Ooops, never mind, I just saw curently on or no longer on the ballot. ....

djskillz -> RE: Baseball Trivia (1/7/2010 11:39:09 AM)

Yep, he's gotta be one. Is Palmeiro eligible yet?

My initial guess was Andres Gallaraga along with McGriff, but he falls ONE HR shy.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Baseball Trivia (1/7/2010 12:19:12 PM)

I was going to go with KONG.

But sheesh, 442 dingers were not quite a third of Kingman's 1500+ hits.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Baseball Trivia (1/7/2010 12:21:31 PM)

Not Jose Canseco either. He finished with 1800 + Hits.

Read one rip on Dawson. 30 HRs and 100 rbi's 3 times each.

McGriff Drove in 100 + 8 times, 30 + 10 times.

So how is Dawson better? Oh, yeah, one, a Cubbie, 2, a former MVP. [&o]

Mr. Ed -> RE: Baseball Trivia (1/7/2010 12:24:40 PM)

Wow, found the answer by doing some research.

Darrell Evans.

Never even got a sniff of the HOF.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Baseball Trivia (1/7/2010 12:25:30 PM)

So is Sheff a HOF? 500 + Dingers should be an automatic, right?

Besides being a me me me player, what else has he done to deserve HOF consideration?

Yup. Surprising, eh? Rec'd 1.7% HOF vote or something.

Yet his less talented teammate is in because he was "feared." [&o]

??

Are you thinking of Dwight Evans, referring to the 'feared' Jim Rice?

Darrell Evans had one mostrous year in ATL(41HR/104RBI/124BB) and some others that weren't too bad.

He must be....none of Darrell's premier teammates (Whitaker, Trammel or Morris) are in the HOF.

djskillz -> RE: Baseball Trivia (1/7/2010 2:55:05 PM)

Still think both Trammel and Larkin should be in. They're pretty similar.

Dave E -> RE: Baseball Trivia (1/7/2010 4:10:03 PM)

Oops, yes, mixing up Dewey and Darrell.

Dave E -> RE: Baseball Trivia (1/7/2010 4:17:10 PM)

I would note that I still don't understand why Rice is in yet Dwight Evans got no consideration. Stats are awfully similar, and Evans was a much better fielder, if memory serves.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Baseball Trivia (1/7/2010 4:20:31 PM)

Correct. But Dwight Evans had some real lean years early in his career.

At the end of the day, I don't think either should be in -- but with Rice and Dawson in, the door has been opened for the argument that Evans should be in as well.

djskillz -> RE: Baseball Trivia (1/7/2010 4:32:47 PM)

Or Dale Murphy?

So.Mn.Fan -> RE: Baseball Trivia (1/7/2010 4:34:40 PM)

I remember Evans as the first guy who raised eyebrows with his HR totals from the second-base spot.
Had a year (think its covered above) in Atlanta that made every fan go .... "whaaa?"
It was Brady Anderson before Brady Anderson.
He was always a tough out, always DROVE the ball, and played a solid defense.
He's also a part of my favorite all-time Twins play ... being picked off third by The Rat, right after the broadcast crew proclaimed ... "here come the TIGERS!"
12 seconds later ... they were toast.

So.Mn.Fan -> RE: Baseball Trivia (1/7/2010 4:36:24 PM)

Murph might be my guy in the "he should be in" horserace, Skilz.
Had it all, imo .... including the moral integrity and respect for the game.

I have is Braves baseball card after that monster year. Was an awesome year.

Dawson and Rice have now made it the Hall of Very Good.

If some of these guys can't get in now, it's a joke.

The Jer -> RE: Baseball Trivia (6/1/2010 4:26:48 PM)

[:o]

twinsfan -> RE: Baseball Trivia (6/2/2010 1:12:39 PM)

This player hit a 643 foot home run in Detroit Brigg's Stadium in 1960, for the longest home run ever recorded.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Baseball Trivia (6/2/2010 1:49:35 PM)

Frank Howard. After Steroids.

Guest -> RE: Baseball Trivia (6/2/2010 1:52:44 PM)

The answer is a rather obvious choice for the time and era.....but even if it has presumably been verified, so many home runs have never nor can be properly measured.

twinsfan -> RE: Baseball Trivia (6/2/2010 1:54:00 PM)

Name the only two players in the last 57 years to have at least 16 total bases in a game without hitting four homeruns in the game.
