So, still missing 7 on the "times on base" list. But only missing 4 on the OPS+ list.

Actually, my bad, make that 5. 10th place is a tie between AGonz and one other player. So you technically have 6 out of 11 there.

Dave E -> RE: Baseball Trivia (7/14/2011 7:16:46 PM)

Oh, misread the initial email on the total bases.

Han Ram for OPS+? Utley?

I'll add Chipper to the total bases list. He doesn't make the OPS+ list, does he?

djskillz -> RE: Baseball Trivia (7/14/2011 7:19:00 PM)

Chipper is 3rd on that list, correct. 6 more.

OPS+ Chipper is tied with Vlad for 8th, correct.

HanRam and Utley both finish behind Mauer and miss the cut though.

4 to go on that list.

twinsfan -> RE: Baseball Trivia (7/15/2011 12:37:04 AM)

Omar Vizquel (times on base list)

djskillz -> RE: Baseball Trivia (7/15/2011 9:35:11 AM)

Correct. #5 on that list.

Keep in mind, again, that I'm excluding Manny from both lists, which he would rank highly on. I believe he officially filed his retirement papers so he should not be eligible.

More career HR - Joe Mauer or Rod Carew?

Where'd you come up with this one? [:D]

Note: Comparing a leadoff/#2 hitter in the 70's and a #3 hitter in th 2000's isn't generally a fair comparison. [;)]

Not sure that's true in 2012. Offense is non-existent this year.

Todd G -> RE: Baseball Trivia (6/18/2012 11:21:37 AM)

Carew has played for over twice as long a Mauer to date.  Apples / Oranges.  Also, Mauer is miscast as a 3 hitter, he should be a 2.  That's on Gardy.

But Mauer does his best and soldiers on and do the best for his team in a tough situation.

Warrior.

MVP season

Carew was the #3 hitter, if my memory is correct.

I don't remember.

Pretty sure a lot of the lineup looked like this a lot in 78

twinsfan -> RE: Baseball Trivia (6/18/2012 11:41:23 AM)

The Twins got rid of Carew at the right time. He went from a string of 5-7 seasons of MVP-type play, down to a merely good player for the rest of his career as an Angel.

5 games in 3 days (Aug 11-13) vs. Oakland. Wonder what that was all about.

twinsfan -> RE: Baseball Trivia (6/18/2012 11:49:24 AM)

Wynegar caught 4 of the 5 games, including both games of the Sunday double-header. How is that possible?

twinsfan -> RE: Baseball Trivia (6/18/2012 11:49:36 AM)

Must be a misprint.

Dave E -> RE: Baseball Trivia (6/18/2012 11:51:36 AM)

DreW would handle all five.

twinsfan -> RE: Baseball Trivia (6/18/2012 11:53:29 AM)

On August 13th, 1978, the closest available weather station to Minneapolis, MN (MINNEAPOLIS-ST PAUL INT'L ARP, MN), reported the following conditions:

I agree he would jump at the chance.

What would Joe do if told he was gonna catch both games of a double-header in 94 degree heat?

[&:][&:] What would Dick and Bert do?

twinsfan -> RE: Baseball Trivia (6/18/2012 11:58:03 AM)

Dick would literally start carving Joe's HOF plaque on the air.

twinsfan -> RE: Baseball Trivia (6/18/2012 12:07:43 PM)

Here's an exercise that will hopefully help some of you appreciate Joe Mauer.

Off the top of your head, name the best catcher in the history of each of these franchises:

Colorado Rockies

Milwaukee Brewers

KC Royals

Houston Astros

Florida Marlins

Baltimore Orioles

Atlanta Braves

Arizona Diamondbacks

Philadelphia Phillies

Seattle Mariners

Tampa Bay Rays

Toronto Blue Jays
