ORIGINAL: David Jerde I think the Lynx were out-coached. The Lynx were out-played. Augustus and Moore just plain underperformed. The Fever just plain looked like a team that wanted it more. So the players just shoulda motivated themselves. Sounds like the strategic plan of a certain Wolves coach of recent, short-duration tenure... Playing for the championship wasn't motivation enough? If a coach has to throw a charge into a team in that situation, I think we have identified the problem. Bingo. A leaderless morass… Just my thoughts on some of the thought here: My short version; yes the team started out defending their title game after game from the start of the season with every thing they had. Early during the 10 gm start what stood out to everyone in the stands was the fact that there was no way they could play with that intensity, play-off type intensity for the whole season, not possible. The Lynx spent much of the season defending their title but in the end, played to just survive with little of nothing left in the tank physically or mentally and yet … they nearly pulled it off. Longer rant : The Lynx were just very out of character from the start of the finals and that was hard to watch. Yes early on they just refused to lose. People saw them take 20-25 pt leads & let up. Reality, they were playing at a higher level as defending champs then everyone else. In the long run it caught up with them because I don’t think they ever found a good balance even with the breaks. There were many more distractions with the Olympics then people think IMOH (No way the league should have waited till the end of the season, in the middle of two 3 gms road trips to make the team fly east the morning after a game to visit the POTUS & then have to fly all the way to the west coast the same day, on commercial flights, to have to play 3 gms in 4 days on the west coast to end the season- should have been done during the break when team USA & the POTUS were all in DC) there were some injuries and the team went from defending their title night in and out to going into survival mode. Just doing whatever YOU can to stay afloat. In some ways the Olympian forgot they had teammates & tried to save the day by themselves. Coach was too dependent on the starters, didn’t trust her reserves (less in the play-offs)other than Wright (sometimes) yes I think the coaching staff had some brain farts cuz they had a bad game plan & made little to no adjustments (unlike in 2011); Taj was banged up, Brunson had carried the team through the first 2 series & both were on fumes; Adair never got track after the knee surgery during the break, neither did Harris. In the end, they ran into the team in the league that was on a roll at the right time even shorthanded. The Olympic didn’t bother Catchings late as much because she had 3 reserve that got hot and had 2 wks in their lives playing waaay beyond expectations. They Lynx were hungry but just didn't have the chops to finish. Anyway a new season is about to begin so some redemption is in order I think they’ll be ready.
