I was elated to see the signing of a center...and he's a really good one...

but then I saw the injury stuff and thought, "Dammit Kwesi...can't ever go after a player without injury history...?"

I'm OK with the Jones and Murphy re-signings, though I was hoping for DJ Reed...

mekhi becton is there, but he hates our new assistant o-line coach...why would we select a guy with so many enemies at a position of need?....

i'm okay with scherff for a season or two, or zeitler...risner had a high pass blocking grade on pff....

i was hoping we'd let murphy walk, but it flores likes him, then wtf...i bet we sign shaquill griffen....

i'd feel much better about our situation if we had a 2nd round pick this year - go d-line and guard - let someone else do the picking....

With the signing of Rodgers at CB; Murphy can still play slot. Rodgers may be a better corner at less than half the price. With McGlovern and Blackmon back not sure about signing Shaq.

I can't believe they gave Murphy $22M a year. What a terrible contract.

No idea what it actually is (with that void year 4.2 million dollar amount)....same as Aaron Jones (3.2 million void year) even though it was announced at 22.

At that price I would have signed Asante Samuel.....

1. those players have to be available.
2. those players usually cost a bit more.
3. those player rarely make it to free agency
4. by this point in their careers, most players have an injury history. it is a violent sport.

I am ecstatic with the Kelly signing.

Looks like a pretty good first 24 hours, mainly by filling starting roles at C, CB, CB (assuming Rodgers starts), DT, RB.

On the surface most of the signings look like overpays, but the details of the contracts will clear that up. And high costs are the nature of early free agency. Either pay or sit on your hands.

Not a group of world beaters at this stage. Kelly, Allen, and Jones are past their primes. Murphy, who I don't think is that good, is in his prime. Rodgers is intriguing as he did well as a backup/spot starter in Philly.

Several guards are still out out there!

Starter-wise, looks like G and DE are the only areas where a UFA can step in, and that's assuming Blackmon and Rodgers are projected to start.

There are a slew of backup spots open, and a couple of them may warrant getting someone who is more than a backup:

- Read KOC would like more of a RB by committee approach so there might be extra emphasis there.

- If Metellus continues to be a gadget defender, a quality safety could be a target.

- Backup QB. A chance to get that position right.

I'm real happy with the Ryan Kelly signing. That's one down and two to go.

I think 90% of all new NFL contracts look like overpays.

Sounds like we've signed Fries now too.

Been a pretty good couple days for the Vikes.

Now, I'd still like a competent backup for JJ McCarthy, and another DB.

But I can't complain. Vikings have aggressively addressed their needs.

Yeap, I was rolling me eyes at them yesterday as the interior guys were being picked off. Board was broke but I managed a "same ole...same ole" post to get through. Glad I was wrong. Happy with the C/G combo and hope they can pull off a trifecta of G/C/G but I'm just happy with what they've done so far.

Sounds like Jones just jumped to the Colts...

I really hope that doesnt leave a door open for Rodgers...

hearing he is likely to go to Pittsburgh, but there were still rumors out there that Minnesota was kicking the tires on him

It'll be interesting to see how they approach the draft now.

My gut reaction is we'll try to take back, take either a CB or S with the first pick a RB with the next pick and then continue to bolster both sides of the line.

ugh, me too, but getting Fries is huge...

And the Allen/Hargrave combo for interior DL is amazing i think

letting Pat Jones walk in favor of Turner sounds like a fair move to not over pay

Like what we have done so far

Kelly...check
Fries...check

Two down. One to go. Finish the job.

I agree that CB and RB are going to be top picks...I really think they want Jeanty, but no way will he still be there...I wouldn't be surprised if we go after one of the other top tier RB's in the first...

heard Pat Kirwin and Jim Miller discussing this. Getting a first rd RB on a 5 yr contract, and possibility of a cheap franchise tag or 2 could maximize a great RB...use him up, so to speak and let him walk as he ages past prime

I wouldn't be surprised to snag Hampton if he is still there (though sounding like he might not either)

But a trade back for a couple day 2 picks could really help us with the meat of this draft coming in the 2nd and 3rd rounds

Yesterday was so frustrating. I couldn't check the site because it seemed to be down and the bears completely rebuilt their oline. Then, we started to make some moves which look really good on paper. I'm feeling much better today!

I just hope Jeanty gets drafted by a team in another division, preferably the other conference. He looks pretty special.

Couldn’t be happier or more optimistic …

for an eeyore sitting in that 72 hour twilight moonbeam period between handshake agreement and ink drying on paper.

I love the fact Kwesi is going to sign someone coming off a gambling suspension, the devastating leg injuries and ruptured pectoral histories are so boring at this point. Kwesi showing real growth as a GM.

It feels like I’ve been wandering through a iol desert wasteland living on dried beetles and cactus water, and then somebody throws a cheeseburger at my head.

I hate to say it (but its my nature), if Kwesi doesn’t start coming through in the draft and building depth behind his free agent efforts … we may not sustain the kind of success that good solid FA signings promise.

I really think they need to give the reins to McCarthy now. But we will need a competent backup QB just in case JJ falters/gets hurt.

Gardner Minchew? Someone else?
