According to the Sports Business Daily, the Detroit Lions’ most likely opponent in their annual Thanksgiving Day game next season is the NFC North-champion Vikings. The division was still called the NFC Central in the Vikings’ last Turkey Day game, a 2000 victory over the Dallas Cowboys.

Awesome

Fellas, hate to rain on the parade, but this has been debunked before. Completely useless "survey" because it's just Dick's Sporting Goods. Many of those states don't even have a Dick's, or very, very few. And then think of what percentage of jerseys are bought at Dick's. Ask yourself; if you're going to buy an NFL jersey, are you going to buy it at Dick's? I don't know a single person that would. You go to NFL.com, Amazon, Fanatics, a Chinese bootlegger, etc. Not Dick's. I don't even know how Dick's are in business still. It's like a Best Buy of sporting goods.

The Minnesota Vikings' brand-new stadium — US Bank Stadium, which is set to open this coming July — has suffered serious water damage that will require about 30 percent of the exterior panels to be removed to fix the problem, according to KMSP-TV, Fox 9 in the Twin Cities.

The damage was linked to leaks in the stadium's snow gutter system and is expected to cost about $3 million to $4 million, a cost that will be covered by stadium contractors and designers. Although the signature metal exterior panels were not damaged, the US Bank Stadium signs must be taken down to get to the damaged vapor barrier, which requires fixing.

As of Feb. 16, the stadium was deemed to be 90 percent completed by project engineers and stadium officials.

Shutdown Corner toured the stadium showroom, exterior and media center this past August, and among the featured elements that Vikings officials and stadium designers were most proud of were the exterior snow gutters, which were designed to sluice melted snow after it has been heated above freezing from the roof. The water is then intended to be funneled out via a catch basin and down into gutters below the stadium.

The building costs of the future home of Super Bowl LII on February 4, 2018 already are more than $16 million over initial projections, and that number could reach more than $29 million by July when it's set to open.

It's a fascinating, quirky, state-of-the-art stadium that has terrific qualities to it — including few right angles on the exterior, an intentional design idea — and could end up being one of the jewels of this new generation of NFL stadiums being built.

But clearly this is also a concern — not just for the cost and possible delay in building progress, but also from a it-snows-a-lot-in-Minnesota standpoint. Hopefully, these fixes will prevent any future problems once the Vikings fully move into their new digs.

Black 47 -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins Fans (2/20/2016 2:58:48 PM)

Leaky roof? $4 million in damage? Poetic justice. Built a roofed stadium in 1982. Moved indoors and flushed the proud heritage of our franchise down the toilet. Never made one Superbowl the 30 years they played indoors. Had a chance to right a wrong and go back to open air........and made the same mistake again. And to add insult to injury, a construction worker fell off the roof and died.

And sure, whatever, the state insisted on a roofed stadium, fooey. Zygi should have spurned the state and built it himself. Minus the roof, it probably wouldn't have cost much more than the team's contribution to the billion dollar palace anyway. Only in Minnesota. Lost the North Stars. To get hockey back we paid many times more than what it would have cost to keep the team we already had. And lost our mythic team logo in the process. Now we had a chance to right a wrong and move back outdoors. Blew it again. Only in Minnesota. Leaky roof? Damn right thats poetic justice.

Black 47 -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins Fans (2/20/2016 3:06:24 PM)

Exactly

Lynn G. -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins Fans (2/20/2016 7:12:55 PM)

That description of what it takes to get a team back is NOT only in Minnesota (but you knew that). Heck, St. Louis just lost the team that they had to pay through the nose for (including tearing down a brand new hotel to build them a stadium, and now they lost that team too.

All kinds of examples out there.

Black 47 -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins Fans (2/20/2016 11:11:41 PM)

I probably didn't state that as clearly as I could have. It cost Minnesota much more to get another team than it would have cost them to keep the team they had. I know there were other factors involved, but at the end the day, had we just made the modest improvements to the Met Center that the team wanted, they would have stayed. I loved that old place, but it needed improvements. Every time the team asked, the MSC told them to stick it in their ear.

Lynn G. -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins Fans (2/21/2016 11:50:04 AM)

Got it.

djskillz -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins Fans (2/22/2016 12:18:29 AM)

I can't disagree more on the roof. Ya, sure I like outdoor football too. But from a logistics/longterm standpoint you almost have to have a roof. Seriously, you're talking about a max of 13 days a year where the Vikings have home games, including preseason. There are a LOT of other events/uses for the stadium than that. I'd rather "lose the outdoors" and have Final 4's, world championships, a Super Bowl, concerts, etc. there than worry about those 13 days. Besides, I believe the statistic was that for Indianapolis (Lucas Oil, which is a really nice stadium; I'll be there Saturday for the combine) they've had their roof open for 9 football games in 5 years. Something like that. And that's Indianapolis, not Minneapolis. Again, I like outdoor football. But there are a lot of other considerations. I think it'd be a major mistake had they gone WITHOUT a roof.

For the Twins, I'm the polar opposite. Baseball is not meant to be played in a dome, ever. Couldn't be happier or prouder of Target Field. Beautiful ballpark, one of the best in the game.

More proof that roofing is a yearly project.
Gotta stay on top of it.
No matter how much crap you catch for doing so .....

Well, if you layer the shingles starting from the downside of the roof and work your way up rather than the SMF approach of beginning at the top and layering on the way down, maybe your roof would last more than one year.
[:D]

Oh, the crap just keeps on coming.[;)]
