I was trying to find our old Thread in remembrance of Prince and couldn't. Is it still available somehow?

Gosh I sure hope so.

I'm happy SF took down one of the hated ones but I'd be very surprised if they could do it sgain. Games probably not close.

So we'll have to hope for yet another NFCCG loss for the puke.

The question is; what kind of play did you think you'd have from the 25 that was so much better than potentially 2 shots from the 40?

They aren't a dime a dozen...Mckinnon look like the RB SF overpaid him to be last night.

For sure. I wanted DAL to lose so badly … if I had snuck in there wearing my fuzzy chaps, its the play I would have called to ensure their loss.

I hate to write Kellen Moore off on one knuckleheaded playcall but … one last play to save the season? the only consideration is to get the ball away (not take a sack) and ltowards the end zone (if Cousins is your QB).

It also made me pine for McCarthy as GB HC.

I can't name the last big name high paid running back to win a Super Bowl? It isn't a position to give two shits about IMO.

You pay QB, OL, WR, DL, and CB. The rest you fill in as best you can.

Is 2020-21 Fournette (plus they spent a 2nd on Ronald Jones and a 3rd on Vaughn recently) vs 1st round pick CEH

2019-20 Sony Michel 1st Round Pick vs Todd Gurley 17 TDs for the season

4 first round picks; not sure if I agree.

I believe Fournette was a pretty cheap pickup for the Bucs.
Which is kind of the point... RB seems like one of the easier spots to get "good enough" production without paying a premium.

Similar this year to the Chiefs with McKinnon... they got him on the cheap and it looks like he could be a great bargain.

I LOVE Dalvin Cook... he just makes amazing plays when it looks like nothing is there.
But... he tends to be hurt down the stretch... is he worth the dollars?
I'd probably invest elsewhere... ymmv.

The Packers have one of the worst rush defenses in the league. I think they are very concerned about playing San Francisco. One thing the Packers have going for them is that Niners took some injuries last night.

Running backs are a dime a dozen. The last guy to lead the league in rushing and win a Super Bowl was Terrell Davis (1998 season). The last guy to play in a Super Bowl while leading the league in rushing was Shaun Alexander (2005 season).

If they are good that’s great but I wouldn’t pay.

Elliot was worthless before the ink was dry.

Furnette isn’t getting paid all that much by Bucs and it isn’t some long term deal.

Take a look at Tennessee. They are 12-5 this season and the #1 seed without Henry this season. Anybody think they should be going right back to the offense they ran when Henry was there if he plays in the playoffs? I don't. They became more diverse because everyone was involved.

Its true that there are a lot of RBs out there that are decent to good. Its also true you don't need an elite RB to have an effective run game.

But its a myth that you can plug in anybody on a playoff run.

The issue is when you are determined to make an elite RB the cornerstone of your offense. And pay them accordingly. And then marry them to your game planning week in and week out.

The Titans will disagree but there are diminishing returns at some point ... Mattison, a better OL than Udoh, a cheap vet RB to compete with Nwangwu and Rose for #2 or #3, and resigning Conklin vs Cook?

Look at how long it took them to overcome Henry...he will be back for the playoffs.....how many TDs, Yards, etc. did he account for? 8 games 900 yards 10 TDs..

Don't agree. You can choose to not pay a ton for them but they are very important. Brad can keep saying not to spend a high pick on one but the four teams in the last 2 SB did exactly that.

Not easy to find the Eli Mitchell's in the 6th round so I won't agree with Brad's bit. His own favorite team TB invested a ton of resources and a 2nd and 3rd on RB the last couple years....

Top General Manager Candidates
It was somewhat surprising to see the Wilfs fire Rick Spielman as well as Mike Zimmer, so I hadn’t put together a list of some of the top candidates for GM openings this off-season. A list of some top heading coaching candidates is here. Here is a list compiled by Jonathan Jones at cbssports.com. Italics afterward are my [wludford] comments on each candidate. Below are the top candidates from that rather extensive list.

Joe Hortiz, Ravens director of player personnel: He’s been a top lieutenant for Ozzie Newsome and Eric DeCosta for years, and he’s been in this role for seven seasons. Hortiz is very well respected in the college scouting community. If you’re looking to pilfer a GM from the ranks of another organization, none better to pilfer from than the Ravens. They’ve been the best drafting team since Hortiz has been there, and pretty sharp in free agency too. Not sure how much credit Hortiz merits in all that, but he’s certainly learned and worked with a couple great GMs in Ozzie Newsome and Eric DeCosta.

Ed Dodds, Colts assistant GM: Dodds was highly coveted last offseason but had the privilege of waiting for the right job. If the right one opens up this offseason, I’d expect him to be a top candidate. Dodds has earned a strong reputation around the league, but like George Paton did, is waiting for the right opportunity. The Vikings’ GM job could be just that.

Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, Browns VP of football operations: He was a hot name last cycle and could very well land a job this time around. Adofo-Mensah has a Wall Street background and excels at the numbers part of this business. Assuming the Vikings retain Rob Brzezinski, they don’t need someone of Adofo-Mensah’s background. They need a guy who’s good at evaluating talent.

Joe Schoen, Bills assistant GM: Among all the names on this list, no one’s name was mentioned more than Schoen’s. Considering the diverse amount of voices and backgrounds cultivated to make this list, that speaks loudly. The right hand of Brandon Beane in Buffalo, Schoen is going to be a GM either this year or next. A leading contender, but is he the best candidate? Maybe.

Dave Ziegler, Patriots director of player personnel: He took on the role of de facto GM with the team after Nick Caserio left for Houston. He totally changed the Pats draft process in 2021 and helped Belichick spend big in free agency. Probably on the rise as a GM candidate as a result, but is that enough of a track record?

https://www.dailynorseman.com/2022/1/10/22876405/wilfs-make-a-clean-sweep-but-who-will-be-the-new-gm-and-head-coach

Looking at the complete lack of quality in the available GMs and HCs we probably should have just stuck with Zim and Rick.

I'd be fine if the new regime felt draft stock for RB's is 4th round or less.

Some of best RB's ever are without rings. I think a lot of guys could have been Emmitt Smith.

Collect fresh legs every year should be the goal. Spend on OL.

Looking at the complete lack of quality in the available GMs and HCs we probably should have just stuck with Zim and Rick.

I assume you are just trying to provoke a response with the 'stick with' comment. The former regime had grown so very stale over multiple seasons.

Every HC and GM candidate will have question marks but providing an upgrade to what we just got rid of won't be one of them.
