that, depending on who you play, that a couple of passes Waynes defensed, would have been PI in other locales, and with other crews.

I was expecting PI flags on those, just because the interpretation seems to be so varied.

Oh hell yeah
Along with a lot more holding calls on our line
It was refreshing to be given a fair chance against an elite, for a change
It rarely happens

From the Pioneer Press:

The Vikings have fired offensive line coach Jeff Davidson, coach Mike Zimmer said Tuesday.

Asked why he didn't renew his contract, Zimmer said "I didn't want to."

God, I love Zim!

Love how he handles almost everything.
Very Belichekian

Except with Belichek it has become a schtick. He gained a persona and now he just uses it as an excuse to be a condescending dick. I hope it stays genuine with Zim.

You don't miss the cute little Okie dokes and the red-faced indignation?

Me either.

By Patrick Reusse JANUARY 12, 2016 — 10:48PM

Bud Grant was hired as the second head coach of the Vikings on March 10, 1967. Nearly four decades later, the possibility has arisen that Minnesota has been home to the three coaches and managers to offer the least amount of bull slinging in America’s major team sports.

First, there was Grant, who served 18 seasons [1967-1983, 1985] with less preoccupation over how he was perceived by the public than any coach I had witnessed in action.

Then, along came Tom Kelly, who served 23 games as the Twins interim manager in September 1986, and then managed the club for 15 seasons [1987-2001]. He was the second coming of Grant, not in style but with his “this-is-me, take-it-or-leave-it’’ approach to dealing with the public, the media and his athletes.

Grant was 10 days shy of his 40th birthday when he was brought in from the Winnipeg Blue Bombers to coach the Vikings. Kelly was a month past his 36th birthday when he got his interim shot with the Twins and turned it into holding the managing job as long as he desired.

Mike Zimmer was 57-plus when he was hired as coach of the Vikings on Jan. 15, 2014. The age difference when he got the job will be the only thing that will prevent Zimmer from wearing as well as did Grant and Kelly with his combination of smarts and candor.

In my view, Grant and Kelly were united with the greatest asset a coach and/or manager can have: logic.

Bud always said, “Don’t make a decision before you have to.’’ Kelly always said, “You don’t have a chance unless you can pitch and make the plays in the field.’’

Yeah, they made some blunders with evaluation, but not all that many. They could both stare across a field and pick out a player – or, as importantly, a non-player.

Bud won when he had the players. Kelly won when he had the players. And the demeanor hardly changed whether things were up or down. Bud still was going duck hunting at 6 in the morning, and Kelly still was going to be throwing early batting practice.

And now along comes Zimmer, and we’re reminded how refreshing it can be to have someone in charge who isn’t dedicated to selling a story to the fans and the reporters.

On Tuesday, Zimmer came up with a quote that will live in infamy (for me, anyway).

Zimmer revealed in his season-ending media session that the contract of offensive line coach Jeff Davidson had not been renewed. Asked why he did not renew Davidson’s contract, Zimmer said:

“I didn’t want to.’’

It was a display of logic so precise that Bud Grant and Tom Kelly would have been proud to have uttered the response.

Reusse with another good one today.

TJSweens -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (1/13/2016 4:21:43 PM)

He must be reading my posts again.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (1/13/2016 6:34:08 PM)

Tony Sparano is the Minnesota Vikings’ new offensive line coach, the Star Tribune reported Wednesday afternoon, replacing Jeff Davidson, who was let go earlier this week.
The Vikings reportedly showed interest in Sparano and New York Giants offensive line coach Pat Flaherty to fill the position, and also expressed interest in former Miami Dolphins interim head coach Dan Campbell. But Sparano, who coached tight ends and offensive line with the Dallas Cowboys when Minnesota head coach Mike Zimmer was there, has reportedly gotten the job.
The Vikings haven’t announced the move yet

Mr. Ed -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (1/13/2016 6:37:10 PM)

It was a tough loss for the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday for so many reasons. Not only did they lose the game in the last seconds, they let a nine-point lead slip away in the fourth quarter and they will not advance to the divisional round of the playoffs.

Instead, the Seattle Seahawks will face the Carolina Panthers next Sunday for the right to play in the NFC Championship. And while the Seahawks were happy they escaped TCF Bank Stadium with a win, there was one player from Seattle that showed great respect for the Vikings and their season.

Earl Thomas, who is going to the Pro Bowl, knows how hard it is to win playoffs games as has been a member of the Seahawks since 2010. And for him to go the Vikings locker room afterwards and commend the team shows the Vikings are team that has a bright future ahead of them.

SoMnFan -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (1/16/2016 7:44:40 PM)

Used to really really like the New England Patriots.
Its grown into full-fledged love at this point.

They coach better than anyone.
They play better than anyone.
They do things better than anyone.

Its so refreshing to watch big games... and everything we fans have the benefit of seeing ... happen.
They're the only team that consistently
knows the importance of 7's and 3's
knows the game inside and out
knows what their opponents will try to do
knows what their own limitations are and steers clear of them
knows that just because we have a lead, that does not equate to a win
knows that you have to keep scoring
knows that sometimes you simply have to throw all the time
knows that defenses cant cover everyone
knows that just because a guy can't fly or run someone over, doesn't mean he cant be valuable

Just incredibly fun to watch this run they have been on for a long long time.
KC was very impressive imo. They stayed with them as well as they could.
The Pats defense is highly underrated, and their bend but don't break attitude won that game eventually.
Tightened in the first half when needed and turned 7's into 3's.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (1/16/2016 7:45:42 PM)

KC's end of the game drive reminded me of Andy Reid/McNabb in the Super Bowl.

Took wayyyy too long.

Steve Lentz -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (1/16/2016 7:46:00 PM)

All Brady does is WIN!

Mr. Ed -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (1/16/2016 7:47:08 PM)

One can only hope Zimmer continues to coach the D and they get clued in on offense. Having a team like they did adjust to Seattle was encouraging.

Still don't get why the MN nice is soooo heavy to Walsh. He shanked PATs this year too. Not like he was Gary Anderson perfect.

Deal with the miss, don't slobber the "love" on him. Bring in competition next year.

Hear hear.
Understand the whole forgiveness thing, but the guy lipped out a three foot putt.
Enough already.
It wasn't like he has been Mr Perfect. Its his only job.
Lets stop encouraging failure.

Crazy how that went. How it flipped from kill us now to yeehaw...

I mean how in the hell does a team come back from 4th and 20 from their own 4 with less than a minute like that. We're all feeling it...like yup here's the salt in our barely closed wound. And then...somehow...we are given some soothing salve and the Packers choke in overtime.

I feel better now. [:D]

Mr. Ed -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (1/17/2016 7:17:02 AM)

Happy for Fitzgerald. Very rarely can a WR put a team on his back, like that, and win a game. Un-real. What an effort on the long play in OT.
