Lost in the shuffle, we signed Seimone to a 3 year extension on Friday. A week after doing the same with Whalen.

Keeping the band together.

Crazy to think this team is owned by the same guy who owns the Wolves.

Taylor wants to bring his business experience to the struggling Wolves. He guided the Wolves to set up criteria for players for the Wolves to add under Kahn. Unfortunately, while Kahn got the players that were outlined for him, there was little relationship between the criteria and winning. Too many players with the same skill set leads to failure. Too much of management is judgment. Judgment cannot be micromanaged. McHale had lost his fire, Kahn was incompetent and Flip is too into the good old boy network. When Adelman is done coaching, he will become GM and bring back Casey as coach.

We need to make a statement tonight. No limping through the playoffs like last year.

We swept Seattle 4-0 by an average of 17 points this year. The closest game was 13.

Well, I'll tie this in. Adelman should become the GM of both teams, when he is done coaching.

Double what?

Why would you have a guy who has never been a GM at any level (and has no experience with the women's game) replace the GM of the best team in the WNBA?

I don't even want him as the Wolves GM - and he knows the men's game.

(My prior "what" was about Casey. Adelman has no history with the man at all).

Now back to Lynx talk....

One doesn't need to have a history with someone to hire him (Casey)as a coach. You don't have a history as a GM, but you (David) could do the job too. Back to the Lynx talk now too.

1 game down 80-64 win ........ magic number 6 wins to go.

Some post game after Game #1:

http://www.startribune.com/sports/lynx/224730022.html

quote:

At 32 (Brunson) — by almost five months the oldest player on the team — Brunson had played in two WNBA Finals, winning once, before she joined the Lynx in 2010. She was on the defunct Sacramento team that beat Whalen’s Connecticut team in the 2005 finals.

http://www.wnba.com/lynx/news/gamerecap_lynx_storm_2013_09_20.html

quote:

"In the first half she started off a little slow," Augustus said of Moore. "We just told her to keep shooting. She's a great player; she's going to knock them down."

The Lynx brought that intensity into the fourth quarter as well, and stretched the lead to 80-64 at the end of the game.

http://www.twincities.com/lynx/ci_24145208/minnesota-lynx-avert-wnbas-upset-special-trend?source=pkg

quote:

The Lynx made upset prevention part of their preparation, even though they owned a 4-0 regular-season advantage over the Seattle Storm, and they held form Friday night in an 80-64 victory over the Seattle Storm in front of 8,832 at Target Center.

Saw Tom Powers at the game, here's what he came up with:

http://www.twincities.com/lynx/ci_24145156/tom-powers-dominant-minnesota-lynx-make-it-hard

quote:

Whalen said the team is taking this series "possession by possession." I wanted to rocket ahead to the last game of the Finals and the potential for a happily-ever-after ending. Nobody else wanted to go there. It obviously wouldn't be proper. So they talked about their playoff start while some of us remained fixated on their playoff finish, which is really all that counts.

Both teams had trouble shooting, I wonder if because of all the open space in the dome throwing their depth perception off?

We're seeing more of L. Moore now instead of Sugar. Anyone hear why?

Reeve said she wanted to get Wright more involved offensively by taking shifting her away from PG. As a result that means Wright is backing up the wing positions, Moore backs up PG and there is less time for Sugar.

Ok, I thought Sugar was also a PG

Tulsa Shock's Riquna Williams Named 2013 WNBA Sixth Woman of the Year

Williams received 17 votes from a national panel of 39 sportswriters and broadcasters to earn the award. Minnesota Lynx Monica Wright (13) finished second in the voting.

The Lynx get the Mercury after they pull the upset of LA. It sounds like Phoenix has really gotten it together since the coaching change. Apparently Russ Pennel has finally gotten them to play some defense. Taurasi has really taken her game up a couple of levels in the playoffs so far. One Lynx advantage could be that Penny Taylor may not play. She re-injured the knee she had operated on.

The bottom line is that it is time for Maya Moore to make a statement and officially relegate Taurasi to #2 status among U-Conn alums.

Seattle is/was one of the tougher defensive teams in the league so that series was way more defensive then what will take place vs. Phoenix. And no Sugar is a true SG, likes to score & doesn't have a PG mentality.

A little reading leading up the game.

On the Lynx-Blog
http://www.startribune.com/sports/blogs/On_the_Lynx.html

Whalen & Moore 1st team All-WNBA & Augustus 2nd team All-WNBA
Brunson was also name to the 2nd team All Defensive team.

Western Conf Preview: this guy does good write ups.

http://wnbalien.com/2013/09/26/2013-wnba-playoff-previews-western-conference-finals-minnesota-lynx-vs-phoenix-mercury/

quote:

“…This isn’t the old Phoenix Mercury, the team that lost the last 12 games they’ve played against the Lynx. Russ Pennell made some changes after he took over in midseason, and now ESPN gets the leader of their ‘Three to See’ in the conference finals after all. We’ve got the reigning champs who were almost forgotten, against the team everyone rushed to anoint as their successors. The Sparks might be out, but Hollywood easily could’ve written this script.”

This is a great read .

2 things I loved :

1st, This epitomizes the Lynx:
quote:

It's a vicious cycle of exploitative basketball when playing the Lynx and the biggest challenge is that their best players are such selfless stars that they know how to strike that perfect balance between selfless deference and individual dominance. But in the way they put pressure on the defense, everyone in that unit benefits from the presence of everyone else to the point where it's hard to say who's driving what.

And 2nd; That the Lynx are kind of a hybrid of the Miami Heat & SA Sprus.

Lynx whup the Mercury 85-63 in game 1. Diana Taurasi picks up a technical for kissing Simone Augustus during a shoving match.

There were no T's given just a double foul. But now that I looked at what happened, Seimone shouldn't have gotten a foul.
But the Lynx took care of business and should send the Mercury fishing after Sundays game.

This game was complete domination and a 1st half defensive clinic by the Lynx. Love this team

I agree. They bumped chests and nothing was called. Then Taurasi put both hands on Simone's shoulders, gave her a hard shove then stepped forward and kissed her on the cheek while Simone did nothing and the ref called the double foul. The funny part was right after the call you could see Taurasi go palms up and say "what did I do"?

All in all if Taurasi wants to go that way it is only a plus for the Lynx. There was an article in the paper on how Reeves thinks Augustus is too nice out there some times and that wants her to play pissed off more often. If Psycho wants to piss her off like that it's fine with me.
