They have benefited from playing a lot of their games at home as of late, I think. I wish I had NBA TV.

Last couple of games, I haven't seen much more than highlights, but they do seem to be developing a little "swagger".
Gotta have that.

Lynx were leading 78-65 with three minutes to go. Sparks go on 9-0 run to within four with one minute to go. Lynx need to put this one away.

Lynx win 84-78. Whalen, Augustus & Brunson with big games. http://www.wnba.com/games/20110807/MINLAS/gameinfo.html

Now it's a 9 gm win streak. They've won 11 of last 12. Now 9-2 at home ; 7-2 on the road.

Lots of mins by the starter, not much help from the bench tonight. But they keep finding ways to win.
Now on to Phoenix for a game Tue.

Nice win.
Glad to see Whalen being a big part of it all.
Starting to pile up a pretty nice career at the highest level.

I see Ms Whalen had a good night, with 24

Whalen, playing in her 250th game, moved within seven points of 3,000 for her career. When she reaches the milestone she will become the sixth player in WNBA history with 3,000 points, 1,000 rebounds and 1,000 assists.

NEW YORK, August 8, 2011 - Tina Charles of the Connecticut Sun and Seimone Augustus of the Minnesota Lynx were named the WNBA’s Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for regular season games played Monday, August 1 through Sunday, August 7.

Augustus guided Minnesota to a 3-0 record on the week, helping the Lynx extend their franchise-record winning streak to nine games and their league-best record to 16-4. In the process, the No. 1 overall pick in 2006, ranked third in the Western Conference in scoring with 16.7 points per game while shooting 19-of-40 (.475) from the field and contributing 4.7 rebounds per game.

The Western Conference Player of the Month in July, Augustus picked up where she left off. After registering 21 points, four rebounds and a pair of assists to open the week in a 90-73 victory over their conference rival, the Phoenix Mercury, she closed the week with 19 points, seven boards, three assists, two steals and a block in an 84-78 win at Los Angeles. In between, Augustus had a 10-point, three-rebound, two-block outing in a last-second win over another conference rival, the San Antonio Silver Stars. It marked the second straight game in which Minnesota downed San Antonio with late heroics.

On the season, Augustus is averaging 16.4 points (third in the West, eighth in the WNBA) and 3.9 rebounds. The sixth-year star’s .495 field goal percentage is sixth best in the West and tied for 12th in the league.

For the LSU product, who leads the Lynx in scoring, it marks her second Player of the Week honor this season, and the sixth of her career.

Other candidates for WNBA Players of the Week were Atlanta’s Angel McCoughtry, Chicago’s Sylvia Fowles, Connecticut’s Renee Montgomery, Minnesota’s Taj McWilliams-Franklin and Lindsay Whalen, New York’s Cappie Pondexter, Phoenix’s Diana Taurasi, Tulsa’s Tiffany Jackson, and Washington’s Matee Ajavon.

OK time to jinx the Lynx. The record for longest winning streak in WNBA history is the legendary Houston Comets of 1998 with 15 in a row. Only six to go.

Yes, you jinxed them! Although Maya Moore scored a lot of points.

It was a game that highlighted the Lynx's 2 biggest weaknesses.

When you have 3 perimeter players score 69 points on an eFG% of 72%, you should win games. But we got ZERO points from our bench.

Free Throws. We actually hit 77% of them this time, but only got to the line 13 times. We made 9 fewer than PHX attempted.

I thought that the Lynx had such great depth, that they had 11 players who could be starters. That's what I heard their assistant coach, Peterson, say.

Peterson lied - or at least heavily exaggerated.

The Lynx have an absolutely killer starting line-up, but their bench right now is mostly potential, not production.

They're walking a dangerous line with all 5 starters averaging 30 minutes. They really can't afford an injury.

The bench has averaged 20 points and 10 rebounds per game in a combined 50 minutes average per game. If they had starters minutes, then they would average around 12 points and 6 rebounds per game. That would make them the fourth best scorer on the team and the third best rebounder per game. Yesterday's game, I believe, was atypical for how they have been performing thus far in the season.

So its a good thing that our 6 bench players combined would be our 4th highest scoring player?

The problem is we have no one on the bench right now that we can count on game in and game out. Wiggins is scoring 6 per game, but has been madly inconsistent. No one else is even averaging 4. All 5 of our starters are in the top 25 in minutes per game.

Yesterday was only atypical because they actually scored 0 points and every bench player was a "-" in "+/-". But they have been a weakness all year. We can't afford for any starter to get hurt.

Now there is potential on the bench, but so far no one is living up to it - except in the occasional isolated game.

I prorated the starters as a group based on how many minutes they play. If you don't get the minutes, it's hard to score.

I don't think that it's unusual for someone like Wiggins who seems to be a 3 pt specialist to be inconsistent. Shooters from long range are going to have their good games and bad ones.

Edit: Just checking the team stats once again, I see that the team averages 45% shooting, but the team doesn't have a player coming off the bench shooting over 40% except Wiggins.

Would you say that's typical? I mean, isn't it harder to shoot well unless you get more minutes and have a better chance to get into the flow of the game? Isn't it pretty standard that bench players have shooting percentages that come down a notch from when they had a chance to start? Or not?

You guys would know better.

Lynx need to adjust. Sky are getting to the rim at will against us and we're taking bad shots.

Nope. There have been numerous studies that show that things like shooting %, rebounding rate, assist and turnover % don't change noticeably based on minutes. Gross numbers will go up or down based on minutes, but that is due to opportunity (or lack thereof).

Also bench players are often not as well rounded as starters, so its not uncommon to have shooters on your bench that shoot better than the starters. Because that is their whole job - to come in and shoot.

And now the lead on a Wiggins 3.

Rebounding edge by 5 for us is big. We have a tendency to watch Brunson grab boards.

I think a 15-2 run gives us the 3 pt lead after 1.

In a real about face the bench seems to be leading the charge.

Well we barely pull out the win against the Sky but the bench went from 0-30 points. The coach might have just been forcing it.
