From NFLTR

UDFA Vikings Unofficial

David Moa OT Boise ST
Quartney Davis WR Texas A&M
Jake Lacina C Augustana
Blake Lynch K Baylor
Tyler Higby OL Michigan ST
Brady Aiello OL Oregon

DISCUSS

Only one name I recognize from the UDFAs is Quartney Davis. He was originally set to sign with Dallas until we made him an offer too good to refuse.
@AaronWilson_NFL
Minnesota Vikings gave former Texas A&M wide receiver Quartney Davis $100,000 guaranteed, including a $10,000 signing bonus. Outstanding deal prompted switch from Dallas Cowboys to NFC North franchise for former Langham Creek standout. Vikings won the bidding war

Considering the deal he has a legit chance to make the team.

I see 4 of the 6 are OL. I'm guessing that's where a FA thinks they have a chance to make the team.

Update Blake Lynch is LB from Baylor not a K

Interesting fella

GILMER, Texas — GIlmer High School alum Blake Lynch is headed to Minnesota.

The 6'3, 225-pound linebacker was signed by the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent on Saturday following the 2020 NFL Draft.

Some of Lynch's accomplishments include:

All-Big 12 honorable mention (2019)
32 career starts at five different positions (corner, linebacker, safety, wide receiver, running back)
Earned his undergraduate degree in December 2018.

Seems like he started at every skill position except kicker.

Quartney Davis, WR, Texas A&M
Height: 6-1. Weight: 199. Arm: 32.13. Hand: 9.75.
40 Time: 4.54.
Projected Round (2020): 4-6.
4/21/20: Team sources say Davis is a quality route-runner who has some size and quickness, but he had a disappointing 2019 season. Davis totaled 54 receptions for 616 yards and four touchdowns in 2019. He did not played up to his skill set and definitely should have returned to the Aggies for 2020, but Davis entered the 2020 NFL Draft and played at the Senior Bowl. In 2018, he had 45 receptions for 585 yards and seven touchdowns.

This was back in January DraftBlaster

Tyler Higby Looks to be more of a Guard

Scouting Report: Tyler Higby

School: Michigan State Position: Offensive Guard Class: Junior Height: 6’5″ Weight: 300 Projected Draft Round: 2-4
Scouting Report:

Extremely experienced and versatile offensive line prospect that probably is best suited at left guard at the next level. Has been bounced around the offensive line due to injuries and performance issues of other players, but has been able to grasp and adapt to each position on the offensive line. Excels at pass pro on the inside, and is a perfect complement player to a top tier left tackle prospect. Is well coached in the NFL game, and will be able to step in immediately to an NFL offensive line.

The Packers trading up for Love, isn't as bad as the Bears trading up for Tribiscutt, passing on both Watson and Mahomes but damn if it didn't make this draft even more delicious!

Duck Territory --- Brady Aiello was not a full-time starter during his final three years at Oregon.

Yet, Aiello's NFL chances are anything but dead. Aiello will be joining the Minnesota Vikings, he announced on social media shortly after the 2020 NFL Draft's conclusion.

A member of the 2015 recruiting class, Aiello was one of four 2015 signees to start as redshirt freshman in 2016, along with Shane Lemieux, Jake Hanson and Calvin Throckmorton. Yet, after starting 12 games in his first season, Aiello never regained a full-time starting role. He did manage a regular role in Mario Cristobal's rotation, however, earning 15 starts over his final three seasons with the Ducks. Three of those starts came in 2017, seven in 2018 and five this past fall.

At 6-foot-7 and 311 pounds, Aiello will look to play tackle, where he played at Oregon, in the professional ranks.

Despite not being a full-time starter, Aiello was a NFLPA Bowl participant following the conclusion of his career. He was a Pac-12 academic honorable mention in 2018.

His senior season saw him finally draw some recognition. He was a four-time PFF.com Pac-12 Team of the Week selection. He was later named a third-team all-conference played by PFF.com.

Dantzler is a solid pick, not sure I would call him better then Gladney, but both are going to contribute to what the Vikings do defensively this year!

Overall I give the Vikes a B+

Got some guys that can contribute right away at WR, CB, Big Nickel, and perhaps T/OG in Ezra.

Intriguing players like Wonnum, Dye, Hinton. And depth at S.

Not enough done in trenches. I wanted a legit DT like Gillimore and a IOL who could compete this year.

Would have liked another WR that could do something different like stretch the field.

Bullets in 2021.

Dennison and Peterson have a lot of work to do.

That should drop our grade to a B-/C+. CB, OG, and WR were our biggest needs by far, with DT and DE close behind, followed by OT to eventually replace Reiff. RS addressed 2 of the 3 in the first round, but that should be a given for any GM.

I can't argue this at all. For me, if this was last year, I would give them a D. I do trust Kubiak/Dennison much more than the organization two years ago. Kubiak has a long history of having functional olines with lower draft picks. Maybe I'm foolishly optimistic after last years draft. But the organization has been hinting they are pleased with Samia and Udoh's development. I'm a big fan of Collins.

The counterpoint is they aggressively tried to trade for Williams.

Not really. They could have had him for damn little draft capital, could have easily outbid SF.

I stated that the org must be pleased with the development of younger players and that they think they could step up. The fact they were aggressively trying to trade for Williams is the counterpoint for that assertion.

The fact they were aggressively trying to trade for Williams is not a fact, because they could have easily have got him for minimal draft capital. Did they stick their toes in the water, probably, but we practically could have got him for the extraneous draft picks we cached away for 2021.

They had a trade in place that Williams refused, links have been posted. The fact that it would have had to include a new contract makes it aggressive regardless of the picks.

