The Chicago Sky star also set a WNBA record by making 19 consecutive free throws. Delle Donne has played in 7 games this season and has scored 40 or more twice. Only 3 other players in WNBA history have managed to have multiple 40 point games in a season (via Elias).

This is just such sad news. The former Detroit Shock who won three titles and have fallen on very hard times in Tulsa were riding high and possibly the faves to win the WNBA. They lost Gloria Johnson for the season due to pregnancy and overcame that. Now they lose potential WNBA MVP Skylar Diggins for the season. Just too messed up. Other than the Lynx that was a team I could have really cheered for. Now they are probably done.

MINNEAPOLIS -- Minnesota Lynx guard Monica Wright has undergone arthroscopic surgery on her right knee.

The surgery was performed at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, on Thursday. The Lynx announced that Wright will be out indefinitely.

The 5-foot-10 Wright has been Minnesota's top reserve for the majority of her six-year career with the team. Wright missed the first five games this season because of a strained right calf muscle and averaged 2.1 points and 11.5 minutes over seven games.

Lynx Acquire Seattle Guard Renee Montgomery in Exchange for Monica Wright

The Minnesota Lynx announced Monday that they have acquired guard Renee Montgomery and a 2016 second-round draft pick from Seattle in exchange for injured guard Monica Wright.

The transaction will actually mean a return to Minnesota for Montgomery, who was drafted by the Lynx No. 4 overall in the 2009 WNBA Draft.

Minnesota traded Montgomery and rights to the No. 1 overall pick to Connecticut in 2010 in a deal that brought Minnesota native and current guard Lindsay Whalen to the Lynx. Montgomery was traded to Seattle in January 2015.

In 17 games for the Storm this season, Montgomery is averaging 7.1 points, 3.2 assist and 1.8 rebounds over 17.8 minutes on the floor. She is generally utilized off the bench, although she has made the starting lineup twice this year. During the 2014 season, Montgomery averaged 6.7 points and 2.4 assists per game.

During her time with the Sun, the 5'7" guard played in seven playoff games (2011 and 2012) and was named to the 2011 Eastern Conference All-Star team as a reserve.

Interestingly enough, Montgomery also played college ball in Connecticut, helping the Huskies to a 138-11 record over her four-year career. During her time there, Montgomery saw two trips to the NCAA Women's Final Four, four NCAA Regionals, four Big East regular season titles and three Big East Tournament crowns. She tallied 147 career starts with the Huskies.

Wright, selected No. 2 overall in the 2010 WNBA Draft, has proved an integral part of Minnesota's roster, and it will be hard to see her leave, but recent injuries have plagued the guard. After originally suffering from a calf injury, she also underwent arthroscopic surgery on her knee July 16 and is sidelined indefinitely. Wright played in only seven games for the Lynx this season, averaging 2.1 points and 1.1 assists per game with limited minutes.

Up until this point, the guard has been relatively healthy, playing in 161 of 185 regular-season games. The 2013 season proved one of Wright's most notable, as she averaged 9.0 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game en route to the WNBA Championship. Her career highs include 32 points (6/1/10), nine rebounds (7/11/13) and seven assists (7/22/14).

If Wright recovers well from knee surgery, she will add depth and experience to the Storm lineup, while Montgomery offers a more immediate guard option to the Lynx going forward with the 2015 season.

The 2016 second round pick could also prove valuable, as Seattle currently has the third worst record in the WNBA, and that pick could be used to add even more talent to the Lynx roster.

But it's clear that the Lynx are going all-in to go after another championship this season, adding veterans like Cruz, Asjha Jones, and now Montgomery to their core.

I like the move even though the Lynx will miss Wright over the long haul. The Lynx are clearly making the most out their window with this team. Montgomery is a good player who gives them guard versatility. Reeve has made recent comments about wanting to incorporate another point to allow Whalen to play off the ball more, since Lindsey is getting older now. Montgomery fits the bill.

When both are healthy IMO Monica is easily a better player than Montgomery. I wonder if this means that Monica simply won't be coming back this season at all and the Lynx decided to overpay to get the help this year.

