8 days until the draft. Part of me thinks that I get too worked up about the draft. It is a decisive day in determining the future of the franchise- the faces and personalities of the team for sometimes years and years. Even after they retire they may still call themselves a Viking and "always a Viking". So it's a big day for us, but an even bigger day for the players. I don't know. I guess I'll continue to be all worked up. 8 more days.

The draft is one of the most fascinating sporting events of the year, imo

I think most of us feel that

no reason to apologize

sometimes the draft feels more interesting than some of the games

and especially drafts when we have a lot of "draft capital" like this year

add to that that there is nothing else on the planet right now for sports entertainment

funny, i keep talking to sports friends about it and they still have no interest...

obviously "to each their own", but I don't get why people DON'T get worked up over it

8 days...

Getting Geeked!

Christmas in April!

If there is a trade up, history suggests he trades up into the tail end of the first round. He says he likes the additional time of control for 1st round picks.

Because it would take so much to trade into the late first from #58, I think the only way he does that this year is with ammo rec'd from trading down beforehand.

I could see that...and makes a lot of sense, especially if there are a dozen or so guys ranked similarly at the time we are supposed to pick at 25...

Also, I could see RS trading back with Cin for the first pick of day 2 and first pick of day 3 even though the value chart says we would get the short end of that deal...he has said he loves to have the first pick of the day.

I would actually applaud that, if he can make it happen

(depending on who is there at 25...if it is a guy that can help immediately, then don't get too damn cute, just take him)

I think that overnight pause give teams the chance to do deeper analysis into what other teams have, and hence my do. Would love those picks.

If we give the Bengals 25 I want their 2nd and 3rd round picks. Not 4th. Not worth it. Maybe we have to throw in 155 with 25 for 33 and 65.

Just looking at the trade value chart, if the Bengals offered us their 2nd and 3rd round picks, which are the first picks those rounds (so it's kind of like a late first and a late second) to even it out we would need to also offer them our 4th and 5th.

So we would have #33 and #65 and they would have #25, #132 and #155. We would have four picks in the first 65, six picks in the first 105 and they would have a second first rounder and an overall extra pick. Of course sometimes a team will overpay, but that would be rare if a quarterback is not involved.

For the Bengals, they would only be moving up 8 spots in the draft, but those first rounders are expensive.

I wouldn't include pick 132. I don't care about the chart. They can take it or leave it.

Cool! I hope we cross paths more.

Speaking of Twitter I just found this courtesy of Mike Renner:

My best estimates on the draft ranges where the best value lies at each position group (aka where I'd want to take one):

QB: Top-3
RB: Round 3
WR: Picks 20-40
TE: Round 4
OT: Picks 5-12
IOL: Round 3

DT: Round 2
Edge: Chase Young
LB: Mid-Day 2
CB: Picks 25-50
S: Picks 25-50

If there is going to be very little off-season time for practice, then there is a premium for veterans and a discount for rookies, especially lower round rookies.

Translation:. It is smart to trade up or trade a draft pick for a veteran.

Re-watching Isaiah Wilson one last time. I think he's Orlando Brown, Jr.--which means rookie starter and a high-upside player who could continue to get better throughtout his career.

If we could get Wilson in the 2nd even with a small trade up I'd be thrilled.

Not sure. Here's another one from Matt Miller on an o-lineman:

I think the player I'm lowest on that will be drafted highest is Ezra Cleveland.

Intrigued by the athlete but do not think he's ready to play in 2020.

Leber prefers Jackson over Jones at OT in the first round. That's what I have been thinking, but not strongly because Jones is more ready to go.

Lot of current Mocks have Jackson going 2nd round.

Didn't you say that the Diggs trade was all about Spielman trying to save his ass? How could that have been true and Spielman possibly trying to make an OBJ trade to save his own ass also be true? Your Marty-like conspiracy theories are swaying all over the place.

i guess what it proves is that spielman has a lot of ass to be saved....

we can't trust what will most likely be a tier-two wr, or even two tier-two wr's...i say make that trade for beckham and if we're not happy with him we trade him for a 2nd and a 5th in 2021 - get our picks back....

plus, we'll have dez bryant to keep him in check....

all top 100 players
wr's...1
cb's...2
ot's...2
safety...1
idl...1

only draft players that can play today - no projects....

and then Tyler johnson in the 4th....

sign griffen at $5m
make the beckham trade
trade harris for a 3rd/4th - maybe giving us another top 100 pick

The search on this website does not seem to work and I don't have time to go through all past posts and threads. What were your thoughts on why Spielman did the Diggs trade?

The problem is that there may only be projects at certain positions starting in Round 2, esp OT, DT, and CB. They still might be the right pick, though.
