Status: online 		I know Maya left the door open in the Robin Roberts interview that she could play again, but it really sounds like she's done.

She clearly has a greater calling now than basketball. Between her ministry and her celebrity/standing, she really sounds like all she wants to do is fight for other people.

And if so, good for her. There really is nothing left for her to do on the court:

When she first announced her hiatus, I assumed that it was a case of burnout and she needed a year to get her bearings again. Now, it's pretty obvious that she has other things in life that are a lot more important than basketball. Best of luck to her.

Maybe I'm skeptical and not so romantic, but a relationship based on him being in prison and her getting him out doesn't sound like the firmest foundation. She could find out quickly that they don't have much in common.

Sounds like wishful thinking.

She really seems fully dedicated to her non-profit, Win With Justice, and her ministry.

The pair are currently working to educate the American public about the voting process ahead this year's Presidential election and plan to continue campaigning for criminal justice reform.

In their interview they spoke about meeting with prosecutors all around the country and they have a growing list of wrongful imprisonment cases they want to help with.

Status: online 		Meanwhile Crystal Dangerfield, the newly crowned rookie of the year, stepped up huge in the second half. Dangerfield had an ugly first two quarters but continued to pick up steam as the game went on. She scored 15 of her 17 points in the second half including nine in the fourth quarter. Dangerfield continued to be aggressive with her shot and gave her team the offense it needed to win the game. To a large degree, this is exactly the type of play that won her the rookie of the year award, yet somehow it continues to be surprising to see a first year player chosen in the second round perform so deftly in the clutch. Dangerfield summed it up nicely after the game.

“This was a win or go home situation and weren’t ready to go home just yet.”

Cheryl Reeve is the 2020 WNBA Coach of the Year

Cheryl Reeve was named WNBA Coach of the Year on Thursday after leading the Minnesota Lynx to a 14-8 record and first-round bye in the playoffs.

The Lynx were not expected to finish a top-4 seed with a roster of rookies and role players amid rebuild. Even with their best player, Sylvia Fowles, out for much of the season with a calf injury, Reeve orchestrated a phenomenal campaign.

Napheesa Collier stepped into a leadership role with Fowles out, but Reeve was also able to get the best out of Rookie of the Year Crystal Dangerfield, who was picked in the second round of this year’s draft. Reeve also brought in 3-point specialist Rachel Banham and second-year player Bridget Carleton, who both had breakout seasons.

Collier, Dangerfield, Banham, Carleton, Damiris Dantas and Lexie Brown each scored 25-plus points for the Lynx at least once this season, helping the Lynx set a WNBA record with six players accomplishing the feat. Minnesota also came back from down double digits to win games six times.

As a head coach, Reeve has won four WNBA championships — all with the Lynx — and she has the highest winning percentage in league history. This is her third Coach of the Year award; she also won in 2011 and 2016.

The only other coaches to win the WNBA Coach of the Year award three times are Van Chancellor of the now-defunct Houston Comets, and Mike Thibault of the Washington Mystics.

Minnesota Lynx point guard Crystal Dangerfield was named the 2020 WNBA Rookie of the Year on Thursday, officially becoming the first second-round draft pick to win the award.

Dangerfield was drafted at No. 16 overall. With 44 votes, she beat out No. 4 pick Chennedy Carter (two votes) and No. 2 pick Satou Sabally (one vote).

Dangerfield was a great leader and 3-point threat at Connecticut and translated that to the WNBA in her first season. With star center Sylvia Fowles out for much of the season due to injury, Dangerfield picked up a great deal of the scoring load with the confidence of a more seasoned player.

In 30.0 minutes per contest in the 22-game season, Dangerfield:

• Averaged 16.2 points (11th in the league) and 3.6 assists (second among rookies)
• Shot 92.2 percent form the free throw line (third in the league)
• Scored in double figures 19 times
• Notched at least 20 points eight times
• Had at least four assists 12 times
• Recorded a season-high of 29 points on Aug. 9 against the Los Angeles Sparks
• Was named WNBA Rookie of the Month for August and September

Dangerfield is the fifth member of the Lynx to win Rookie of the Year. Betty Lennox (1999), Seimone Augustus (2006), Maya Moore (2011) and Dangerfield's former college and current pro teammate Napheesa Collier (2019) won the award before her.

Status: online 		Because of Dangerfield and Collier, its easy to forget that Damiris Dantas had a breakout year for the Lynx.

13 PPG, 6 RPG, 46% overall and 43% from 3.

22 points, 8 rebounds and terrific defense last night. She's the reason the game was within reach late.

She was a key component of the Fowles trade and now she's a key member of the team in her 2nd stint with the Lynx.

Lost in the shuffle was this outstanding piece of news from last week: Lynx forward Damiris Dantas signed a multiyear contract extension on Thursday, the team announced. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

They're the closest thing to the Spurs in basketball.

This could actually work to the Lynx favor. Fowles was questionable for game 1. This will give her calf more time to rest.

I remember two years ago, Reeve saying that teams wouldn't trade with her going into the draft because they were determined not to help the Lynx in any way. As luck would have it, the player she desperately wanted, Collier, fell into her lap at #6.
