All 53 #Vikings accounted for today, including a couple more. Holton Hill and Josh Doctson are practicing, even though they don’t count against the active roster at the moment. Adam Thielen stretched, did some light rehab and took part in individuals from what reporters saw.

Zimmer on keeping #Vikings CB Holton Hill despite an 8-game suspension:

“It didn’t really cost anything to keep him. I mean, there was really no reason to not [keep him]. He’s a talented guy, he’s got the size & length & speed. There was times he played pretty well last year...”

Other than the "I’ve worked extremely hard to clean up the reputation of this organization, this team off the field" thing?

Interesting take bigo. Before I pass judgement, I would want more details. The PED suspension, wasn't if for a masking agent? I know it looks bad (like Elf being called for holding penalties), but couldn't it be an honest mistake? As for marijuana, I think that rule is archaic and part of the reason why athletes have issues with opioids. Had a buddy who played in the NHL and they (team doctors) prescribed ambien, opioids like candy. I also hope it will be part of the new CBA.

I get with that with his pre-draft problems he should be extra cautious but I did some pretty stupid things at that age.

Actually it was Zimmer who's "worked extremely hard to clean up the reputation of this organization, this team off the field" not me. Sorry for the confusion.

And I agree with everything you say. Question about the opioids. Are they on the banned list, or do the traces just wear off really fast?

I know what you were doing. Just poking back.

I don't think many, if any, of the opioids are banned. Pretty eye-opening stats on abuse.

https://globalsportmatters.com/health/2019/04/03/cbd-solution-nfls-opioid-use/

You look at states with legal marijuana and they have lower opioid related deaths.

This one is a video of a video game so I don't know how to do it any other way. Perhaps someone else can help us out. Having a Twitter account is as easy as signing in here at talkvikes or Facebook, though. I get the work thing, though.

Ok. Thanks. I can look at it tonight -

I notice so many instances of football and football related things being referred to as a chess match. Terrible comparison if you ask me. Especially in this case. The comparable circumstance in a chess match would be to hold my finger over the queen and then pretend I'm going to touch it and move it and then pull my finger back and then repeat that 1000 times over the course of a few days.

It definitely is archaic. But, at least for now, it's still a rule. A very specific one with very specific penalties.

And knowing just what it can cost him and still violating it multiple times says a lot about Hill as well.

Part of being a grown-up is complying with rules you may not agree with. If you have a problem with a rule, fight to get it changed. Don't just disregard it.

I'm ready to retire with a state pension. It doesn't in any way compare to NFL money but I think it's nice. I've had a CDL for quite a few years that require random UAs - it's never ever crossed my mind to chance losing my job to get high.

Can't wrap my head around that one.

Pro athletes have had networks of people fixing the consequences of their bad decisions since the varsity coach first noticed their freak athleticism and talents in junior high. The idea of being held accountable isn't even an afterthought for them.

I'm with you 100% and you said it really well. Not to excuse the behavior, but I do believe that the offenders think that they won't get caught. Of course that is irresponsible. I mean, the benefits don't balance with the repercussions if caught. It simply is not worth it.

Pat Mahomes running in practice. Looks close to being ready to me, but maybe still a no go for Sunday. It looks kind of similar to a video of the Giants RB just before the Vikings game. He needed a few more days too.

If by "close to ready" you mean he might be able to keep up with some of those 65 year old refs...

I'm 66, so he definitely can run faster than me even when he is hurting. I must say, though, that when I was his age I was really fast. Running is in my clan with two NCAA champions. One of them had a similar name to you. Oestreich. He was my grandfather's brother and he was the fastest runner in America at one time during the 1920's. (at his event) The other is my niece.

https://www.arrowheadpride.com/2019/10/30/20940777/chiefs-wednesday-injury-report-vs-vikings-patrick-mahomes-remains-limited

The Chiefs had five starters — CB Bashaud Breeland (shoulder), DE Frank Clark (neck), RG Laurent Duvernay-Tardif (ankle), LT Eric Fisher (groin) and DE Alex Okafor (ankle) — miss practice to begin the week on Wednesday.

Four starters — punter Dustin Colquitt (left thigh), CB Kendall Fuller (thumb), DT Chris Jones (groin) and QB Patrick Mahomes — were officially listed as limited. Mahomes has yet to be a full participant in practice since dislocating his kneecap Week 7 against the Denver Broncos.

LG Andrew Wylie (ankle) being a full participant is a good early sign that he could return this week. Wylie last played Week 5 against the Indianapolis Colts.

Advantage Vikings. Arrowhead is a tough place to play, though. Should be a good game.

I had forgotten about Chad Beebe, but reportedly he will be able to return soon, too. Knock on wood, but the Vikings are doing better than a lot of teams in the health of the players department. Let's hope it stays.

Thought they put Beebe on IR for the year

Two players a season per team can be put on IR but can return within 6 weeks. In this case it’s 8 for Beebe. If indeed he does?

Ok. Didn't know that.

I don't think Beebe ever plays another snap for us.

As much as I was excited for the reports on him hes been a nothing burger.

I agree he probably never sees the field with us again. I hope Doctson can give us a good 4th.

Here are my thoughts on Beebe:

I never heard a negative word about Beebe until that preseason game where he was singled out for making errors by someone on social media. Since that time I have heard nothing but shoutings from the mountain tops about how bad he is ... feels like a lot of piling on

Maybe I got it wrong - but that's my perception

I was looking forward to seeing him lock down a WR spot but the injuries were a concern … then he seemed to be out of sync with the QBs (one of those leading to an INT) a couple of times. On one replay he stopped when the open space was in front of him [and the QB threw into the space] and, on another, he kept going right into coverage instead of pulling up [with the QB throwing behind him]. Maybe it was the QBs fault or just a miscommunication but Beebe sure seemed at fault. That's not a lot of reps to go off of but on a stretch of 5-6 targets in two games …. didn't he drop a few too?

All correctable stuff with more reps but then the injury issue again.

I was just comparing the combine results for Rhodes and Hughes. Rhodes had faster straight line speed. Of course that was longer ago than for Hughes and my not be the case now. Regardless, Hughes had much better short shuttle and 3 cone scores.

I was interested in comparing because it looks like KC has really fast receivers and they lead the league "by a large margin" in yards after the catch. (YAC) I don't know if they are quick, as well. Probably. It's a tough match up for any defense. They have a really good tight end, too. The Vikings had a little extra time to prepare for this one and they probably needed it. I honestly have no clue as to what the Vikings should do. They probably will stay in nickel for most of the game. It's critical that our guys make their tackles. Because Green Bay already just beat them in KC, it feels like a must win. It may be a disappointment. I mean KC has lost three games in a row so they are beatable, but you figure that they won't lose all their games. Will they lose four in a row?

The wide receiver screens that KC loves to run, need to be a top priority. This is a very winnable game whether Mahomes plays or not. Our offense should be able to exploit their LB's and secondary. The puke sure did.
