I hope I am wrong but I watch Lindsay play and I don't see an MVP candidate. That is all I mean by saying her best years are behind her. I hope I am wrong but if the Lynx get an MVP I think it will be Augustus or Moore.

You are far too intertwining "MVP candidate" with "best years behind". A PG has never won the MVP award. The league awards scorers. Only.

But let's look beyond MVP voting to Lindsay's 2011 season:

13.6 PPG (2nd best of her career. High is 14)
.511 FG% (best of her career, previous was .468)
.405 3pt% (best of her career, previous was .351)
5.9 APG (best of her career, previous was 5.6)
2.21 TO (3rd best of her career)

She just had the best statistical year of her career, and she's the glue of the team.

You are kind of making my point for me David. I don't think she will match those numbers again. She got insanely hot in August. She had a no better than average playoffs. Like I said I hope I am wrong but I can see a better year out of Augustus next year. I can see Moore rising to first team WNBA in a year or two but I bet this is Lindsays last first team selection. We will see.

Wasn't her backup the second pick in the draft? (Wright) I see her getting more minutes next year.

As a senior Wright was named ACC Player of the Year, ACC Defensive Player of the Year, and National Defensive Player of the Year.[7]

I don't think her coming off one of her best years makes your point for you at all. At 29 it's very conceivable that she can put up those kinds of numbers a few more times. I especially expect to see her assist total go up as Moore becomes a more consistent scorer. In the playoffs, teams focused the defenses on stopping her. Despite that she shot 46% and averaged 12 pts a game which is her career average.

Wright backs up the 2G. Wiggens and Hornbuckle backed up the point. My bet is that next year Hornbuckle is gone and Angel Robinson gets brought back.

We are nitpicking here. ALL I Said was that I believe Lindsay's best seasons are behind her. I still see her as an All Star. In the playoffs her assist numbers were way down. The biggest reason for that IMO is that she had to get a lot of help ball handling because of the super quick point guards she was facing in the West Conference finals and league finals. As stated I don't think she will be an MVP runner up or candidate again. She is a quite good player and I understand the things she does well. I hope I am wrong. That she can still be an MVP candidate. Go Lynx go Lindsay.

Any extra ball handling had nothing to do with super quick point guards. Especially in the WCF. It was because she was getting pressed the entire length of the court and the opposing teams where trying to fence off the lane. On top of that, the Lynx have always had other players push the ball in transition when they have the opportunity. That was nothing new in the playoffs.

I can't figure out why Minnyme would post so religiously in this thread for years....thru all the losing. And then when his team wins the championship, he disappears and doesn't celebrate at all?

I half want to let this die but I think as great as Lindsay was the second half of the season many here are still overrating her. She has some excellent strengths but she can't hold up under heavy pressure of the elite quick guards. Lindsay had to give up the ball in the last two series because she was going to lose it if she didn't. She is smart an excellent passer and knows how to use her size to her advantage at the point. Who here expects her to have better seasons than last year ahead of her? If you don't than stop arguing with me because all I said is that her best seasons are behind her. I would say her best seasons were the years she finished fifth and second in the MVP race. I can see maybe a couple second team all WNBA's in her future.

To say her best years are behind her is imply that she can't have another one like this past season. I don't agree with that assessment at all.  And I see her performing at this level for a few more years. Will she have a better year than this one? Doubt it. Can she maintain this level for a while yet? Absolutely. I also don't agree that she had an inordinate amount of trouble with elite quick guards anymore than the elite quick guards had any trouble handling an elite power guard like Whalen. I watched the games too and those "elite quick guards" got plenty of help defending Whalen.

You are so hung up on MVP voting to determine a player's worth. The MVP award is based almost solely on raw numbers, and Lindsay's game has always transcended the numbers.

I don't care if she finishes out of the Top 10 in MVP voting as long as she continues to have the same impact that she has throughout her career.

We could use Minnyme's passion in some of the other sports threads now that the Lynx's successful season is over. There's an awesome Gophers football game going on right now.

Haaaa thanks for the compliment . Sorry no NASCAR for me. The Lynx & Gopher Volleyball are my passions and I can float in & out with all the other sports team in town.