Move on KGB.

#1 a trade was never in place, #2 no one seems clear as to when Williams said he would nix a trade to the Vikings, the news broke AFTER we drafted Cleveland, why did it all of a sudden surface? Whether you or I are correct, it's clear that the Vikings drafting Cleveland made them the initial nixers of any Williams deal. And once we drafted Cleveland, any counterpoint is moot, because Williams became irrelevant.

This is my understanding, too.

It sounded like we were trying to do both and William's didn't like it. I think we drafted Ezra Cleveland and still expected the deal to go through and he balked at it. How awesome would that have been to get both Trent William's and Ezra Cleveland?

After digesting the outcome of the draft (and more importantly, the knee-jerk criticisms of each pick), I can see that we improved dramatically. The secondary alone got a gigantic boost. Some positions just weren't available at the right moment and it comes down to philosophy.
To Brad's point, we actually did have the option of Georgia OT Isaiah Wilson and OT Robert Hunt of Louisiana-Lafayette when we chose our two 1st rounders. After that, it was guys like Ezra Cleveland, Josh Jones, T Houston; and they were almost well into round 3. The stud Tackles really were thin at that point (unless you consider Wilson or Hunt to be franchise T's, so you were simply rolling the dice on a second-tier starting caliber OT v. possible 1st tier WR's/CB's. That's how I see it. Personally, I've watched enough of Cleveland that I feel confident in his ability to start, but I can see why those unfamiliar are skeptical.

Ultimately, I'm good w/ the 1st and 2nd round picks because I think they're all starting quality as rookies. It's easy to hype the rest, but I see any rookies starting from rounds 3-7 as icing on a cake. I do wish that we got a better LBer that was starting quality and a real potential QB2, but that's how it goes. QB quality seemed really thin after the first three or four.

Stanley is going to have the better arm strength, Browning the accuracy and football smarts. It's really going to depend on how seriously Browning took the off season. If he's been working the way he should be working, it would be tough for Stanley, but maybe they both stay and we can finally get rid of Mannion. Mannion is a smart QB, but doesn't have the talent of either of the two young guys behind him. Let me just say, if Browning has taken the off season serious and worked really hard to get back to the form he had in his Soph and Junior campaigns at Washington, he's a very capable QB, he just lost something his senior year and it could have been any number of things. There was a time when Browning's star shined pretty damn bright. Stanley is the bigger guy, just not sure until I see him throwing with the big boys, he wasn't on my radar, but I'm an o-line/d-line guy.

I think Lynch has a real chance to be a solid contributor to the rotation. Give 'Dre some time to work with him and you might have something there. I also like Wonnum's potential, but he will have to show he wants to be part of this, not sure he has that in his heart, but if anyone can turn his potential into output on the field, it's "Dre!

Arguing semantics is hilarious "Initial nixers of any deal" - I'm dying, you sound like KGB.

Regardless of timing, the Vikings had interested this offseason in Williams. Were in active negotiations WAS - one definition of aggressively pursued. Had come to terms with WAS - another definition of aggressively pursued. Interest, negotiations, terms are the facts and they are undisputed.

On paper this draft looks very solid, so many guys we picked up in later rounds had grades that could have seen them go prior to when they did get selected, but that happens every year. If we can get 6 or 7 of these guys to stick around and make contributions to the Vikings, that will be a successful draft, if more than that, great. 15 guys will all have to come in with the UDFA group and try-outs to try to earn a spot. We will have darlings we all get enamored with, but it is up to the players to handle the difference between NCAAFB and the NFL.

Who will the surprises be? Willekes, maybe Hinton, or someone like Brandel, ya just never know, which is why we love it so much. Who says Christmas only comes once a year, love this time of the year and all our shiny new toys!!

I was against the trade for Williams because of the high impact to the salary cap, which we were already struggling with. I'm concerned that the salary cap may go down next year due to the effects of the virus on public events. I was wondering if that's why Spielman loaded up on the extra picks.

After seeing Rhodes struggle last year my reaction was that our team needed to get younger again. So I guess we have a chance to do exactly that.

More than in the past, I am personally not reacting as much to the rookie class. So many of them of course came on day three, but we have been burned by first round wide receivers before. I really don't know how good any of the new players will be. I hope they're going to be great, of course. It's going to be a tough off-season to develop them. I believe that's why there were fewer trades and so limited trading partners for the Vikings to trade up. It was wise to trade two of them for picks next year. We have enough picks this year.

Spielman also said DL coach Andre Patterson was very high on DE DJ Wonnum, and pushed to draft him

James Lynch Highlights are so fun to watch

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xm8iOvwFQzM

Just highlights so only good. No bad and no ugly.

Here's game video so it includes the bad and the ugly.
Against Oklahoma in the big 12 title game.
Fun to watch against Hurts and Lamb

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1cP0O2TPTS4

He had 2 sacks through 3 quarters, one of them a strip, but he has a tendency to over focus on the QB and miss the ball carrier.
This is somewhat excusable as Hurts is always a threat to run himself.
I went back and finished up. He had a couple good stops of the RB behind the line in the 4th.
I think I counted 4 tackles for loss in the game.

The Vikings are going to make adjustments to their defense, this year. Position flexibility may be helpful with dealing with the hurry up offenses, too.

Spielman also said multiple guys they drafted have the ability to play multiple positions, in regard to slot CB

Also I noticed that there were no RB's selected in the draft, or in the UFA's. I really thought they were going to imitate the Niners with the selection of speedy type back. They didn't select a super fast receiver either. So I was surprised.
