And I'm fine with that, depending on what he does for the cause between now and then.

Heard Schefter this morning; said when he talked with Spielman about the possibility of AD not playing another down for the Vikings he outright laughed and said "he's meant a lot to this organization over the years." Basically saying that AD had done so much for them over the years they were going to see this through.

I'm okay with that IF AD backs up his actions and makes some major changes for the good of the cause and his children.

Dave E -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (9/17/2014 11:19:16 AM)

Honestly, I'd like to see the Wilfs cut him to make a statement about the kind of organization the Vikings are. Obviously, that won't happen.

djskillz -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (9/17/2014 11:19:53 AM)

As bad as it is, I don't mind a second chance. Someone is going to give that to him. May as well be us.

They've already demonstrated what kind of org they are with the fiasco the last couple days. Why would being utterly stupid by cutting him change that?

He's not done as a player, you cut him, any team can sign him...Including the Patriots, Packers, Bears, Kitties, Cowboys...

Let's not be hasty just to show everyone what kind of org the Vikings are.

Let's see how the legal thing plays out, and give AD a chance at redemption.

Stacey King -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (9/17/2014 11:22:11 AM)

I think a Jerry Jones and a AP going home moment is happening this off season.

Jones has no qualms going out of his way to say Josh Brent can come back so AP will be a no doubter.

Plus he will need it as the luster is definitely off America's team after so many 8-8 seasons in a row and a defense this season that will make 8-8 seem like a good season.

His second guessing himself over Manziel and the spotlight that would have brought the team adds to the appeal bringing AP home will bring.

Too bad it will not be a reverse Herschal type trade. Multiple # 1's. Nope.

Just AP on a restructured contract to Dallas for a #1 (if we are lucky) and a future #3 that can become a #2.

Could even be for a #2 and another future conditional pick that could rise to a #2.

Bingo.

Don't give that second chance to the Patriots or Pukers or Cowpukes.

Man I hope not Stacey. That would suck.

So what happens from here? I"m betting:

Community service plea deal for Peterson (may not even get to that point until the offseason).
Finishes off the year on the commissioner's exemption list.
Lots of apologizing, new education programs, PSA's from AD in the offseason.
Back on the team next season under a reworked 2-3 year deal lowering his contract for 2015.

Yep, that sounds about right. My guess is he angles for a plea deal w/ no jail time as quickly as possible -- then, the NFL can suspend this year and he can be good to go for 2015. No way the Wilfs dump him (unless they think keeping him will cost them money), so I agree, reworked deal and he'll be the starting RB a year from now.

I think there are a few things in a plea bargin that needs to be addressed. One, counceling which he has already, community service, PSA about how not to discipline children, (a teaching moment).

Yes, god forbid we take a leadership stance or consider anything other than the W-L record...[&o]

Take a leadership stance and allow a guy a chance at redemption...God Forbid indeed. All your "leadership stance" does is allow AD to go to another organization and help them win. It wont send any message other than "Vikings foolishly release immensely talented player to appease uppity fans."

Honestly, if a Wilf told me the sky was blue, I would go verify.

11:05 AMMark Craig

@markcraignf lMark Wilf on whether sponsors played a role: "Absolutely not."

A team that backpedals like this should really be better at developing cornerbacks

Trekgeekscott -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (9/17/2014 11:54:11 AM)

Seriously,

Adrian Peterson has much to show us yet regarding this...which is why I want to see the legal case play out, see how he handles and accepts the punishment the court metes out. But once that is completed, he deserves a chance to redeem himself. He WILL get that chance somewhere in the NFL. Vikings are in a very good position to restructure his deal to a much smaller salary. Why not keep him and take advantage of his desire for redemption?

Ray Rice will eventually get a chance too and somebody will likely give it to him.

I don't condone disciplining a child the way he did, and he will be punished for it, once he's been punished it's time for him to get a second chance. You'd rather he get that for the Packers?

Dave E -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (9/17/2014 11:56:14 AM)

If the Packers want to win with child beaters, more power to them. Frankly, I don't think that Ted Thompson would go near him in a million years after this.

I don't need angels on my team. Randy Moss was and is my favorite Viking of all time (also, the best). But I don't want to cheer for guys who beat their wives and/or children. That's just me.

Trekgeekscott -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (9/17/2014 11:58:21 AM)

And nobody ever deserves a chance at redemption?

Please.

Dave E -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (9/17/2014 11:59:07 AM)

I'm sorry, how is not playing for the Vikings denying this guy any shot at "redemption?" Please.

You've decided that he can't ever play for your favorite team again. You deny him the chance to play for the team that drafted him. You are denying him the chance to redeem himself where his career began. You are showing quite clearly that you are unwilling/unable to forgive him of this no matter what steps he takes. You're taking a NIMBY approach to his redemption.

You aren't giving him a chance to redeem himself in your eyes.

Good for you.

MDK -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (9/17/2014 12:05:39 PM)

I think visitation rules will be put into place for Adrian.....no unsupervised visitation by his children until they are of a certain age.

I don't know what the rules were in place for visitation but whatever they were, they will be ramped up.

Lots of strawmen there, but OK.

I understand your position: wins and losses are more important than making any sort of statement on behalf of the organization as to how we go about winning. That's your right. I think it's the same position the Wilfs are taking, it's the way that NFL teams have always responded, and I think it is gutless.

Dave E -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (9/17/2014 12:13:01 PM)

To think that not allowing a guy to finish his career with the team that drafted him is too big of a punishment for beating up a four year old kid...wow. Just wow.

I think it's gutless to cut him loose.

I think it's gutless to turn you back on a guy if he's honestly trying to fix things and redeem himself.

Dave E -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (9/17/2014 12:27:17 PM)

Well (like AD, funnily enough), I believe in consequences for actions.

Ah, the twisting of words begins.

I believe in giving people second chances. If AD is contrite. Does the punishment that the courts deem necessary, and makes an honest effort to redeem himself...he deserves the second chance.

What is wow is how you refuse for that chance to be given here.

I believe most people are capable of changing themselves and redeeming themselves, and I have no problem with Adrian getting that chance here.

Now if he is unrepentant...I'm right there with you. If he balks at suspension or complains he's being cheated or treated badly because of suspension and balks at the sentence given by the court...then I'm right there with you.

IOW. If he takes his punishment, Changes with counselling, and serves his time. He should get his chance here as much as anyplace else.

and he's already facing those consequences.

The court is going to give him some consequences, as is the NFL.

Why do you think you need to pile on some more consequences?
