Spent most of my young life admiring and feeling sorry for .... Archie Manning.

Love seeing him be the most-successful "Dad of the QBs" at this point, tho.
Good for him. He deserves great things for all the abuse he took.
Some good karma.

Great Point, and I know that great Dads like you,Ed,myself and Archie would gladly trade our own success for success of our children.

Is it safe to say we dodged a bullet by not drafting this asshole?

Great to see Tom Flores looking good on TV this morning.
Very underrated and under appreciated in NFL history. IMO.

And here is a truly sad statement from Manziel's father:

"I truly believe if they can't get him help, he won't live to see his 24th birthday," Paul Manziel said.

Wouldn't, shouldn't, couldn't the father share some of the responsibility in making sure his son gets rehab help? Why the "if they can't get him help"? Wouldn't his father be part of they?

TJSweens -> RE: Super Bowl Chat (2/5/2016 12:19:43 PM)

Having a significant background in this kind of thing Miles, I have no doubt his father has already tried and failed. He is probably at the point of "if he won't listen to me, maybe he will listen to X, Y or Z". I know, I had my parents at a pretty despondent point before I got help.

A story on his upbringing. Family has a history that despite all of their success, they get into trouble.

Sounds like Johnny's father and mother tried to isolate their kids from the negatives of the family members that preceded them.

SoMnFan -> RE: Super Bowl Chat (2/5/2016 1:10:05 PM)

Johnnys biggest problem is that he didn't and doesn't .... need football
There are a lot of self-destructive young men playing our professional sports.
Some stay half-way sane during their careers, because they need the money their talent provides them.
Johnny doesn't have that incentive.

sixthwi -> RE: Super Bowl Chat (2/5/2016 1:22:37 PM)

Another problem is when guys only play football for the money. Eddie Lacy seems to be one of those guys. I've heard him say he doesn't really like football and that's why he probably doesn't stay in shape - The Kent Hrbek of the NFL??? (although I don't know if Kent really liked baseball. He sure didn't taken care of his body like he cared much)

TJSweens -> RE: Super Bowl Chat (2/5/2016 1:31:02 PM)

Kent loved baseball. His rationale was that he saw his father work his ass off every day of his life and never got a chance to enjoy life because of his ALS. As a result, he vowed that enjoying life was his priority.

Kent love life and still does.

Kent was the inspiration for a great song in the Albert Finney musical Scrooge

His song, "I like Life"

I think the coolest thing would be to go fishing with Hrbek.

Glad the Vikings didn't have a homeless man with Zygi's ear. Cleveland really should have commissioned a $200-300 thousand dollar study to see which QB they should have taken...

oh wait...

Todd M -> RE: Super Bowl Chat (2/5/2016 3:48:18 PM)

For better or worse I think if Cleveland takes Teddy we take Carr.

djskillz -> RE: Super Bowl Chat (2/5/2016 4:29:03 PM)

Could be. Carr was my guy for sure. Still very happy with Teddy though. Both will be very good IMO.

He could have enjoyed life and stayed in shape and played another five years. He was being paid alot of money to put forth his best efforts to playing baseball and he didn't do that. Being fat and always injured wasn't exactly fulfilling his contract.

If he played today we'd probably have similar frustrations like we have with Mauer. Other than the big one, he brought us two world championships. That cuts Herbie alot of slack.

No argument here. A Kent Hrbek who took care of his body would have been a hall of famer.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Super Bowl Chat (2/7/2016 9:09:52 PM)

"Turn out the lights, the party's over."

RIP Dandy Don Meredith

djskillz -> RE: Super Bowl Chat (2/7/2016 10:17:15 PM)

Congrats to Peyton. I certainly didn't see this. Looks like Cam (MeBron of the NFL) and his Panther teammates read a few too many of their press clippings.

I will also say this; this game made me really, really excited for our Vikings. I was at that game this year in Denver, and Teddy far outplayed what Cam did today, at their house, in a game that we EASILY could have won. The future is very, very bright for the Purple, guys.

bstinger -> RE: Super Bowl Chat (2/7/2016 10:20:46 PM)

I like to see guys who lack humility put in their place. I also enjoyed watching the D dominate the game. It makes me more hopeful that our team's blueprint is close to getting us there. The D really needs to upgrade the safety spot opposite Smith. Then we need to invest in OL and WR. We could be their next year with the right moves.

djskillz -> RE: Super Bowl Chat (2/7/2016 10:22:35 PM)

Honestly, we could have easily been there THIS year. If we beat Seattle, I see us beating Arizona. Who knows against Carolina? But I'm not sure I don't like our chances a 2nd time against Denver, either. We are clooooosse.

TJSweens -> RE: Super Bowl Chat (2/8/2016 6:36:36 AM)

The puppy-monkey-baby ad needs to die a quick death.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Super Bowl Chat (2/8/2016 7:50:54 AM)

Missed that add, Sweens, but others in the house did not,and I heard it for 2 more quarters constantly. Sounds icky. [:D]

MDK -> RE: Super Bowl Chat (2/8/2016 10:20:57 AM)

Lots of the commercials were duds.

Expected more from halftime........when I found out that Beyonce would be there, my hopes for halftime went down the toilet.

Great defense from both teams.

Pretty bad offense. One thing Peyton has learned, with a defense as good as Denver's, don't screw it up by trying to do too much offensively.
