Totally weird boxscore and the total inverse of the last game.

http://www.wnba.com/games/20110812/MINCHI/gameinfo.html

All 5 starters were well in the -, and the 4 bench players were +10, +18, ++20 and +22.

The bench played harder than the starters. Especially Wiggins. The Sky were driving to the hoop at will against our starting 5. Our bench came in and shut them down.

We would have won by 25 if all 5 of our starters showed up instead of just Whalen and about half of Maya Moore.

Sheryl Swoopes is playing again?

6.2 PPG on 38%

Kind of sad. She hasn't been effective since 2005...

That's what a good team is supposed to do. Blow out bad teams.

Kinda cool that Hakeem's kid plays in the league.

The bench is getting plenty of minutes in this game. Not very good shooting, but they sure dominate the boards.

Here's the box score: http://scores.espn.go.com/wnba/boxscore?gameId=310814008

Adair had a +/- of +20!

After beating the Washinton Mystics 81-62 the magic number is now down to 1.

Should LA win tonight, the Lynx can clinch a play-off spot by beating the LA Sharks at Target Center on Sat night.
If LA should lose tonight, the Lynx will take the floor Sat as the 1st team to have punched a play-off ticket. Candace Parker is back from injury so the Sharks will be full strength Sat night.

Either way the 6 yr play-off drought is over.

On another good note the Mystics almost beat the Sky but lost on two free throws with less than a second remaining. The Mystics are locking in that second worst record in the league to give the Lynx a great draft pick.

At this point I think the Lynx can draft no lower than #4. And of course could conceivaby win another lottery. Now let's hope they are not the only Minnesota pro sports franchise to go to the playoffs.

I took my teenage daughter to the Lynx - Sparks game on a "Dads and Daughters" special.  Awesome seats, great fun to watch.  Augustus is quick as a cat, Whalen's moves are so smooth she looks like she is going in slow motion.  Really nice to see how excited the players were when they made the announcement on the scoreboard about going to the playoffs.

When my daughter went through the autograph line, there were so many people she wasn't sure where she was supposed to go or which player (Maya Moore and Rebecca Brunson) she would get.  She ended up in Rebecca's line, which was what she wanted, got a Lynx backpack signed.

Nice you and your daughter had a good time at the gm vs. the Sharks larryboy. Candace Parker is the real deal and the Lynx are the real deal as a team ...

... Even when they stuggle a bit w/the worse team in the league the Tulsa Shock. But an ugly win by the leagues best team is still a win.

Lynx beat the Shock tonight 78-72 to go 21-6. With 7 games left to play in the regular season the magic number to clitch the Western Conf. title is now 4. (combo MN wins Phx losses)

edit : (and with Phx losing tonight the magic number is now 3)

Parker was scary good in the first quarter of that game, you could see it even from the warmups.

What really shocked me was in the second half, the Sparks were on offense at the end where we were sitting.  Parker got the ball and was guarded by Monica Wright (I think).  Anyway, Parker had at least 4 inches on her defender, who was also in a crouch about 3 feet back waiting for her move.  I expected her to just elevate and put it in for an easy bucket, instead she passively passed it away.

That was interesting in the 2nd half. When LA went big w/ 6-4 Lavender @C, 6-2 Hoffman @PF, they kind of had Parker playing some SF. Which did mean Wright & Moore a bit had to defend CP. Wiggins even had to battle her some. Wright/Moore/Wiggins can all be physical defenders especially when they get matched up on big post. And in the 2nd half the Lynx helped well & crowded Parker. Truth be told Parker tends to not like when teams get physical with her. She likes working in the open court. But she can't do it all for LA so that's why they are vulerable to better teams. They aren't a good defensive team either.

When this team gets even a little hot, they're totally indefensible.

Did it again today to pull away from a close game.

Seem to be "embracing" being good. I like that.
Hope to see a strong finish out of these ladies.

37 to 23 rebounding advantage. That should make the difference in most games.

Connecticut defeated Phoenix on Friday night, meaning the Lynx will clinch the top seed in the West with one more victory or a Mercury loss in the final six games.

St. Paul paper is making the case for Lindsey Whalen as MVP. http://www.twincities.com/sports/ci_18769002?nclick_check=1

Tom Powers also wrote a piece on the game. My favorite part:

Lindsay Whalen got the Lynx off on the right foot. She scored six of the team's first 12 points and assisted on the other three buckets. That really gets the crowd going. Whalen is a local icon. She's sort of the Joe Mauer of the Lynx, except she plays a lot.

Ouch!
