I saw Byung-Ho Park draw a walk in a KBO game the other day. I recognized him before they even put his name on the screen.

Did anybody catch this?

KYLE GIBSON
SP, TEXAS RANGERS

Levi Weaver of The Athletic notes that Kyle Gibson has ulcerative colitis and is not required to participate in MLB's planned 60-game season.
Ulcerative colitis is an autoimmune disorder, which makes Gibson a "high risk" individual amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. There doesn't seem to be an exact deadline for players to decide whether they want to participate or not, but we should start hearing some buzz soon with MLB camps due to open this time next week. Gibson signed a three-year, $28 million free agent contract with the Rangers this past winter and was supposed to join Mike Minor, Lance Lynn, Corey Kluber, and Jordan Lyles in a stout Texas rotation.

Nice break for the Rangers.

Pretty messed up. Gibson was a good pitcher for us and should be for them if he can get the illness under control.

Apology accepted. I admit to liking inappropriate material like Dice Clay.

You know how you get that?

Nibbling.
Around the plate, with two strikes, 2 and 0.
Nibbling causes ulcerative colitis

Prove me wrong.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Former Twins News (8/2/2020 9:47:22 PM)

Former #MNTwins starter Tommy Milone went today again for the #Orioles:

5.0 IP 6 H 1 R 1 ER 0 BB 8 K

All against a very lauded #Rays team.

Always good to be LH and breathing. Many more baseball lives than RH guys.

On this date: Niekro searched and ejected for nail file
On Aug. 3, 1987, pitcher Joe Niekro was searched on the mound and ejected after he was found to have an emery board in his pocket.

FREE JOE NIEKRO!

I remember that. Watching a base ump's head/eyes follow the emery board as it flew away from Niekro.

That was a true Theatre of the Absurd moment. Niekro could have just left it in his pocket and never been caught. I doubt very much if umps had the power or desire to fish through his pockets. But he had to make a big show of it, turn his pockets inside out and oh so casually (so he thought) flick the file away...with the ump staring intently at him. What a great plan!

On top of that Niekro sucked in 87 anyway so I didn't even care if they booted him, which made it even more entertaining.

That's what I remember too … the sheep going "oh no!!!! We might lose Joe for some games"
While the rest of us were going … we good with that.

He and Les Straker … two remarkably bad WS champions.

Les was the #3 starter on a world championship team [:-]

That staff was basically Viola, Bert, El Gasolino, Reardon, and a whole lot of crap.
