Offensively the matchups favor the Mercury. Diana Taurasi, Penny Taylor and Candice Dupree win the matchups at the 2, &4 over Augustus, Moore and Brunson. The Lynx have the decided advantage at point and center. The Mercury also have DeWanna Bonner who has won the 6th player of the year award 3 years running. Phoenix was 1st in offense at 89 ppg, the Lynx were 3rd at 81.5 ppg. Luckily defense is part of the game. The Lynx were second in the league in defense giving up 73.6 ppg, while Phoenix was 12th, giving up 86 ppg. The Lynx are also a little stonger on the boards.

Now I'm confused. Are we playing the Phoenix or the Mercury?

Yes.

Thought our candidates were much more legit than that.
Looks like a popularity/name recognition contest

I have to think Whalen and Augustus stole votes from each other as well.

Niiiiiiiiice.
These women seem to get it ... impose your will on teams not as talented as you.
Very un-Minnesota-like.

Augustus doing it on both ends. She's really making Taurasi take BAD shots.

Yep, the perception of having a team of all stars makes it harder for any individual star to get her due. Interesting that Tina Charles who we essentially traded for Whalen was 2nd.

Maya passing up the 3 and driving hard to the hoop!

Awesome to see. She's really growing as a player.

28-11 after 1.

And it wasn't that close. We missed a handful of bunnies.

Are the freaking men who are supposed to play at Target watching this?
How many years have we wanted a TWolf to put the ball to the wood and drive to the hole?

The Lynx play a much better looking brand of basketball than we ever did under Rambis.

Lead down to 10. Have to get back to what we were doing. PHX can score in bunches.

Together they'd only get to 4th. That's a travesty, considering how they dominated the league.

Heckuva play to finish the half. Whalen wow.

11 point lead at the half.

The final 2 thanks to an AMAZING hustle play by Whalen.

WNBA MVP voters always undervalue PGs. I don't think one has ever won the award.

Maya Moore: 13 points on 4-5 shooting.
Phoenix: 11 points on 3-18 shooting.

Moore is the X factor in the series. Her season numbers don't quite stack up to Phoenix's forwards, but she is the bigger talent and still growing into her game. Some vintage Moore performances at this point would definitely push the Lynx into the finals.

There were a lot of possible candidates for MVP this year. Catchings probably won it as a life time achievement as she has come close so many times. Lynx are getting burned quick in the third quarter lead is down to six.

Taj is just ageless.

She beats everyone up and down the floor, she dives for the ball. Hasn't missed a game in 4 years and still plays 30 minutes a night.

Have to agree. Amazing at 40 years old. She has a season or two left I think.

I'm not sure I've ever seen anyone flat out enjoy playing basketball more than Candice Wiggins.