That's because "she's" been celebrating since last Friday night

I’m still trying to recover; getting back to work & real life. Can’t party for days and recover as quickly as I used to back in the day.

I was in Atlanta to see the team put the series away & it was just a fabulous experience. Almost kind of shocked as I watched security put up the ropes before the final buzzer; watch all the cameras & photogs get ready to rush the court; see our bench players jumping around like little kids waiting for the buzzer to go off.
This is what I posted elsewhere from that night (actually morning):

Bunch of Lynx fans got together at a Hard Rock here in Atlanta & just had a great time & closed the place. We couldn’t stop smiling & high 5ing each other. The bartenders were great to us

Just an amazing night. At the half even though we were down by 6, I had little doubt the Lynx would win. This team just knows how turn it up in the 2nd half. Even w/the Dream late flury w/2 mins to go, the Lynx didn't panic & closed the deal.

Lynx players & coaches families, friends, fans (bunch of STHs) & office folks made the trip & were there in force. Not to mention, Atlanta is where Maya grew up so she had tons folks there. We were loud & couldn’t be missed. It was really cool to see. Had to make the team feel good they had so much support on the road.

In the house for the game: Ray Edwards former Viking current Atlanta Falcon; some former Atlanta Falcons (I was standing in concession line & got to chat w/Jamal Anderson); Dr. J (yes Julius Erving); rapper lil Wayne sporting a Seimone jersey (some of us think it must have bothered some folks in ATL because he took it off and later had a sweatshirt on but was still all about supporting Seimone his home girl from Louisiana & the Lynx to the end) and a bunch front office, marketing & ticket sales folks. No work for them, they got to be fans for once.

Was fun to congratulate the family members as well. Monica’s dad was there & it was nice to see him, he looked good. Might recall Monica left the team for almost 2 wks mid-season when her father had a massive heart attack. Guess it was touch & go for a while so nice to have met him. Seimone's dad is a funny guy. All the parents were happy as punch, haaa.

Great moment seeing Glen Taylor except the trophy. Fans gave him a big cheer and after when he came back over to the section behind the Lynx bench were everyone was, got to shake his hand and thank him for holding on the WNBA Lynx. Very gracious man. He just kept thanking fans for continuing to support the team. Seeing Seimone get the MVP award was big too. Of course they had their backs to us all when accepting the trophies & taking pictures so we had to look at the jumbotron. Fans started yelling, “Turn around, turn around.” So as soon as they were done w/the group photo they came back over to the fans. With egging on from Taj they made Seimone get up on the press table & handed her the trophies & she raised them in the air to chants of “MVP, MVP !!” with the biggest smile on her face. Priceless.

Seeing you favorite team celebrate a championship is the best feeling ever. The Lynx early on were establishing themselves as the best team and in the end delivered, solidifying they were in fact, the best "team" in 2011.

Nice article from Forbes on Glen Taylor & his Lynx team.

http://www.forbes.com/sites/sportsmoney/2011/10/17/how-billionaire-glen-taylor-won-a-wnba-championship/

quote:

Loyal WNBA Fans. I spoke to Taylor right before Game 3 in Atlanta and I wished him good luck. He joking replied, “you and the 10 other fans in the building.” Taylor’s Lynx had more than 10 fans in Phillips Arena that night; in fact the entire section behind the team’s bench was filled with cheering fans Lynx.

LA and Chicago get the first two picks. I smell a fix. That really sucks for Tulsa. I don't think the Lynx get any help from the draft. My understanding is there is the top player Ogumwike a big gap to the second best player Shenise Johnson and then a bunch of pretty equal type picks after that. The early projection is that the Lynx take Glory Johnson out of Tennessee.

The Lynx have five selections within the first 24 picks. They don't need that many new players. I hope that they can trade up!

I'd rather they trade into next year's (much deeper and more talented) draft. We've had luck doing that before.

Or trade for an established post player to help out Brunson, since Taj won't play forever.

Who is she? The next superstar from Connecticut? Wherever she is from, I like that idea.

Edit: Here she is. She's from Baylor, and she dunks!

She is a 6'8" star from #1 Baylor. She and Moore could form a 10 year core.

Any word about the Lynx veteran center coming back or not? The temptation has to be to retire a winner, and she is over 40.
