PFF #243. DB BRIAN COLE II, MISSISSIPPI STATE
Cole lacks any sort of feel for the defensive side of the ball. He'll likely have to come down to the box full-time to have a chance at success in the NFL with how poorly he handled anything deep.

Chad Graff
@ChadGraff
Brian Cole was a part of the 2016 East Mississippi Community College team that was featured in Netflix's 'Last Chance U.' He went on to Mississippi State but sat out 2017 because of academic issues. He became a team captain in his second year there.

Draft analyst Dane Brugler on Brian Cole "A traits-based prospect with his size length & athleticism but his lack of instincts & coverage talent creates substantial doubt about his NFL future projecting as a defensive project who needs to stand out on special teams to earn..spot"

Miami probably has a navy base. Good for Perry to go there.

This is about the time we draft a guy from St. Cloud State

I remember John Kimbrough coming out of St Cloud State in the mid 70's. Went to Buffalo and played on the same team as OJ.

One downside to having so many draft picks UDFA probably won't want to come here to have to compete with so many others.

I like Hinton as a 2-3 year development guy. Athletic. Needs to add strength/weight and work on technique.

With that the 253rd pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Vikings select Kyle Hinton, OG, Washburn U.

Take that all you OG whiners!

Pauline of Pro Football Network wrote the following about Hinton:

Familiarize yourself with the name Kyle Hinton, a guard from Washburn, who stole the show at the Kansas State pro day. Entering the season, Hinton was graded as a street free agent. But after his pro day workout, there's now talk he will land in day three of the 2020 NFL Draft. Hinton measured a shade over 6-foot-2 and weighed in at 296 pounds. He completed 34 reps on the bench and touched 34.5 inches in the vertical jump. Hinton then scorched a pair of 40-yard dashes, timing 4.86 seconds on his first attempt and as low as 4.70 seconds on his second run. Some teams discounted his second run as they felt Hinton quick-started the attempt, though others are reporting the time. Even adding a tenth of a second brings the mark to a quick 4.80 seconds. The San Francisco 49ers and Las Vegas Raiders had scheduled Hinton for an official 30 visit, but that has since been canceled. Teams are comparing Hinton to 6-time Pro Bowler Brian Waters, who spent 13 years in the NFL.

I think one of the reasons Spielman stocked up on pics was the inability to vet and workout UDFA's like normal.

I'd say Dennison has a solid group of guys to work with and carve out a decent starting five. lets see how it shakes out, there may be someone who comes to camp and surprises, lots of time to sort this out, the cupboard isn't bare.

Looking forward to meeting the new players!

The Vikings already have 12 picks in next year's draft.

Overall I give the Vikes a B+

Got some guys that can contribute right away at WR, CB, Big Nickel, and perhaps T/OG in Ezra.

Intriguing players like Wonnum, Dye, Hinton. And depth at S.

Not enough done in trenches. I wanted a legit DT like Gillimore and a IOL who could compete this year.

Would have liked another WR that could do something different like stretch the field.

Bullets in 2021.

Dennison and Peterson have a lot of work to do.

5 Gophers drafted this year.
Winfield,
Johnson
Martin
Coughlin
Williamson

Has that every happened before?

The Gophers were pretty legit last season!

One more draftee than Wisconsin. Good for recruiting. Ohio State and Michigan had 10. Penn State with 5. Nebraska with 2.

That should drop our grade to a B-/C+. CB, OG, and WR were our biggest needs by far, with DT and DE close behind, followed by OT to eventually replace Reiff. RS addressed 2 of the 3 in the first round, but that should be a given for any GM.

I can't argue this at all. For me, if this was last year, I would give them a D. I do trust Kubiak/Dennison much more than the organization two years ago. Kubiak has a long history of having functional olines with lower draft picks. Maybe I'm foolishly optimistic after last years draft. But the organization has been hinting they are pleased with Samia and Udoh's development. I'm a big fan of Collins.

The counterpoint is they aggressively tried to trade for Williams.

James Lynch 98th percentile production, avg athlete (Rotoworld)

Lynch is firmly a tweener. He's undersized for the interior, but lacks ideal length/burst for the edge. He doesn't have high-ceiling physical tools, but he's powerful enough to add plus run defense and pass-rushing ability at the next level. (PFF)
