Terrible guess.  Or did you mean Larry Andersen?

Both terrible guesses.

They were both pitchers.  I asked for batters.

K/9

twinsfan -> RE: Baseball Trivia (6/6/2013 11:14:34 PM)

Correct.

Scott Baker would be 85th all-time, but he needs 42 more innings to qualify (minimum of 1,000 innings).

Matt Garza ranks 55th all-time. But he wasn't good enough for the Twins.

twinsfan -> RE: Baseball Trivia (6/6/2013 11:16:07 PM)

How many would have guessed that Bruce Chen has a better K/9 than Bert Blyleven?

Sign o' the times.

The one that struck me was Hoffman.

Bert logged a pile of innings. Chen barely gets 7 in. Huge difference.

Also, batters tend to be free swingers much more now than in the 70s/80s.

You don't remember the 70s! [:D]

Neither do Miles or SMF, but that's a different matter entirely. [&:]

Which MLB player had the best OBP over the years 1985-1989?

twinsfan -> RE: Baseball Trivia (6/7/2013 10:48:40 AM)

True or False?

The home team, which is using the third base dugout, is batting. The batter hits a high fly ball that will come down near the third base dugout. The third baseman goes over and it appears he will easily catch the ball. However, he trips over two fielding gloves that were illegally left lying on live ball territory by the home team, and he fails to catch the ball. The batter is out due to interference by the home team players.

Hint:  Not only did he have the best OBP over that time, he was the league leader in every individual year during that time as well.
