I think she is. She was the #4 pick in a very good draft. First team All WNBA in 2008. Among the league leaders in assists every year. She is great floor general and and a winner. The Lynx also have an All Star playing the same position as the top 2 players in this years draft. I would make that deal in heart beat.

Cool. I've always liked Lindsey, so barring a Candace Parker type talent being available, I'd have more interest in the squad if Whalen came back to Minny.

Now if we can just get Janel McCarville too...

Don't the Lynx already have a capable point guard?

Renee Montgomery was the fourth overall pick just a year ago.  Are they going to give up on her as a starter after only one season?

The jury is out on Montgomery who is not even playing over seas during the off season. She still hasn't proven she is a starter let alone an All Star like Whalen.

I do believe that she's still active.  I found this in Wikipedia:

Montgomery was invited to the USA Basketball Women's National Team training camp in the fall of 2009. The team selected to play for the 2010 FIBA World Championship and the 2012 Olympics is usually chosen from these participants.[6]
At the conclusion of the training camp, the team will travel to Ekaterinburg, Russia, where they compete in the 2009 UMMC Ekaterinburg International Invitational.[6]

She just posted in the Strib the other day that she is taking time off to explore other aspects of life outside of sports.

I think that's the key point: the best players in this draft aren't a good fit. Whalen is a good fit, and the franchise $$ angle makes it a no brainer.

Don't know who the top 3 women will be in the draft, but getting Whalen and still have 2 of the top 3 is not a bad draft

Still have 2 of the top 3?

Don't we have the 1st and 4th picks? So by my math, if we trade #1 for LW, we are left with the #4 pick.

Lynx have 1 & 4. Connecticut has #3. I think the deal is supposed to be along the lines of 1 & 4 for Whalen and #3.

WNBA.com had 1 & 4. Then I realized Sacramento folded and the Sun and Lynx moved up to 2 & 3.

I didn't even take that into it. I haven't followed what has gone on this offseason

If only there were a place, or a way, where one could search for the data...

Okay, it's not quite trivial. The Lynx had #1 and #4. Then the Monarchs folded and their #2 pick was eliminated. So the Lynx have #1 and #3, with CT at #2, and apparently interested in drafting the local UConn star Tina Charles.

That's right. We also get the 2nd pick from Sacramento's roster as well, don't we?

--edit--

We did and we took Rebekkah Brunson.

The WNBA should just make it a law that you have to draft a local player.

When the league first started, they tried to assure the teams that they could draft local players to help draw fans

I guess we will hear later today that the trade for Lindsay will be done. Montgomery and the #1 pick for her and the #2

Awesome! Both teams get local college hero's to run their offenses. Whalen will probably double the Lynx attendance next year.

I think the first trade rumor was better without them giving up Rene

Sweeney just used the word "awesome" to describe a WNBA trade. The prosecution rests.

Just because you're anti women, doesn't mean we all are
