Guess when the Twins made their first moves of the offseason last year?
12/16/22 Minnesota Twins signed free agent C Christian Vázquez.
12/20/22 Minnesota Twins signed free agent LF Joey Gallo.

What's your point nimrod? Both of those moves sucked A$$.

I'm split on Mauer. He was talented enough to be in the HOF, but his production was greatly limited by injury. He was a great catcher, a great contact hitter. He had disappointing power for his size, except for 1 year. He never lived up to the contract after that 1 great year. I always rooted for him but was usually disappointed when it mattered most.

It's really no skin off my nose if he makes it or not, but I don't think he's a lock at all. I wish he had stayed healthy enough to fulfill his potential, and then he would've been a lock.

I don't think Mauer belongs and if I'm going to be completely honest, Tony and Kirby probably don't belong for the same reason. After brilliant starts, all three had their careers ruined and shortened by injury or medical issues. When you look at their career totals compared to others in the hall, I think they come up short. I say this even though Tony is my all time favorite Twin.

I don't think longevity should be weighted as much as it is by most people. You can be an above average player who played a really long time and have great totals, but were you ever really great?

I look 1st for was this player one of the best at his position during his era and was it more than a flash in the pan. I'll take the best for a 5 year span over above average for 15-20. Those guys were great. I guess with this logic Joe belongs, but I'm still disappointed in him.

It's all very subjective and everyone can have a different opinion which is why it becomes the talking point that it is. It don't give a rip either way, there are far more important things to worry about.

I wouldn't take either of those types. The Hall should be for guys who were great for a long period of time. Not great for 5 years or very good for 15.

If you win championships, MVPs, and batting championships yes it should count but you will need it to be similar to Puckett which Mauer never got there.

It is a long off season, but you should be aware that the top players tend to sign early. If you wait until the end you get has been's and never was's. Which has usually been the Twins Way. But that doesn't mean we can't complain about it.

FYI, calling you nimrod, was me being nice for the holidays. You deserve much worse for all the BS you've posted here over the years. Merry Christmas!

Here is the thing. Falvine's preferred method of making a big move is to make trades. Despite my frequent criticism of them, this is a pretty solid strategy. When you compete for free agents, you are usually paying for someone's past accomplishments. You also compete for limited options and may not get what you really want because there are limited choices.

Trades give you a bigger pool of player options. You have a better chance of landing a player you really want, during their best years and have them for a few years. It means giving up prospects, but as Ed says, how many shiny coins tarnish in the big leagues?

What tries our patience is that trades typically happen late in the off-season. It may be even more complicated this year due to the Twins one stated off-season objective to cut payroll. The Twins will only make these trades if they include the likes of Vasquez, Polanco and Kepler or if they can send two of those three out in separate deals.

Anyone thinking we were in on Yamamoto, Ohtani, or Glasnow? The first two delayed the early part of the Hot Stove.

Guys I think we could be in on pitching:

1) Seattle RH pitcher (Kirby, Woo, Miller, Hancock) with a Polanco trade 2) Frankie Montas 3) Luzardo 4) Burnes 5) Imanaga (lefty with just as good of stuff as Yamamoto) 6) Reds young pitching

I think 1 and 2 are the most likely...

Kiermaier signs 1-year deal for $10.5 million with the Jays. We couldn't beat that?

Taylor was better at 1year for 4million

This is why Buehrle is a Hall of Famer

I agree Buehrle should be a HOFer.

Hall of Pretty Good. Nothing more. This case boils down to...his arm held up and he fielded his position well.

The log jam is broken. The Twins signed reliever Josh Staumont to a 1 year deal. I'm sure they got him nice and cheap, since he is coming off thoracic outlet surgery.

Sounds like TO surgery is harder to come back from then TJ surgery.....Twins Daily thinks he is worth the gamble.

Staumont checks all of the Twins boxes.

He's cheap

He used to be good

He's coming off an injury

He's dominated the Twins
