Back to basketball...Olivia Miles had a monster game last night. She broke the single game rookie 3pt record with 8 against GS. Her line was 28 pts, 4 reb, 7 ast, 3 blocks with only 1 turnover. Threes were the only real issue in her game this year. She had only two before last night. I would also say he defense is way better than advertised coming out of college.

Lost in the Miles hype is this insane stat:

In just 10 games, Nia Coffey broke the season record for blocked 3 point shots.

Bridget Carlton was a greatly underappreciated defensive / glue player for the Lynx. Coffey is even better in that role IMO.

Maybe Sweens or DL know.....was she that great on defense before coming here?

Yes, but more of a wing than a big like Coffey.

Carlton is a tremendous POA defender that can handle being switched onto smaller bigs.

Yep. Both are versatile POA and team defenders, but Coffey can better handle the physicality on the inside.

Seems her offense was unlocked also.

I didn't know it was 3 weeks away. But it's possible. Calf (soft issue) injuries can be lingery. Just ask Josh Donaldson.

I'm not a BB guy per se. Hockey is my #1 for the winter sports but I've played enough pickup ball to know the sport well enough. I say that to say, I'm no expert. What I can say, with 100& certainty, the Lynx are damn fun to watch.

It's halftime against Dallas and I have no idea how it will end. What seems crazy is that when she get hot, McBride can drop a pebble in a coke can from 40+ feet out

And it finished with a win and K-Mac scoring 43 and setting the WNBA record for 3's in a game with 10. What made that all the more impressive that she was guarding Paige Bueckers all game. Olivia Miles edged Bueckers in the head to head match up with 20 points and 13 assists.

Went to the last Lynx/Fever game at The TC. OMG, will never do that again without ear plugs - and Im not talking about the fan noise, either. Enjoyed the bus ride from the MOA to the stadium. I had no idea the trains were being (serviced?). Been awhile since Ive been to the Mpls.

Well, we went from a pretty sure thing to win it all.....to a huge question mark. Mostly because of a stupid late-season league stoppage to play in some weird tourney that the US could have won with college kids. Lame. I'm not sure we get by NY in the 1st round with the way we've been playing.

There was never a point when the Lynx were a sure thing to win it all. Despite the record there are a lot of other good teams in that top 8. This is easily the strongest playoff field in league history. The Libert are the 8th seed and they are two years removed from a league championship and have two former MVP on their roster. The Aces have the best player in women's basketball and a HOF point guard. The Fever with Clark, Mitchell and Boston. Atlanta, Washington Dallas and Golden State have built really good young teams.

The FIBA had nothing to do with anything. The Lynx had a couple of bad losses ahead of the tournament and a few players said their bodies needed the break.

I have been. Didn't know her contract status. I heard rumblings about trading Collier not long ago, so I assumed she was under contract for longer. Sorry about that.

Olivia Miles was unanimously voted as the WNBA Rookie of the Year, claiming every single one of the first-place votes in a feat that fails to highlight just how excellent Miles was as a rookie. MVP is the only award race that hasn’t been officially made public yet, but she may end up with some awards there in a truly insane show of hitting the ground running.

he goggled superstar averaged 19 points, 8.6 assists, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.3 steals across 31 minutes, while shooting 49-39-87 splits. Miles set record after record across the season, including the record for total points and games with at least 20 points by a rookie.

She filled the record books in other categories as well, finishing second in total assists, third in points per game, and fifth in assists per game across every single rookie season in the league’s history.

Head Coach Cheryl Reeve won Coach of the Year as well, her fifth such win, increasing her own league record after winning the award in 2011, 2016, 2020, and 2024. She also did all of this while standing ten-toes-down with marginalized people across the country, proving that taking a stand does not mess with career accolades at all (yes, your favorite players should be speaking up too).

While Reeve didn’t nearly pull off the unanimous voting that Miles did, she won 74 of 108 total first-place votes. Considering she’s been the Lynx head coach for 17 seasons, that means that she has won Coach of the Year in just under a third of her years as running the ship.

Unfortunately, right now Olivia keeps getting her butt kicked by Pauline Astier of the Liberty. Astier seems to be able disrupt Miles game in a way nobody else can.
