Matt Dahl -> RE: Baseball Trivia (1/16/2009 2:46:21 PM)

I looked up #4 in runs a long time ago, so I'm not gonna answer.  I was surprised he had 34 more runs than Oliva.  Oliva is #5 in runs.

djskillz -> RE: Baseball Trivia (1/16/2009 2:49:20 PM)

Yep, "Big Game; big press conference quote" Hunter is #7, ahead of Carew.  [:-]

Still gotta get #4 on runs, Ed.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Baseball Trivia (1/16/2009 2:52:54 PM)

Ida Know

djskillz -> RE: Baseball Trivia (1/16/2009 3:10:52 PM)

OK, Ed, you get a hint too:

#4 on the career list is a guy who, when you look at him, doesn't exactly inspire the word "run".

Pete M. -> RE: Baseball Trivia (1/16/2009 3:55:58 PM)

Kent Hrbek.

djskillz -> RE: Baseball Trivia (1/16/2009 3:57:32 PM)

Thataboy, Pete.

Guest -> RE: Baseball Trivia (1/16/2009 4:03:41 PM)

On the OPS, I had posted

Killer
Mauer
Mack
Carew
Oliva

The answer was
Killer
Mauer
Mack
Hrbek
Morneau

I  asked Matt about the adjusted OPS+

The list is then

Killer
Carew
Oliva
Mack
Mauer

My question is still out there.....why did Shane Mack sign a contract to play in Japan?????

djskillz -> RE: Baseball Trivia (1/16/2009 4:06:36 PM)

I wonder if Mack was a roids guy?

Just a blind thought.

Todd G -> RE: Baseball Trivia (1/16/2009 5:35:13 PM)

All I remember about Shane Mack leaving is that he went to Japan after his best year here.

he was selected in the Rule 5 Draft by the Minnesota Twins where he starred from 1990-1994. Notably, he was a key component of the Twins' 1991 World Series championship team. In 1992 Mack had his best year, hitting .315 (fifth in the American League), scoring 75 runs (seventh in the AL), stealing 24 bases, driving in 75 runs, and hitting 16 home runs.
After a three-year contract playing in Japan for the Yomiuri Giants (1994-1997), he returned to the United States to play ball for the Boston Red Sox in the 1997 season. Mack played for the Oakland Athletics and the Kansas City Royals in 1998 before retiring.

YEAR   PA   HR  BA    OBP   SLG
1990   313   8   326   392   460
1991   442  18  310   363   529
1992   600  16  315   394   467
1993   503  10  276   335   412
1994   303  15  333   402   564

Thanks Todd for the info.....I still don't understand why he left and signed with Japan....I wonder if the Twins made a counter offer.

The Twins have dug deep to counter offers when it has involved key players they want to retain........Puckett, Hrbek, Mauer and Morneau (I know...before FA for the last two).

I wonder how the Twins viewed Mack when he left.....he compiled awesome numbers for the team and left when he was in his prime.  What did they (the Twins) do to try and retain Mack?

djskillz -> RE: Baseball Trivia (1/17/2009 12:22:21 PM)

That really is an interesting question, Miles.  I hope someone can answer it.

Did the Twins trade Bert to the Rangers ?

I recall the Tribune had a picture of Bert flipping off the crownd at the Met
as he walked off the mound after one of his last starts for the Twins.
(He was getting booed pretty hard and reacted)

Calvin Griffith found a nickel on the ground and wouldn't share it?

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Baseball Trivia (7/23/2009 3:40:30 PM)

Bret Favre announces for the first time that he's retiring?  Oh sorry, this is baseball. [:o]

Maybe he did it there as well.

I am 99% sure he flipped off the crowd as a Twin.

Matt Dahl -> RE: Baseball Trivia (7/23/2009 3:41:39 PM)

Time for a hint. It involves Lyman Bostock.

Lymon Bostock flipped off Bert Blyleven?

Matt Dahl -> RE: Baseball Trivia (7/23/2009 5:54:06 PM)

Lyman Bostock hit for the cycle.

Is he a free agent? We could use him.

If he hadn't been shot and killed, they probably could.
