My God, apparently Billy G was locked in on the Panther's broadcast this weekend and didn't pay attention to Kevin Weeks when he said that Fluery had to be talked out of retirement to join the Hawks because he was tired of moving his family. Guy is done and we may have to burn a first rounder. Unreal.

If he's part of the reason we make it to the WCF, is it still burning a 1st rounder?

He wouldn't be the reason if we made it that far. Don't let his past "success" fool you.

Russo says we may have 3 2nds this coming year. One is compensation for not signing the first round pick in 2018.

I think he has to do it as Talbot and Kappo just weren't getting it done.

the whole team wasn't getting it done. Talbot has been good again recently.

Fleury WAS one of the greatest playoff goalies ever.

Exactly! And, I'm not sure I even agree with that. I've posted my thoughts on him over the years. First ballot HOF'er that gets chased every time we play him. Was in Pittsburgh, winning trophies, on one of the best dynasties of all time. Was it him???????????

You're missing the context.

The only way he costs us a 1st round pick is if we make the WCF and he has 4 wins on the way there.

And, last thought for now. Don't let the writer's/pundits sway you. He's a Canadian treasure for sure. Is Crosby the greatest player of all time? In their eyes, he is. In mine

I actually didn't but didn't articulate well. It's not the compensation that I'm worried about, per say. It's that we don't need him. He and Talbot are the same guy at this point. If we go deep in the playoffs it's not because we added him. It's because the team is playing well despite him. Waste of a trade. Hope I'm wrong and you all laugh your asses off at me. Would love nothing more.

Kappo also traded. There is more to this than surface value. That kid shoulda been our guy for 10+ years barring injury.

I thought Wallstedt was supposed to be our guy for 10+ years?

Not sure what to think about the Fleury deal. Clearly we're just renting him for the second half of this season (so he probably won't bother to move his family), but does he really help? As others have pointed out - we've beat him up pretty badly for a while now, but I'm quietly trusting Billy G. to know what he's doing.

Kappo has done it at the highest level. The kid is a hope at this point. Much like Boldy versus Rossi.

This (I believe) tells me that both of our goalies have seriously let down our defense:

- Wild are currently 2nd in expected goals against - which is based off shot quantity and quality given up (behind Boston)
- Wild are currently 15th in actual GAA (so dead in the middle)

If we do make it to the WC Finals, I hope it's because Cam got on a hot streak and Fluery only has 3 wins.
I think Billy G is thinking this year will be the year to make a run until after the buyout payments are done in a few years.
We have KK and Fiala now, and most likely will be the last year of that, so make a run for it now while we have a little cap to work with.

NHL guys think it’ll be Fleury’s team Cam taking a few games down the stretch for rest. Could get interesting.

That seems about right. The Wild's biggest winning streaks have been due to big offense. Talbot has never really been in a real groove at any time. There an awful lot of wins that featured the Wild winning despite Talbot letting in a lot of bad goals.

Seems about right. Not a fan of spending a second (possibly first) round pick to rent Fleury, but like Dubnyk, Talbot is not the guy.

Cam is not the guy, but I bet with Fluery there he will pick up his game.
So far he is looking pretty good tonight.

Yep. Pitching a shutout so far. I’m sure he’s super motivated.

Of course. Talbot gets the shutout. That’s got to feel pretty good for him.

Nice win. Other than the start of the second period, the Wild controlled the game. Talbot, surprise surprise, played his best game of the year. Nic Deslauriers made a great first impression with a goal and about half a dozen bone jarring hits.

Talbot gets the shutout and played one of his better games and some time.
Deslauriers gets the first goal and some crushing hits to start his run as a Wild.
A tough 2nd period with lots of miss handled pucks and turnovers, but overall a fun game.