Montgomery's numbers stack up pretty favorably against Wright's. Montgomery is the better shooter and all around offensive player. Wright is the better rebounder. They look to be about a push defensively. Wright has the advantage of versatility, while Montgomery can play a true point.

Montgomery: PER 15.3 / TS% .520 / eFG% .465 / AST% 23.7 / ORB% 1.5, DRB% 7.3, TRB% 4.4

Wright: PER 12.1 / TS% .489 / eFG% .435 / AST% 14.1 / ORB% 3, DRB% 10.9 , TRB% 7

All in all I wouldn't say Wright is easily the better player. In fact, given Wright's recurring knee issue, the fact that Seattle has to wait for Wright and gave up a 2nd round pick along with Montgomery the Lynx did exceptionally well in this trade.

Wright probably has the overall talent edge, but she's just never found any consistency. Maybe she finally will as a starter for Seattle.

I maintain my opinion regardless of stats that Wright is definitely better. However, The Lynx missing Augustus and Wright need some help now, but considering who were missing don't we need that help on the wing not at PG? A little bit puzzling. Also Montgomery is small strictly a PG not an SG IMO.

They need a scoring option in the back court. Reeve has been saying that she wants to run back court sets with Whalen playing off the ball to save on her legs. If they have another good offensive point they can do that. Wright may have a little pure talent edge, but Montgomery's talent has translated to better results on the court. Like I said, when you factor in that Wright hasn't really been effective for 2 years, had a second surgery on the same knee may not even be available for the rest of the year and Seattle threw in a 2nd round pick, this was quite a good deal for the Lynx.

The way you describe it certainly shows that big picture it looks like a good deal for the Lynx. So why did Seattle throw in a likely early second round pick in the deal. With Montgomery gone and Wright not available they will get even worse. Is this part of a tanking plan to get the #1 overall pick for next season?

Shes pretty damn amazing.

Excellent. She had 30 points breaking the All Star scoring record. She got 11 of those points in the last couple minutes.

The Lynx have acquired center Sylvia Fowles from the Chicago Sky in a three team trade that includes the Atlanta Dream. The Lynx will send Damiris Dantas, Reshanda Grey, and a 2nd round pick to the Dream, while Atlanta sends Erika de Sousa to Chicago and the disgruntled Fowles comes to Minnesota.

Fowles spent seven seasons with the Sky, but the relationship apparently soured in recent years, and she requested a trade prior to the 2015 season. She hasn't appeared for the Sky so far this year, and they have finally accommodated her request by trading her to the Lynx, a rumored destination for months.

This is quite a coup for the league leading Lynx, as Fowles is a two-time winner of the Defensive Player of the Year award, has been named to the All-WNBA first or second team four times in her career, has averaged a double-double in each of the last four seasons, and currently sports the highest FG% in WNBA history.

The 6'6" Fowles will be a force in the middle for the loaded Lynx, who now sport an incredible array of talent both inside and on the perimeter. Hopefully she is able to shake off whatever rust exists and get into the flow quickly. In particular, Fowles gives the Lynx someone who can match up with Brittney Griner of the Phoenix Mercury who is emerging as the dominant interior force in the league.

The Lynx have given up some of their depth, with the promising Damiris Dantas on her way to Atlanta along with rookie Reshanda Grey, who wasn't seeing much playing time. Still, with Rebekkah Brunson and Fowles, in addition to the emerging Dev Peters and Asjha Jones, they should be in good shape up front. The Lynx also send their 2016 first round pick to the Dream while getting Chicago's 2nd rounder.

The Lynx have shown once again that they will go for it at every opportunity, and kudos must be given to the front office for their maneuverings this season.

Their draft night work netted them Anna Cruz and Asjha Jones, as well as the pick that became Grey, a prospect widely seen as a top 10 player in the draft. They were able to trade an injured Monica Wright for Renee Montgomery and a 2016 second round pick from Seattle, giving them an extra pick that gave them some flexibility to make today's blockbuster while retaining draft assets.

