Rick Spielman said the Vikings "do have the safeties pretty well set" by franchising Anthony Harris. Is he confident Harris will be on the roster? "I'm not going to get into the business side of it. I know right now, he is franchised."

Xavier McKinney come on down!

Double reverse smokescreen.

True. He probably has to spin a little "Inception' top on his desk after he talks to media, just to double-check reality.

Yeah I can’t remember looking forward to a draft like this EVER as well.

Sheesh, get our minds off for just a few hours is needed.

And Ratings could be Super Bowlesque.... Kidding of course but should be the highest ever by far for a draft.

When we were at 7 and McKinnie was the consensus favorite... we pick him and he walks through a door filling the entire frame. Yippee.

But watching Moss slide and then picking him was the ultimate.

Yeah watching Moss tumble was awesome, we were pretty well set at WR with Carter/Reed, but taking a chance on purely the most talented PLAYER ever as it turned out was a huge high. Was screaming for Warren Sapp before that. 😡
I actually started looking forward to the Vikes taking a falling player every year, Percy Harvin was another temporary bonanza, as was about to be stud Sharrif Floyd before the botched knee surgery.

That’s why I hold out hope beyond our obvious needs I’d love if a guy like Kinlaw dropped to us even though we need WR, CB more.

Hoping Beyond hope that Henry Ruggs falls to us. We need a field stretcher in a perfect world.

3 years before that?

Ahhh yeah, didn’t mean the same year.

I remember jumping up and down thinking Sapp fell right into our lap only to hear “Derrick Alexander”? 😡

I am partially kidding. I like Winfield a lot.

A top 100 board from another local writer. This one ranks them for how likely they could be selected by the Vikings.

I'm just being a bit of a homer, but I have seen several analysts like Winfield the best. McKinney is still the consensus.

I like Winfield for obvious reasons, besides being one of the top S prospects.

Trading up doesn't seem to make sense for the Vikings this year. They need bodies at multiple positions and the draft seems deep in some of those positions. I can see multiple trade downs as a more likely scenario.

Just like BPA vs Need trading up vs trading down is on a case by case basis.

Call it just a hunch then. I'd be very surprised if Spielman traded up in this draft. And equally surprised if he didn't trade down at least twice.

I’d be somewhat surprised too Karl.
But I would not mind moving up into 15-20 range for Kinlaw, Brown, Wirfs or Wills if they drop.
Ok with move for Juedy, Ruggs, Lamb and Henderson, but would rather have move up for Blue Chipper in trenches...
Otherwise, I’d like double move back for more picks in 2nd and 3rd to exploit the depth of this draft.

2 more days...

I would be quite surprised if the Vikings don't trade up. Probably won't happen in the first round is all.

I am hearing that teams are expecting to find receivers who are "capable of being a starter in their rookie season" even in the fifth round. To me, offensive line and cornerback remain the most compelling needs to be filled early. None of us are privy to knowing if there are some pending trades for veteran players or free agents about to be signed, but if a corner and offensive lineman are not selected in the first round I will be disappointed. I understand the concept of "best player available" but the value of a player outside of those two positions would have to be of a significant higher level in my mind to be justified.

I have thought about Jefferson being one of those exceptions. He certainly is a talented receiver and I kind of doubt he will be available anyway, but it seems to me that he is considered to be at his best in the slot. I do believe that our team would be better served with a receiver who is capable of succeeding on the outside, as well. Thielen has that flexibility, but he may be the one of the best, if not the best slot receiver in the NFL. I actually believe that there will be quality options even in the third round- maybe not receivers whom we are contemplating in the first round, but certainly ones that we are speculating for the second round. We will have very interesting conversations Friday before day two of the draft. That is my favorite time as I will hope to see special players who fell out of the first round become Minnesota Vikings.

If any of you subscribe to the Athletica, I believe we would all like to see Arif's draft board- his ranking of the players. I heard him yesterday on Paul Allen's radio program. He offered his prediction for whom the Vikings will select in the first round. That is a crap shoot and whoever selects one or both of those players will be more lucky than good. But player evaluations and rankings are really interesting to me and I respect what Arif has to say.

Speaking of Paul Allen's program, one of my Twitter friends will be on the program this morning in the nine o'clock hour. Allen is getting everyone's predictions before he offers his own. Anyway, this is my Twitter friend's mock draft:

https://thebrawlnetwork.com/articles/carmer-mock-draft-1-0/

Edit:. Tomorrow, not today. My memory was wrong.

Ludford likes Fulton ahead of even Henderson. He is the second person I have read to say that.

As I just mentioned, I like "Big Boards" better than mock drafts. I just found this one and it seems pretty credible.

https://www.pff.com/draft/big-board

I have this opinion that rankings get more accurate at the last moment.

These are PFF's comments on Iowa's A.J. Epenesa:

There hasn't been a true power end prospect like Epenesa in quite some time. He won't have the burst or agility of other top prospects, but he's got an elite physical skill set for the position in his own right.

I have not been touting him because my sense is that he doesn't have the "twitch quickness" of some of the other edge rushers, but when reading this I am thinking of Zimmer and how he wants to be better on first down vs. the rush.

Udoh could be critical to this draft. If he is capable of being a solid backup at Tackle this year and ready to start next year that would take tackle off the board for early draft consideration. Seems ridiculous that a 7th round project from last years draft could do that, but based on one game sample last year against Khalil Mack maybe he could.

Wolfson is high on this prospect at DT for the second round or early third.

https://twitter.com/DWolfsonKSTP/status/1252711086459105281?s=20

Edit: He just corrected me. He believes he will go in the second round- possibly even the early part of the round.

First former JUCO guy off the board will be Javon Kinlaw. Second would likely be Aiyuk.

Arif and Chad (from the Athletic Mock 6.0 only first 3 rounds). They will have one more best case on Thursday.

Top 4 tackles, top 2 CB and Fulton, and the top 3 WRS plus Jefferson, Higgins, Teagor, and Shenault are already off of the board. (kind of a worst case scenario mock with Twitter voting for picks)

(22) 1. Trade down with Browns and get picks 41,74, and 187
(25) 1. Jeff Gladney CB (picked over Mims, Austin Jackson, and DT Ross Blacklock)
(41) 2. Antoine Winfield S (picked over Austin Jackson and Pittman)
(58) 2. Isiah Wilson OT G (picked over DT Nevilee Gallimore and WR Bryan Edwards)
(74) 3. Van Jefferson, WR Florida ( picked over G Roberth Hunt and DT James Lynch)
(89) 3. Robert Hunt G Louisiana-Lafayatte (picked over DT James Lynch and WR Gabriel Davis
(90) 3. James Lynch DT Baylor

I wouldn't mind a trade-up to get CeeDee Lamb.

Outside of that, any combination of offensive lineman and corner with the first two picks I'm good with.

We haven't drafted a good quarterback since Tommy Kramer, so that likely won't happen.

Rick Spielman mentioned something I hadn’t thought about. Due to COVID-19, college coaches had additional time to speak with teams.

This allowed the #Vikings to gather valuable prospect information from them.

To me, his skill set sounds perfect for a 3-4 DE.

I like Elliott. If he's our pick at 58 I would have no problem with it. On the other hand I wouldn't be shocked if we could get him at 89.
