Gladney squats 620 and benches 400.

Did all combine drills with a torn meniscus.

Jon Ledyard:

I’m a big fan of Jefferson’s game, and when he knocked the Combine out of the park I went all in after some early draft process reservations. You gotta know where he wins and he might always be best in the slot, but Jefferson’s ball skills, route-running and smarts are what wins in the middle of the field these days, and he can even make plays vertically as well.

Benjamin Solak of Draft Network was not so flattering:

Justin Jefferson is a Day 2 candidate looking to add a consistent option from the slot. Jefferson is lacking in elite physical traits and must answer key questions about his ability to release off of tight coverage if he’s ever to grow out of his slot deployment. With that said, Jefferson has wicked quick and strong hands outside of his frame to address inaccurate balls over the middle of the field, and a quality separation profile given his fluid lower half, ability to modulate burst, and smart route-running approach. Jefferson is a low-ceiling player at the NFL level that is best suited to WR2/3 duties, but for a team looking to win with the quick game, he can be a high-volume target with added value on late downs or on RPOs. Jefferson’s lack of quality special-teams translation and average blocking profile may push him down the board for some teams, and his lack of versatility outside of the slot in Year 1 caps his early projection and draft stock.”

Plenty of Keenan Allen comparisons.

This analyst at ESPN has Jefferson as the #14 player overall:

Pre-Draft Analysis
Jefferson is a natural hands catcher with excellent length and good body control. He catches the ball in stride and has above-average burst after the catch. He ran better than expected at the combine, and he has the speed to threaten vertically. There's some concern about Jefferson's ability to separate on the outside, but he's an instinctive route runner with the quickness to separate working out of the slot. -- Steve Muench

Post-Draft Analysis
Minnesota traded Stefon Diggs to Buffalo, and Adam Thielen is coming off a season in which he was hampered by a hamstring injury. Tight end Irv Smith Jr., a 2019 second-round pick, flashed last year and should be better this year. But the Vikings needed another difference-making pass-catcher. It will be interesting to see how offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak deploys Thielen and Jefferson, considering they are both at their best working out of the slot. -- Steve Muench

Overall, good first round, we knew we needed WR and CB. I have to believe we have a trade for Williams as no OT taken. I was hoping for Ruiz (sp?) the center/guard taken tonight would have lasted to the second round so we could have had a chance for him. Hope we trade up tomorrow to fill more holes. Have a good night everyone, talk with you tomorrow.

Gladney it is. Good player. Just a little small.

He's not tall. There's a difference.

Good first round.

Holton Hill is 6'2"

I would call 6 and over tall. I call 5-9 and under short. So Gladney is on the short side of average (I'm sure my scientific system works for everybody).

Amik Roberson is a good slot corner – feisty and tough (like Gladney) but he's like 5-8. I'm not sure I'd pair them up together at the same time.

It'd be nice to add another CB with a little size though ... and a S/Nickelback type.

I question the Raiders off the board picks. Never the Chiefs. Big tuna matches talent to scheme better than anyone.

You mean the Walrus? I thought Parcells was the big tuna

This is Steve Muench's comments about Gladney:

Pre-Draft Analysis
Gladney is undersized with good length and good top-end speed. He has above-average short-area man-to-man cover skills. Bigger receivers give him problems at times, but he's tough and he plays bigger than his size. Gladney does a good job of reading the quarterback and playing the ball, not the man, in zone coverage. He has good timing breaking up passes and is opportunistic but is not a natural playmaker. -- Steve Muench

From CBS Sports:

No. 31 overall: The Vikings select CB Jeff Gladney, TCU

I really like Gladney's ball skill. He has first round ability. Minnesota was able to address a few big needs after losing Stefon Diggs at wide receiver and Xavier Rhodes, Trae Waynes, Mackensie Alexander at cornerback. Rick Spielman knocked it out of the park.

Pete Prisco gives the pick a 'B': "It's a need pick, no question about it. I like the player. There are some character concerns, that's something they'll have to address. Mike Zimmer loves to draft corners. This pick makes sense."

Prisco is an idiot. His grades good or bad mean nothing.

Lance Zierlein (NFL.com):

“A quarterback’s best friend, with the contested-catch focus and extreme ball skills to boost completion percentages. Jefferson failed to stand out as an outside target but saw his stock soar with a monster season from the slot. He has decent speed and separation talent, but he needs to improve as a route-runner, as he’s less likely to see the same freedom in space that LSU’s offense helped create for him. He’s slippery in space and able to stab and save throws with quick hands and fluid body adjustments. Teams looking for an inside/outside possession receiver with the size and savvy to make chain-moving catches could push Jefferson up the board.”

Jefferson was ridiculously productive this year and he has good size, hands and speed. I think we are going to give him the slot and move Thielen outside. Was Jefferson just a product of the system or is he truly great. We're going to find out.

We didn't quite get the trade chart value with our trade down, but I don't believe they were coveting the players taken in between 25 and 31.

I believe that none of us would have bat an eye if we had traded up a couple of spots for Jefferson from #22 or had taken Gladney at #25. So instead of giving up draft pick capital we gained some.

yep no guts no glory. We saw the board and made the trade down for under chart value, but it seems to worked out excellently.

Yup – made the trade based on players available which is more important than the chart value.

Sources close to #Packers QB Aaron Rodgers say he is "beside himself" about the team's decision to draft a QB in the 1st round. "Aaron feels betrayed, he was told by management they would get him some weapons to throw to."

Trouble brewing in Packerland.

Gladney squats 620 and benches 400.

Did all combine drills with a torn meniscus.

So he's recovering from a torn miniscus and we picked him in the first round anyway?

Zimmer said Gary Kubiak “really, really liked” Justin Jefferson. Said the team tried to move up for him before he fell to the #Vikings

This is from Sean Borman on Twitter, but I also heard Zimmer say this on the radio.

Gladney’s knee is doing great after meniscus surgery in March. #Vikings had multiple talks with him, have the book on him.

The #Vikings spent a lot of time digging on TCU Jeff Gladney, who was known in that program as one of the most competitive guys around. Loves football. The type of player they needed with several veterans gone.

I believe Jefferson benefited a lot from a Heisman QB who made things happen with his quick feet. Still, Jefferson had a great year. We do like players who play well in the games, not just the combine.

Looking at this list I think it's possible that Winfield could last to 58 because not one safety was drafted in round one. If it isn't Winfield we still should be able to get somebody very good. The Safeties are McKinney, Winfield, Delpit, Chinn, and Duggar. Safety is not considered a premium position. One should be there for us.

That was the JJ chart right? I haven't been able to find the new one....

With the niners without of a 3rd rounder - I'm still very happy with the trade. I think we got our guy at 31.