Fowles, who has yet to turn 30, not only will hopefully propel them this season, but also helps keep their championship window open in the future. She's a dominant two-way player that not only protects the rim but gives the Lynx a post-up scoring option they have lacked.

After waiting out for equal value, the Sky have finally honored Sylvia Fowles’ trade request, sending her to the Minnesota Lynx. Chicago will replace her with Erika de Souza from the Dream, while Atlanta adds youth to their roster for the future.

After sitting out the first half of the season, Sylvia Fowles has finally made her way out of Chicago. The Minnesota Lynx announced that they have acquired the two-time WNBA Defensive Player of the Year from the Sky in a three-team trade, that also involved the Atlanta Dream.

Minnesota also received Chicago's second round pick in the 2016 Draft. Damiris Dantas and Reshanda Gray will go to Atlanta, along with the Lynx's 2016 first round pick. For their part, the Sky received veteran center Erika de Souza.

The Lynx get a chance to bolster their frontcourt with a three-time All-Star, adding talent to a team that's already first in the Western Conference. Minnesota had a strong first half of the season, but recent injuries have been a cause for concern.

The team lost starting guard Monica Wright to knee surgery on July 16 before trading her to the Seattle Storm for Renee Montgomery. Guard Seimone Augustus received arthroscopic surgery on her knee, and will be out for at least another month.

Fellow All-Star Lindsay Whalen got poked in the eye in Minnesota's win against Tulsa last week, the second time she's suffered an injury to that same eye. Six years ago, Tamika Catchings poked that same eye, and that injury took about six weeks to heal fully.

Minnesota seems to be bouncing back from those injuries by adding Fowles, whose leadership helped lead the Sky to a 24-10 record in 2013, the best in franchise history. She averaged 16.3 points and a league-high 11.5 rebounds per game in the regular season. Last season, Fowles was limited to 20 games after a hip injury kept her off the court early in the year.

With the only other true center being shipped away as a part of the trade, Fowles has an opportunity to slip right into a significant role if she can knock the rust off quickly. The team already has one of the toughest defenses in the league, and adding the 6-foot-6 center in the middle of the paint will make it even harder for opposing offenses. Her post play should also help take some of the pressure off of Maya Moore, giving the team even more offensive potential.

The Sky, on the other hand, get an end to a situation that has plagued the locker room all season. Even without Fowles, the team is ranked second in the East, boasting an 11-6 record. The addition of Erika de Souza and her defensive intensity down low will undoubtedly help fix some of the Sky's defensive issues.

De Souza's toughness and rebounding give the team an inside presence that's been missing in Fowles absence all year. She has an opportunity to play a significant role in shaping just how deep Chicago's likely playoff run can go.

The Dream are still trying to find their groove this year, and seem to be preparing for the future in acquiring two young players and a first-round draft pick. Damiris Dantas has been solid in her second season in the league.

While her minutes have been somewhat inconsistent year-round, she's shown the ability to have an impact; her best game this year came in a loss against Tulsa, where she had a 15 point, 6 rebound performance, missing only one shot. She competed in the 2012 Olympic Games for her native Brazil, alongside Erika de Souza.

Rookie Reshanda Gray averaged under four minutes a contest with the Lynx, and has an opportunity for a more significant role with the Dream. The 2015 Pac-12 Player of the Year averaged 17.4 points and 7.1 rebounds her senior season at California

I like Dantas a lot, but I'm not sure she's ever more than a really good complimentary player. Gray could barely get on the floor. And while its a very good draft coming, up, its going to be at (or dam near) the bottom of the 1st round. It might only be a spot or two higher than the pick we got for Wright.

I think David summed it up best. Total win. When Whalen and Simone are healthy again, this is arguable the best Lynx lineup ever. Reeves can throw more different looks at opponents now. Fowles allows them to go small run and gun with Moore as a stretch 4, total defense, the standard lineup or variation on any of them of them.

We stole her. We got an All-NBA and DPOTY caliber player for basically spare parts.
